Canada will be, one of the countries set to do well imo.
Report Chippie in Whitehall October 29, 2009 12:25 PM GMT
And if Italy follow then there will only be one G7 country left in recession.

Anybody care to guess which one?
Report sibaroni October 29, 2009 12:29 PM GMT
remember Blair repeatedly boasting about being fourth biggest economyin the world. 7th now.

What cannot be argued is that this is to do with the world recession. These are relative measures, we are faring relatively worse.

Don't expect a sensible reply chippie, there isn't one.

Brown now claims to have said 'no more Tory boom and bust' rather than just 'no more boom and bust'. Selective memory perhaps??

In the 2006 budget, he said: "As I have said before Mr deputy speaker: No return to boom and bust".

Going back further, in his conference speech of 2004, he said: "No longer the boom-bust economy, Britain has had the lowest interest rates for forty years".

On 5 April 2000, in a speech to British Chambers of Commerce national conference, Brown said the government had established its new monetary framework "to avoid the historic British problem - the violence of the repeated boom and bust cycles of the past".

The word Tory is strangely absent.
Report sibaroni October 29, 2009 12:38 PM GMT
Whats the implication of having "Tory" in any way? "Labour boom and bust" is in some way okay?
Report sfc1976 October 29, 2009 12:42 PM GMT
Exactly, it's typically pathetic of the man. Rather than just admit he should never said it in the first place, he puts himself in the position of somehow saying that Labour boom and bust is preferable to the Tory version. Ridiculous.

sadly, all this being 4th biggest economy was built on debt and borrowing, it`s been a wretched government, startin with Brown hiving off our gold reserves
Report V4 Vendetta October 29, 2009 1:17 PM GMT
No more boom and bust, just bogeys.
Report blackfritz October 29, 2009 1:30 PM GMT

Absolutley. The nobel peace prize should really have been split between the two of these great men of principle and judgement.

Italy will not be coming out of recession
Report History Maker October 29, 2009 2:36 PM GMT
Suspect you're right Wil. Might spare Brown's brushes slightly. To be fair, the Italians have an even bigger t*t than Brown as their PM.
Report blackburn1 October 29, 2009 2:38 PM GMT
HM, the Italians dont think so. They really dont get as upset as us about scandal, he'll be judged on what he does and plenty of Italians think he's good for them.
Report History Maker October 29, 2009 2:45 PM GMT
The Italians might not think so, but that's largely because Berlusconi controls vast swathes of the media and uses it as a propaganda machine.

Brown is merely a deluded and incompetent fool. Berlusconi is a Grade A despicable ** with an utter contempt for the Italian public and the rule of law. He makes Richard Nixon look like a saint.
Report Wilhelm Reich in Hell October 29, 2009 2:49 PM GMT
Italy a very divided country. divide between left and right is very stated and very little rush for the centre as there has been in most other european countries.

Would agree that Berlusconi is a disgrace. Embodies the worst attributes a politician can and still flourishes

Where are the towering intellects of the left to join us in this joyous news?

Gus, toop toop, Dr J, Crappen, baracouda, tonkability and all you other half wits. Where are you in our hour of need?

Clicked to soon.

Was going to say that he has an awful lot in common with the load of self-serving shysters we have as M.P.'s

Berlusconi has mentored Tony very well hasn't he ?
Report alfie255 October 29, 2009 8:36 PM GMT
Why do lefties have to justify this? Having an economy based on financial services, the retail sector and house prices, without actually producing anything people wanted to buy, was always going to end in tears. And as far as I can remember, our economy has been based around this things for the last 25 years, not the last 12.

Italy has exited recession.
Truly we are uniquely placed.

Bravo Bottler!!
Report Dr Crippen November 13, 2009 3:56 PM GMT
You seem delighted that we are still in recession; if thats the case you wont have long to wait for the next one if the Tories win the election.
