Gievn that our 'president' has been negotiated over a dinner by 27 leaders I think the EU needs to change its name to the above.

We are now officlally living in a land with less democracy to elect its supreme leader than either China,Afghanistan or Russia.

Even the democratic republic of Congo goes through the motion of letting the people nominally vote for its President

well given that there will only be one of two governments come next May -a labour or tory one you have to vote for the one which is most eurosceptic-ie the tories -at least they do not promise referendums on treaties (when something can be done about it) in their manifestos then go back on their word.

Labour also gives back EU rebates wheras the tories negotiate to recieve them

Given that the president has precisely f*ck all powers, I shouldn't lose too much sleep.

So what exactly is the point then? Sooner we're out of that bunch of self-serving khunts the netter.

Dont worry, we're only 5 years from a UKIP govt (I hope)

given that the right in Europe is called "the European Peoples Party" and is run by a Maoist,
that gives us some perspective on how much shi.t we are in

a bit ironic that so many people who are content to live under an hereditary Monarch are now claiming that their democratic sensibilities are outraged by the EU having a head of state chosen by their elected reresentatives.

You have missed the word 'yet' off the end of that, I think.

yes gus but the monarch has no power at all unlike this 'president'

You'd never pass your citizenship exam madsimon:

"Most of the powers once exercised by the monarch have now been devolved (transferred) to ministers. In certain circumstances, however, the monarch retains the power to exercise personal discretion over issues such as appointing the prime minister and dissolving Parliament, even though these powers may never be used in practice, or may only be exercised symbolically."

I think the last sentence you quote shows the queen as no power unlike El Presidente
