well nearctic at least he is not afraid to sack people in contrast to Ken and labour in general who seem unwilling to ever sack anybody especially cronies.

as for the police investigation well boris was right to be angry and its pity Michael Martin wasn't as bothered about it

David Cameron and Boris Johnson are at war over Tory plans to tax the rich.

The Tory leader shocked many in his party last week when he backed a Labour plan for a new 45 per cent top rate of tax for people on £150,000-plus.

But London Mayor Mr Johnson slammed it as a "deterrent to enterprise" in a BBC Radio interview.

Mr Johnson said "clobbering the rich'" would be bad for business and the City would suffer.

His comments exposed a growing rift in the Tories, with Shadow Chancellor George Osborne insisting yesterday he had "never ruled out tax rises

Maybe it's called leadership?

He gets his staff's expenses checked and forces anyone who does wrong to resign immediately.

Unlike our Prime Minister, who tried numerous times through various courts to get details suppressed - and then when his Chancellor is found to be on the take, does nothing about it.

The difference is stark.

A tumultuous week for Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, continued yesterday when one of his former leading aides was charged with fraud.

Ian Clement, the former deputy mayor for external relations, will appear in court on Tuesday charged with five counts of abusing his expenses.

It caps a rough week for the Conservative administration in London.

Johnson and his handpicked head of policing came under fire for claiming they had seized control of the Metropolitan police. Kit Malthouse, the deputy mayor for policing, told the Guardian he and the mayor had "their hands on the tiller" of Scotland Yard, drawing a furious reaction from the Met commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson

ANDREW MARR: Can I sort of move on from some of the specifics to what might be more difficult for you, which is a general perception that after eight years, if I can put it brutally, you've become a bit big for your boots, that you've become a little arrogant, that you've got this group of people around you, and because you have almost sort of unique personal power for a British politician it's just been too long?

KEN LIVINGSTONE: Well, I mean that's the line my opponents are running. It doesn't show up on our opinion poll ratings where, I mean, I've been consistently about, my satisfaction rating's about 20% ahead of my, I mean the dissatisfaction rating quite unusual for a politician after eight years in office. I mean this is the sort of thing you expect opponents to say because my opponents don't want to discuss the issues.

The tories plan to make Boris Johnson "sheriff" of London as part of radical police reforms.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson warned against "creeping politicisation" of the Metropolitan Police.

He spoke out after the Standard revealed that the Mayor is in line to become David Cameron's first elected police commissioner if the Tories win next year's general election.

The minister said: "The idea that one of Boris's henchmen can call up the Commissioner of the Met every few hours to tell him how to run the police will fill people with dread."
