I'd presume is tied in with the US to have a recession in 2020 shortening massively as a result of the corona virus.

^
If the recession is clearly due to coronavirus then the recession will be irrelevant to the election though. Trump voters will hardly blame him.

Trump said virus figures would be zero shortly and it was ok to go to work if you had the virus but felt reasonably ok...

Yeah, disagree with tobes completely. Trump's whole election strategy is that the economy is booming. If they're in a recession he's going to battle with a water pistol.

Will the Church of Trump really ignore the simple, basic fact that the Democrats and the deep state created the virus for the lone reason of making Trump look bad?

I've always felt that if voters havent deserted Trump by now, are they really going to now?

If there was a line, it was crossed a long time ago. And also as POTUS, Trump can always just throw a few crumbs to some swing voters

We saw how the 2016 playbook played out and it was very effective at depressing turnout enough. It will work the same because the media didnt learn their lesson and the Dems didnt learn their lesson

There is only so many Biden gaffes you can dismiss before voters actually believe that Trump is actually the more lucid of the two

biden has the black vote which was very much underwhelmed by hilarys campaign.

he needs to capture latino vote that is going to sanders, if he gets all that lined up
i dont think trump voters will be enough to defeat even biden.

Exactly. The belief of 'Its the economy, stupid' is still firmly held by a lot of pundits and forecasters.

That sort of thinking needs to be left in the 1990s IMO. The 2008 crash shattered the illusion that governments are 'managing' the economy and must be given the credit/blame for however it goes.

This academic article explains why Trump is likely to lose regardless of the state of the economy. A recession would just be the final nail in the coffin.

Demographics favoured Hilary last time. You have to consider the candidate.

Biden is a far worse candidate even than Hilary.

At least in 2016 there was a fair amount of enthusiasm from some prominent Democrats for their candidate. Look at what they are saying about Biden. Not just a lack of enthusiasm, but absolute loathing and contempt for him.

Perhaps, but not as bad as the loathing and contempt they have for Trump.

I could not disagree more. Biden is a far more popular candidate than Hillary amongst voters. This year's primaries prove that. Bernie benefited from an anti Hillary vote in 2016 and the reason he is not doing so well this year is that voters are getting behind Biden in a way they didn't with Hillary.

Biden's main issue is the concern about his cognitive decline. If he can get to November without any further obvious decline he would be a strong favourite to win in my view.

Trump doesn't need the votes of people like Jimmy Dore. But those kind of people have platforms very influential with younger Democrat inclined people, and relentless trashing of Biden is going to have some effect IMO.

The EU should ban travelers from the heavily undertested USA and UK and Ireland because they can still travel freely there and bring the virus back.
