Has been quite successful in the past, for a few of us, so id thought i'd get this years one rolling.

Keeping quite a open mind on the Big events and the only thing id say at present is that im opposing Hurricane Fly if its Good ground and Rock On Ruby on soft, i think Our Conor will win the Triumph and Cue Card will be unplaced in the Ryanair.

Id be interested if Elliots Romanesco contested the Kim Muir, esp if Codd is on board, he was hosing up at the October meeting when slightly missing the last and has run well over in Ireland since handling the big field when second to Colbert station, he's 20-1 at present but id be inclined to wait as he's multiple entries.

One i have backed at 33-1 is Hisaabaat in the County Hurdle(only entry) who's races this season at 1st glance seem disappointing , however these were small field crawls and if you look at last springs form you can see his record in big fields, his mark of 142 compares very favourably to all those around him in last years triumph, namely Countrywise Flame, Dodging Bullets and Grumeti, all rated in the 150s

This late rain followed by icy weather is driving a coach and horses through my own plans. Prepare for sticky ground and strange results. They may well get little of mine being risked next week. My interest in the time of the first race rises.

Report Eeternaloptimist March 8, 2013 8:41 PM GMT
If it is genuinely soft most of the so called leading players will need a ski lift to get to the top of the final hill so he could go very close the softer it gets.

Zarkandar (Ch.hurdle) won't have the pace to get up the hill intihs field

Silviano De Conti (Gold Cup) only won on flat tracks, worth laying here

Any of you lot going?  Zilzal my old chum ???

I'll probably go on Tues and Weds as normal, but for the first time in years haven't pre-booked tickets.

Haven't had a single bet to date, though I will definitely be Laying a few short-priced faves as usual. I think Simonsig is a terrible price for the traditionally chaotic Arkle Chase and so that's a Lay for me, even in an admittedly small field. Anyone else against it?
Report zilzal1 March 11, 2013 12:28 PM GMT
Wont be there Al

Day One, No bets in five of the races because of the ground

Already on CHAMPAGNE FEVER 1 Point @14-1, pace has to be good here, no point in letting MTOY cruise up to you, so going to chuck a 1/4 rfc C FEVER/CAUSE OF CAUSES and 1/4 Point rfc CFEVER/D BULLETS in the hope that the ones that come late

JLT Chase, cursing that i didnt have the conviction to back pre today, think they've made the right(if somewhat unexpected choice) in sending MERRY KING here, battle hardened behind Cannington at its home turf this imo will be easier than the 4 miler in this ground  1.5 Points@12-1

3.5 Points staked on a quiet 1st day
Report zilzal1 March 11, 2013 12:34 PM GMT
OWEGA STAR@50-1 Coral Cup backed for 1 Point win, some decent form in graded company around xmas time, this goes across the water imo
Report Eeternaloptimist March 11, 2013 12:37 PM GMT
Hold your fire boys. Wait till you see the whites of their eyes. Time that first race and react accordingly. Everything depends on just how slow that ground is. For what it is worth MTOY can win doing handstands for all I care. For me he is nothing like the good thing his odds suggest he is and as he is such a huge horse and with how steeply he jumps I can't be sure he will act on the old course.

If the time of the first race is anywhere near or even over 4 minutes then I think The Fly will be very hard to beat. On good ground I genuinely believe that had we seen a peak Grandouet we could have seen something special but with the ground and his prep I simply can't back him and I'm gutted.

I think Simonsig is something very special but no way am I backing odds on. Chances are I won't have as bet tomorrow. May back The Fly if it is slow and I can get 2-1 or better.

TUESDAY
1.30 Bad race for favs.No bet
2.05 Simonsig is a monster.Odds on so no bet unless a treble with Quevaga and Sprinter pays 9/4 at current odds.
2.40 No bet.If you must have an interest Midnight Chase at 20s is a working mans price and loves the course.
3.20 Stats are bad for Binocular,Fly(x2)EW shout Countrywide Flame.5 year olds not good win stats but they frame.
4.00 Mentioned before Arabella Boy.
4.40 Could Quevega be the second leg of a treble? If not no bet.
5.15 Escape the crowds by leaving early. No bet.

Current weather sun shining, wind bitterly cold.

