The liars claim they a pro the former but agin the later.
If you aspire to be successful that is OK.
If you become successful you are priviliged which is not OK.
Funny ol world.

If you become successful you are priviliged

A slight flaw in your otherwise beautiful expressed and deeply literate argument, noddys.
Report subversion January 4, 2010 12:29 PM GMT
typical lefty thinking - strive all you want, but don't you dare succeed, or we'll tax the b*llocks off you
Report V4 Vendetta January 4, 2010 12:45 PM GMT
and if you don't we'll put your benefits up before the election, take it back in tax and still reduce them after so we can keep it all.
Report blackburn1 January 4, 2010 12:53 PM GMT
We haven't had the Warren Buffett argument for a while. You know the one, the one where the richest bloke in the world says he's happy to pay more tax while he's got £200 squillion in the bank.

O level students and Dr J fall for that one every time.
Report Dr J January 4, 2010 12:59 PM GMT
Once you boys start believing in Equality of Opportunity, your views may be taken a little more seriously.

The fact is, you're anti-meritocratic in your ideology.
Report blackburn1 January 4, 2010 1:04 PM GMT
I've told you before Dr J, life is about choices: crime, education, drugs, sport - all individual choices.

Lets take you, an ordinary working class background in an industrial city with an illiterate father, now you have a job in education. Give me one reason why others shouldn't follow suit.
Report overboard January 4, 2010 1:09 PM GMT
Dr J has already told me that I am a disgrace to my working class roots becuase I have made a lot of money in business.
We just can't win lads.

I do, it's called a grammar school in every town.

Careful sfc.
Dr J will be hissing like a cat and spitting at you for using the dreaded "G" word!
Report subversion January 4, 2010 1:13 PM GMT
problem is Dr J, your views involve treating anyone who makes the most of their opportunity as a walking cash register

shame you cant transcend the lefty 'equality through mediocrity' way of thinking Dr J

or should we call your views 'equality through lack of opportunity for everyone'
Report blackburn1 January 4, 2010 1:19 PM GMT
Dr J has done ok in life despite a humble upbringing. Him arguing for equality of opportunity is as conceited and arrogant as it gets.
Report subversion January 4, 2010 1:30 PM GMT
his problem is, Dr J cant see that his views have practical consequences

such as disincentivising and punishing success... which is a constant theme throughout most lefty thinking
Report blackburn1 January 4, 2010 1:32 PM GMT
But its worse than that sub, its that "look at me" arrogance - poor background, illiterate father, worked in a bookies blah blah, as if anybody from such a difficult start in life could ever build a career.

If overboard and goring bragged as much as him he'd be squealing like a piglet
Report gus January 4, 2010 1:39 PM GMT
i don't think any 'lefties' on here would suggest 'disincentivising and punishing success'.

It's the Tory Boys who seem to think success is measured solely in terms of disposable wealth.

It's quite possible for a human to be very successful, but not particularly wealthy, and of course many wealthy people are total failures.
Report madsimon January 4, 2010 1:42 PM GMT
funny then gus that the left always measure their 'success' by how much they spend or borrow and look to taxation of the rich to get their core vote out

I would argue socialists are far more obsessed with money than mnay on the 'right'
Report subversion January 4, 2010 1:44 PM GMT
the lefties on here rarely suggest it directly gus (except total fruit loops like Lampus)

but its amazing how often they suggest policies that would have exactly that impact

whether its an insidious, suppressed envy bubbling below the surface, or simple ignorance of cause and effect... who knows

Why are the lefts solutions all about coercing money and moving it around to people with less of it then?

Why are the lefts solutions all about coercing money and moving it around to people with less of it then?

They aren't.

They're about requiring people who can well afford it to contribute to the creation and maintetnance of a social infrastructure that will enable more people to be successful.

the creation and maintetnance of a social infrastructure that will enable more people to be successful.

or the creation of a social infrastructure that will enable more people to live comfortably on benefits by scrounging off the hard work of others
Report gus January 4, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
some people like to work, some people like to scrounge.

If there are more people than jobs then it seems reasonable that those who like to work do the work while those who like to scrounge do the scrounging.
Report madsimon January 4, 2010 2:14 PM GMT
yes gus but not many of those who like to work want to work for the scroungers
Report subversion January 4, 2010 2:17 PM GMT
so gus, once again, you want to reward failure (scrounging) and punish success (force those who work to pay for scroungers)

reward failure, punish success

funny how many lefty views boil down to this, isnt it
Report madsimon January 4, 2010 2:17 PM GMT
and in any case jobs can be created and not just non-jobs of the diversity officer types. Labour are actually destroying proper jobs with their employer NI (payroll tax) increases and shoudl also look to make people contribute with their time for most benefits recived.

its not as if we have an over supply of people caring for old folk or minisule school class sizes or clean streets
Report blackburn1 January 4, 2010 2:24 PM GMT
I've nothing against scroungers, I saw two beggars in town today with a couple of pennies in a hat, I have a choice whether to give them anything. The thought of working damn hard to keep scroungers in plasmas is infuriating.

mads-labour are offering cosy well paid jobs with long holidays and sickness leave ,no accountabilty, job security and early retirement with future generations picking up a huge ponzi pension promise.
How can the private sector ,who fund the whole thing, compete with that?
Its no wonder the country is broke.

bazzar - you are right, Labour has rewarded the failing bankers and the failing benefit scroungers far too well

in amongst all the spin, lies and incompetence, theres one thing you can be sure Labour stands for - rewarding failure
Report subversion January 4, 2010 3:05 PM GMT
so if you like taxing hard working people, and using the money to reward failure (bankers, benefit scroungers, etc)... then Labour is the party for you
