Report edy February 6, 2021 4:00 PM GMT
Science simply doesn't always deal in certainties, especially so in developing situations. Doesn't mean they are guesses. Very far from it.
Report Foinavon February 6, 2021 4:02 PM GMT
That's right edy. Any study has a level of confidence, to reach the highest level you lots of data and lots of time to collect and analyse it. We don't appear to have that luxury. Does that mean we should ignore any trends which are detected and how risky would that be?

Report edy February 6, 2021 4:06 PM GMT
Every measure ment you make generally has a sort of error area. Like you digital scale will have an error area of 0.1g or whatever. That alone already eliminates any certainty.

When I was in school, my physics teacher taught us one thing: Physics isn't about proving things. You don't prove things in physics. You just disprove them, or look how well your theory compares to whatever you measure. You don't ultimately and with absolute certainty prove your theory right.

Over 400,000 people gone to hospital with Covid since this started. Even with all the measures to keep numbers of cases down.
There are many who died without going to hospital.

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/healthcare

So UK going to get close to 500,000 hospital admissions and 150,000 Covid deaths.

No wonder that medical professor thought those who don’t follow the rules have blood on their hands.

Still there is good news, the lockdown has massively reduced cases down by about two-thirds since end of December. Vaccine program is going well. Government may just about meet their 15 million target by mid Feb.
Hopefully this means economy can start opening before Easter.

those who implement the rules also have blood on their hands, suicide rates have increase, domestic abuse has increased, millions of missed cancer screenings etc.

if people are contracting the virus and dying, they are most likely very elderly, question is why are THEY not following the rules ? if they are wearing a mask at all times when out then they should be OK, or do masks not work ? Confused

the damage lockdown has done to peoples mental health as well, constant worry, anxiousness, stress and financial concerns especially for people such as business owners or students worried about their futures, all to extend the lives of mostly old people who have had their lives but the young now have a generation or so to pay back the cost of the last year via increased taxes.

are covid death numbers even legit? why is Britain's death rate so high? is it because so many were misreported, i.e. death certificate mentioning covid as they had tested positive before death rather than it being the actual fundamental cause.

If you can rearrange your series of words into a question I will attempt to answer.

I think the idea is accusing airline companies of breaking the rules?

I personally don’t understand what UK gained by opening up foreign holidays without any testing or isolation period. When quarantine was bought in it wasn’t really enforced, people were getting one phone call on a mobile in their 14 days at home. Now government are going from almost no control to near maximum control with hotel quarantine.
I really don’t think the government had a plan from July onwards. Boris might have well have stood on an Aircraft carrier with a banner saying “Mission accomplished “

People are breaking the rules partly because they know they are not being properly enforced. How many occasions was there a story along the lines of ... police broke up illegal gathering of 150 people. 6 people received a fine.
Report Shrewd_dude February 6, 2021 8:17 PM GMT

Report edy February 6, 2021 8:23 PM GMT
Again, I wouldn't refuse treatment, Shrewd_dude.

I merely wondered if eyeball would be ok with not getting treatment if he thinks people should take responsibility for their actions. He does seem to be of the opinion that overweight people are more or less merely reaping what they sowed themselves. Similarly, someone not vaccinated would merely reap what he sowed. It is a lifestyle choice to not get vaccinated.

South Africa has put its roll-out of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on hold after a study showed "disappointing" results against its new Covid variant. Shocked

He said that the study had not been able to investigate the vaccine's efficacy in preventing more serious infections, as participants had an average age of 31 and so did not represent the demographic most at risk of severe symptoms from the virus.

Some geezer does a study study, involving around 2,000 people, found the vaccine offered "minimal protection" against mild and moderate cases of Covid-19.
