Various rumours @BorisJohnson will call an election next Thursday for Oct 14. Makes sense. He can ride on the macho and resolve of No Deal, and steal Brexit Party votes, before having to go through the disaster of No Deal

could all this just be part of the 'cummings master plan'? get everyone running around like blue@rsed flies, meanwhile he's got some other plan going on?

someone tweeted the line 'boris johnson's puppy arrives at downing street' above a picture of matt hancock getting out of his car at number ten Laugh
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 5:13 PM BST
Labour should never ever fall for this in a million years. Legislate an extension, get extension, call GE, that is what they should do, don't play to what Cummings wants.

Next move for Boris should be to rule out no deal.

Cue a frothing swarm of outraged remainers seething about the affront to democracy
Report Angoose September 2, 2019 7:37 PM BST
“Boris Johnson knows that if no-deal Brexit stands on its own as a proposition, it might well fail. But if he mixes up the Brexit question with the Corbyn question in a general election, he could succeed, despite a majority being against a no-deal Brexit, because some may fear a Corbyn premiership more.”
Report Angoose September 2, 2019 7:38 PM BST
“In backing away from the idea of himself as a ‘caretaker prime minister’, Jeremy Corbyn has behaved responsibly and if he continues to put country first he will benefit the country and himself,” said Mr Blair.

“He can now play a decisive role in how Brexit develops.

“But he should see an election before Brexit is decided for the elephant trap it is.

“After Brexit is resolved, an immediate election is right and necessary. And if Labour approaches the resolution of Brexit with the spirit of strategic cooperation it has shown recently, it will emerge with its standing and that of its leadership greatly enhanced.

“If the government tries to force an election now, Labour should vote against it.”
Report mafeking September 2, 2019 8:33 PM BST
give over. if there was a chance for him to be PM even for 5 minutes he wouldn't be able to get to downing street quick enough
Report Lee Ho Fooks September 2, 2019 8:56 PM BST
Given that Boris can't call an election surely all that labour (who have been calling for the people to decide) have to do is say to him that as the EU have agreed to give us 30 days to sort the backstop issue out (that Boris has said that he can do) there's no point in having an election at such a delicate stage of negotiations.
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 9:04 PM BST
1.4 general election in October 2019 seems absolutely dreadful, general consensus is Labour will not fall for this obvious trap, as long as they don't there will not be a general election (in October).
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:09 PM BST
Boris doesn't want another election, not yet
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- September 2, 2019 9:12 PM BST

Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:20 PM BST
no, labour libdems have to do something, and if they don't get an election before oct that means they have one less option of stopping us leaving in oct
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 9:20 PM BST
Lol, clueless, Labour and Lib Dems will not vote for a GE in October 2019, Boris is the one who wants it.
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:20 PM BST
but the problem they have is the tories are not going to call an election before then
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:22 PM BST
poor n888, still confused, let me make it plain and simple
the tories will not call an election before oct 31
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:23 PM BST
they might call an election before then, to be held after oct
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 9:24 PM BST
Then why is every media source saying if Boris loses tomorrow he will call a general election for October 14th, all received the wrong brief did they?
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:25 PM BST
he wont
Report Lee Ho Fooks September 2, 2019 9:26 PM BST
He can call an election, doesn't mean he'll get one though
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 9:27 PM BST
Good then so you agree we can call the GE after we get the extension after October 31st.
Report n88uk September 2, 2019 9:27 PM BST
And that a general election in October being 1.4 is madness.
Report lfc1971 September 2, 2019 9:29 PM BST

Why is Bozo going to call it for the 14th October when the end date is the 31st?

Shouldn't he be calling it for the 1st November?
Report Angoose September 2, 2019 11:15 PM BST
So he can frame it as a Brexit election and avoid losing votes to the Brexit party.
If it is after October but we haven't left, the Brexit party will hammer him.
Report SontaranStratagem September 2, 2019 11:30 PM BST
Ah I see yes makes sense cheers Angoose

So its just another brexit vote regardless anyway

Its gotten pretty tiring, and the fact they've strung this out for 3 and half years already is quite ridiculous, they soon get elections moving though Confused

Johnson wins we get another 2 years of him trying to "get a deal done", no majority and this carries on well into next year whereby we end up with another PM

Not strictly true, they are against a General Election prior to no deal having been fully blocked and an extension to Article 50 secured with absolutely no methods by which the government can reverse the impact of the bill that is currently being introduced.
