Helicopters making a racket as usual.  I was wondering why these students are always mouthing off pretending they know everything if they're so in need of free education?

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns; there are things we do not know we don’t know.

—United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

Why do they have to do it in the hoss road though?  I'll have to go south of the river briefly to get home early.

Remember the poll tax ? The death knell was after a rally got out of hand and frightened the Tory government. If you sit back and swallow everything the government comes up with, then there's nothing they like better.

I would like to think you are correct Mike. I fear things have changed. Remember the 2009 G20 protest, the police now have enormous powers. The students should have been bright enough to be on the streets when Top Up Fees first reared their ugly heads.

The only way to pay for university fees is to put the basic rate of tax up. Not sure by how much you would need to put it up.

I think VAT on food is the answer. Its not like anyone is starving in this country.

You can see their point. £9,000 a year tuition fees is crazy. Going to turn the whole system into chaos. They give people lectures about debt management and yet after three years, a student would be looking at approaching £30,000 worth of debt - without even considering living costs. Good luck next generation!

I dont understand why uk universities are getting so heavy cuts, in proportion to other causes.  About 85% on direct spending on figures I have seen.  Cut welfare by an extra 5% than planned and you could double higher education spending.

the problem with UK university education, version 2010, is that there are millions having an unbelievably low standard of education in very poor institutions.  Remove all funding from the bottom 40 universities and put all the money on the truly world class, academically superb institutions that still exist, thank God.  The world would come flocking, and UK kids could go for free.

So £3.2billion cuts represents 79% of spending????  So £4billion of total non research univesity spending before hand, now cut to £800million?

Why so stringent when housing benefit is £20,000million a year??

If I was a student, I think I would chuck a brick.  It is mindless.  The coalition are chimps on this one.

Should storm the HOC and drag out those lying, pledge signing Lib Dems and march them up Victoria St so the masses(me included) can vent their anger on the lying Lib Dem filth.

about 5,000 in universities paying £10,000 a year.

rest of the 80,000 go to private schools charging on average £10,000 a term.  sure people can do the math.