Have just decided for my sanity id better have 1/2 Point at 28-1 just in case TOUR DES CHAMPS jumps well, more than llikely STD wont let it pop at a fence and will fire it into one, thus triggering the automatic Landing gear coming down and the ejector seat into play

Countrywide confuses me somewhat. I think he'd have been beaten on the old course last year and it was stamina which won the day but he was impressive at Newcastle this season. The one thing I would say is that I think he was given a ridiculously easy ride at Donny a couple of weeks back and if I'd backed him for that particular race I wouldn't have been happy at all.

Nice start to the meeting with C Fever being heavily backed over the weekend and on the day

Already on RIVAL D'ESTRUVAL 7-1 and OWEGA STAR 50-1 for the NH Chase and Coral Cup respectively

No bets in the C Chase,RSA, and The Fred Winter cheating bastards hurdle

In the Neptune im taking on the very short priced Fav, the Jonjo one and the NTD animal just woth a small rfc in RULE THE WORLD/CHATTERBOX, both look as if they have any amount of improvement, imo i might as well go for gold as dutching them wouldnt pay an awful lot

Going for an Emerald isle Com in the Coral Cup ABBEY LANE,FIVEFOURTHREE and OWEGA STAR, apart from the fav i dont think that the english are that well handicapped

A small bet in the Bumper, have heard conflicting reports about the challenge over the water, Pipe runs three at it so im going for a welsh victory with the runaway winner MILO MAN @20-1

Port and Brandy await, Good luck all

Great day for the Irish in the top races and hot so far. Going to have a little tickle on a couple of Hendo's. Chatterbox if he stays and Hadrians if he jumps could go close.

Well what the Lord giveth he taketh back and after yesterdays 14-1 success it wasnt long before he delivered a almighty kick in the Goolies when Rival d'estruval fell when disputing the lead two out, right to take on the hot fav in the next but with the wrong one, The ground wasnt soft enough for my Oirish lads in the Coral Cup and my hunch about the taffy one in the bumper was as accurate as a 2006 House price forecast!!

Onwards and upwards, No bets in the Jewson(hot race) Ryanair(seething because de bromhead didnt go there) X Country(say no more) and Byrne Plate(probably the most difficult race to suss this week)

KIm Muir
already on ROMANESCO 16-1 adding CHARTREAUX 16-1 for 1 point, Jamie Codd booked for this Tom George mount, this one could be unexposed over fences having won over further at Wincanton lto, will get quite a gallop to aim at.

Pertempts
1 Point CAPTAIN SUNSHINE 25-1 bigger than i expected mainly because most of the stable have been running like diseased camels this one however seems to have escaped the malaise, having finished runner up to the Twiston Davies one at Newbury, this one ran well, franking the form in the Coral today, you wont be seeing this one until late, not too late i hope

World Hurdle
INHO PEDDLARS CROSS@10-1 is the best animal in the field, its a matter of whether Donalds managed to rekindle him, any horse who won such a fiercely contested Neptune when much younger shouldnt have trouble with a staying trip three years later 1.5 Points win

Big day on Friday, drink needed now, expect hangover.....Good Luck all

I've had a little nibble at Captain Conon as I think the better ground should bring big improvement but the main two bets of my whole season will be First Lieutenant and then I'll be watching the preliminaries of the world hurdle. If the Reve De Sivola who turned up in January is there then the money stays in the pocket as I didn't like the look of him that day. If he turns up looking well then I'll be shovelling it on and they will be carrying me out feet first if it gets beat.

This is the day.

Feck me what a day. I can't remember a worse one for a long time. It started out bad enough. Having had a little tickle on Conon you could have knocked me down with a feather that Beneficient bounded up the hill at 20-1. I was all over him each way last year as I couldn't see him out of the places. I saw no great excuses a few weeks ago when the other supposedly top class horses fell because he was travelling like a proper good horse. I just couldn't see him doing it on the supposedly goodish ground they told me it was. My hand timing told me differently and I felt I'd been shafted but it still made me more confident about my main bets.

Took a trip to the bookies and then the wheels came off. I thought 2-1 was very short and shouldn't have backed First Lieutenant. Full stop. How on earth did they send it off at that price after they had stood Russell down? I'd already stupidly backed it when they showed em down at the start and I saw it and thought to myself, that doesn't look like one of Ireland's finest. He wouldn't have made any difference. Cue Card finally found the proverbial balls which his undoubted talent suggested he lacked. One thing's for sure. My money wouldn't have come out of my pocket and I was seriously pissed off.

