My son came in last night with his hand swollen following a game of five a side, i took him to A+ E and he was assessed, x-rayed and treated in 70mins. Trivial i know but nobody asked if we had medical insurance, a credit card etc, now we all know the NHS has it's probs but i for one say it's a shining example of practical socialism in action, and the reason many on the tory right hate it and would love to tear it apart.

I can't speak for the whole NHS but I have to say A+E was absolutely fan-bloody-tastic when I had to go there. Clean, quick, friendly staff. I wanted to give them a tip. If hairdressers get a tip why shouldn't they!!

Yes, viva the NHS.

Both my grand-mothers were killed by the NHS. First with MRSA, second with C-difficile.

"Both my grand-mothers were killed by the NHS. First with MRSA, second with C-difficile."

no they were killed by incompetent executives who dont view hygiene as highly as those who actually work on the wards and the same execs would prefer nurses time be taken up attending lean thinking seminars. unfortunately the NHS is riddled with such incompetence at a higher managerial level

The rise in infections caused by dirty wards has coincided with the contracting out of cleaning services, yet more evidence of the fallacy that private services are always more efficient than public.
Report sibaroni November 12, 2009 4:50 PM GMT
Blame the execs, blame the contractors, etc.

Nope, blame a model that relies on limitless funding, which it can't have in the real world. Where the pinch point hits is arbitary from the patients point of view.

It was nasty maggie whostarted the dirty wards in the name of money
Report Larry's Codpiece. November 12, 2009 7:49 PM GMT
For once Lampus is right. Maybe I should lie down:

When I was a young fella there was a cleaner for each ward and they were spotless because they took pride in their patch. Contracting out of that service was an unmitigated disaster which cost far more money in hospital aquired infections than it saved.

The blame for that can be placed squarely on the shoulders of the Thatcher government.

no one ever dies in private hospitals, they all live happy ever after
Report jack-spot November 12, 2009 8:29 PM GMT
if you need an operation get it quick before next may.you will be waiting alot longer when the targets are scrapped by dave and his boys.

So was 11 years not long enough to reverse the policy?

The NHS merits or not as the case can be cannot possibly be debated sensibly by announcing you love it because they cleared up an injury to a relative. Thats basically what they are there for. No much point in a hospital being an hospital if it did not do that private or NHS
Report jack-spot November 12, 2009 8:36 PM GMT
change your name kid to SIMPLE.
Report Ronaldinho's dentist November 12, 2009 8:37 PM GMT

Report madsimon November 12, 2009 8:37 PM GMT
ok but its even harder to change your name on here than labour governments!!!
Report jack-spot November 12, 2009 8:39 PM GMT

my own experience of the NHS through having a premature baby and early this year a broken arm needing an operation is that they are fine with the medical side , ok with patient aftercare (if a little brusque and assuming ) but terribel with admin or any kind of patient explanation or reassurance
Report jack-spot November 12, 2009 8:42 PM GMT
