Mining companies don't have ethical issues because they don't have to worry about consumers boycotting their products

morals

i work in shipping, and the china high was driven by the demand for iron ore.

rio tinto if i am not mistaken tried to take on the china system, and bought its way into this market. Numerous chinese executives for state owned steel mills ordering ore have already been executed for under the table exchanges with officials of rio.

furthermore, rio were at the center of the price fixing scandal a couple of years ago, were they intentionally backlogged loading from their north aussie ports in order to drive the price of ore up. seeing that china was in the middle of their boom, they would pay anything, literally anything in order to get the ore, just like a junkie his drugs. normally, prices are fixed abt 6 months forward, but when you have factories in huge demand, and ore not coming in, you will pay anything for a**

even though they are considered one of the biggest miners worldwide, they cannot compete with the likes of BHP or VALE or MITTAL.

if you really need info for a uni paper, just look at bloomberg or yahoo finance. they will link you to numerous articles and statistics about this company.

hope this helps
