Personally I would have either David Milliband (should have got it before his brotherr) or Yvette Cooper  ... I think Milliband has the gravitas to take it to Johnson with strong skills as an orator and a keen mind and small left of centre political views
Yvette Cooper would appeal to many as intelligent with a personable demeanour   ... lets face it in today's politics its perception and what you see and how you come across within the media
However there will be a fight within Labour because Momentum will want  a hard left candidate ... lets hope reality wins out if Labour are to regain power again anytime soon

Fair point. The only real damage Thornberry could cause would be taking preference votes from Starmer that would allow say RLB and Nandy to sneak into the first two places. Highly unlikely but Starmers price did drift a little when she made the cut off.

why  does it have to be a woman .  if the  best    candidate to be  m p s were all  woman then     they  should  all  get in as  representatives  but if none  are  any good then    it should  all be men , nobody should    be pushed forward   just coz they are female or male for that  matter.  as for  rlb  being  prime minister pleeeeeeaasee give me a  break  . if  labour   are ever to come close to  governing the uk    it wont be under her or anyone with similar politics.

We have reached hurdle two for the candidates for Leader and Deputy Leader to get on the ballot paper. Each candidate requires support from 3 affiliates (two of which must be unions) or 33 Constituency Labour Parties.
There is a very dark horse in the Deputy Leader candidates in the shape of Ian Murray. Strictly he should finish closer to last than first but every time I hear him speak, it's good solid common sense. Corbynite he is not and that's why he may have an outside squeak as the other left wing candidates carve up the vote. He is also the only Scottish Labour MP left standing and that alone might get him enough support to get on the ballot but it will be tough. I could see him creating a very good impression at hustings, he has an incredible record in not only defending a top SNP target seat but making it safe. He is a 20/1 shot but he is worth a couple of pounds.

If RLB takes the helm it means more of the same "chicken" Corbyn political spiel and result with a sex-change from a younger person; RLB cannot relate to the genuine Labour supporters. Labour could heading towards extinction when she resigns after suffering another thumping defeat in a General Election.

The Tories are hoping she wins!

I'm already very rattled. The Labour movement seems all over the place. As a body labour seems not know if its coming or going

But only 7,000 of momentums 40,000 members voted for JLB.

33k out of 40k momentum members did not vote for JLB.

I still have hopes for a Starmer landslide. But I'm not thrilled at how Labour is looking. Labour; what are you playing at?????? Grow the fk up unite and rally round Starmer socialism and get the next election won. If I'm feeling like this in 4 years time and its a Corbynite JLB labour party I won't be knocking on doors.

0000000000000000000 Starmer 1.43. The market is more confident than me.

I have to say Novara Media; the massive lefty hub; is tip toeing around this election. But between the lines I feel they want Starmer but are hiding it because they want all the runners and riders in their studio.

That's a bit harsh giggs.
I had voted Labour all my adult life ( 1974 was my first GE given the voting age was then 21 ) but I decided in 2000 (well before Iraq) that I wasn't going to vote for them again until they got rid of Blair. So I don't think you you could call me a Blairite, and indeed I agreed with most of the policies that Labour came up with under Corbyn ( until they went mad and started promising the earth and all the kingdoms thereof before the election). However I think you have to face the fact that Corbyn, for whatever reason, did not appeal to enough voters to be a credible PM. I'm not sold on Starmer and not totally on Nandy, but I don't think either of them can drag the Party back to Blair's Thatcher-lite policies, even if they wanted to. Times have changed.