Still that wasn't my main bet. Reve De Sivola looked a picture at the start and I waited and waited till I saw Johnson positioning the horse right at the front in a statement of clear intent and I thought all the stars had aligned. He was going to make them work on the only horse guaranteed to stay and have the requisite class. How wrong I was. What the feck was Johnson thinking? How could he allow it to turn into a glorified two miler with the race only really starting up the final hill on the far side. Is it any wonder that the two and a half milers finished up laughing at him? What a cnunt?

A good rant after a few glasses of Woodford Reserve can be cathartic. And the thing which really gets me is that Crackers tipped Sivola. I should have known.Laugh

Getting Old

I must have drunkenly staggered home and walked under a Couple of dozen ladders and trod on several Black cats judging how my luck went today, two admittedly **** bets ended up with the desired results, but, Oh Boy, did the other two hurt.

1st of all Captain Sunshine gave the field a start, the outside to no one and must have covered 100 yards more than anything else only to finish an agonising second at 25-1 to a serial loser and then later on the final arrow up the anal passage was Romanesco having a horse falling in front of it, then being squeezed out a couple of times, having to go the outside with plenty to do and having to use all the petrol getting to the leaders to finish 3rd, another 16-1 AP voucher that is only worth using to wipe one's arse.

Enough, 1st of all, lets wish all the best to JT in hospital and pray that he improves

On to tomorrow and the biggest punting day of Noels life and hope we see OUR CONOR in the winners enclosure thus ensuring a mighty piss up

On HISAABAAT@33-1 in the second, hopefully this will pay for a cruise that the wife fancies!!

The rain should arrive then in time for UTOPIE DES BORDES@14-1 in the Albert Bartlett then i can have a quick snooze whilst they run a couple of races for slow old boats...

I can pass on in the STOKE ON TRENT Handicap hurdle that, in his words, Noel said he "Wet Himself" when he saw MAKE YOUR MARKS"  rating......

In the last i hope its now raining hard so my 20-1 TETLAMI will have a nice chance

If that little lot loses then i'll have played in 14 races and only won one, lucky it was a price that compensated, so i'll have been level, though thats not including the 200 ****, copious alcohol and takeaway food

Be lucky

Well I've had enough for this year. Totally sickened me that Reve did and if the years have taught me one thing it is that when the great bird of paradise is shiitting on you then it will do so with gusto. So anybody who wants the dubious benefit of my own observations they can have them for free because I'm drawing stumps and betting no more till my head has cleared. I've looked at the January Saturday meeting at Cheltenham in the minutest detail for days and I have one absolutely firm opinion which I cannot shift. The form of the novice is absolutely rock solid. They were looking for excuses for The New One which granted may partially have been there but I think (and my timing analysis bears this out big time) that he was beaten by a very very good horse and that the performance was if anything infinitely preferable to even The Cleeve which are supposed to be the best of the best.

If something can beat At Fishers Cross then it will need to be an absolute machine. I strongly advise a maximum bet for anybody brave or stupid enough to listen to me.

Outside of that the rain is key and if it comes it will probably turn the day into yet another bookies benefit. At a reasonable price I think Cotton Mill has a good chance and if it is really soft then it will be last man standing in the gold cup and some of the leading fancies will be shown to not have the hearts of lions needed to win such a race in such conditions. It could be a crazy result but as I say if the rains come I'll stick with one at a price with a bit of class who will battle in Cape Tribulation.

Outside of that I don't have any other thoughts other than that I am going to get even drunker and to say again that At Fishers Cross should not be missed.

Oh and fucck Cheltenham. Laugh

Two lays
Zarkandar (Ch.hurdle) won't have the pace to get up the hill in this field

Tracked leader, pushed along approaching 3 out, driven and lost 2nd just before next, no impression on front trio after last, weakened final 75 yards

Silviano De Conti (Gold Cup) only won on flat tracks, worth laying here

Tracked leaders, hit 9th, 2 lengths down in 3rd and every chance when fell 3 out

BACK
Sizing Europe (Ch. Chase) -

May have got closer if he hadn't stumbled before 2 out, but was never going to win. It paid 10/11 for a place on the Tote.

Bobs Worth (Gold Cup)
Easy enough at his favourite course.

Pendra (Coral Cup) - but the best prices have all gone
Held up towards rear, headway on outside after 4 out, short lived effort 2 out, weakened between last 2, hampered last opened

Ridden by the 15 times champion, who never does me any good. If I backed Arkle with McCoy on it, it would be beaten.
