Those facing prosecution are Labour MPs Elliot Morley, David Chaytor and Jim Devine, and peers Baroness Uddin, Lord Hanningfield and Lord Clarke of Hampstead.

Four of the case files have been passed to the CPS, with a further two expected to follow within weeks.

Yes, it's a bit negligent, but it's only like getting caught doing 35mph in a 30mph zone the day after they lower it from 40mph. Frankly it's all envy this rubbish, whether it's Dismore or Osborn - they don't get paid enough in the first place.

How, dear Lampy, does this 'fiddle' rate against 'Baroness' Scotland who overclaimed for nearly £170k on a fake 2nd home allowance. She is the Attorney-General by the way! She carried out this scam from 2004 to date.

In her case, Bottler retrospectively changed the rules for Cabinet ministers (no one else) allowing them to claim for a 2nd home regardless of its location.

PS - to give Lampy & friends a little help - £170k is significantly more than one month's interest on a £480k mortgage.

When all the hysteria dies down this is what will be seen as the root cause of it all. Pay them what the job is worth and you'll remove all of the snide fiddles.
Report Pangloss November 24, 2009 11:25 AM GMT
Osborne claimed £1,400 after the limit was reduced to £1,250. ie he overclaimed by £150.

'Baroness' Scotland claimed for £38,200 pa from 2004 for a 2nd home which did not meet the rules at the time. The only time our Attorney-General's expenses were within the rules was when Bottler retrospectively changed the rules to avoid having to sack her.

PS For Lampy & Co - the difference in 'fiddling' expenses is:-

£150 Osborne Tory
£170,000 Scotland NuLab and friend of Bottler

This is a clear NuLab win by an impressive £169,850 of our money.

toop toop-so if an employee does not feel he is paid enough he should fiddle his expenses this justifing a rise?

noddys

you act like no one ever fiddles their expenses or their employers in some other way. The plain fact of the matter is MP's pay isn't adaquate for the job they are asked to do. Most MP's could earn much more than they do practicing law or in some other arena. Reward them properly for the job they do and remove the fiddles.

Undoubtedly some could earn more, whether most could, i have serious doubts. Surely they like everyone else were aware a the going rate for the job.

Greedy people can never have enough.

When multi millionaires swerve a pot of yoghurt or dog food through expenses, how can them not being paid "enough" be a factor.

Nurses don't get paid enough, they don't think it justifies theft.
