250,000 Public sector workers out on strike as Irish Government battles to cut its deficit and avoid bankruptcy. Given that its deficit is less than the UKs its a good indication of whats in store over here once we make the cuts.
It also shows we are not alone in having a deluded selfish population who havent a clue about what is necessary to protect our future and arent even prepared to make a very modest sacrifice.

The sooner we start the sooner it ends.
The head of SERCO the outsourcing company said yesterday that savings of 20-30% were possible by runiing the pubic sector efficiently.

The real shame is the effect these cuts will have on the good public sector workers, and there are many. They can see who the useless colleagues are, but the management will make any excuse rather than sack them.

So they all get dragged down by the dross.

shab-agreed-and the sickness culture is dreadful. In my company those who are disproportionately off sick are ostracised by the good attendees who have to cover for them .My wife worked in the pubic sector for a while and "sickness " was endemic culturally.

It's alright as the conservatives will have to take the rap for this in the minds of the dumb electorate.

From recollection the average Irish public sector worker is on £40k+. They are also in a position of losing money hand over fist regards their budget.

People talk about the IMF taking over National finances whne budgets are going astry, but in the case of any country within the Eurozone......that will actually mean a take over by the EU and a loss of sovereignty.

Ireland today is not the UK tomorrow.
