on the streets of Britain are planned in the border regions of Afghanistan.
How many terrorists acts have been carried out on the streets of Britain by anyone other than the IRA? Whom I presume he is not claiming were based on the border of Pakistan. Personally, I can only recall two, so is he claiming it was 1.5 of these that were planned there?
Does this really justify an 8 year long invasion hundreds of dead soldiers and innocent Afghan citizens with no end in sight?
He is attempting to justify the ongoing carnage in Afghanistan using an attempt at subtletly when in fact intelligence suggests terrorist acts are actaully being planned over the border in Pakistan.

Woollars is the only one to break ranks claiming the troops were in Afghanistan to help control immigration.
I think one of the smarmy spokesmen put it higher than 75%. Even with electoral defeat staring them in the face they still think the electorate will fall for bull for a fourth time.

Were not most of the actual and recently thwarted terrorist attacks in the UK planned in the UK?
If we removed ourselves from the Middle East once and for all, we might even see a reduction in planned attacks, as the terrorists' main rationale for their actions would be removed too.
It's a pity the UK still sees itself as a world leader having to "influence" world events and policies when there is so much wrong with our own country that our leaders haven't the wit or interest to resolve. Our politicians are still colonialists at heart.

The irrefutable (yet unspeakable) truth, imo.

"lets give them what they want so we won't get hurt"
On the contrary, I'd love to see Israel invaded by a UN-led alliance and forcibly removed from the Palestinian land it currently occupies.
I might even sign up for a piece of the action myself...

There are plenty of seemingly unspeakable truths out there but as long as there is a lefty with breath in his lungs that ain't one of em.

"Let's just give Germany the Sudetenland. I am sure the Czechs will be fine after that."
Sorry to bring up the Nazis, but surely you can't justify picking on one minority, to bring peace for all. Where would it then stop?

^ That's really the point I was making, but felt the isn't Gordon a** approach would garner more interest.
Fact is, it's oil and drugs and strategic positioning of military resources.
Even though the original excuse was hunting Osama :^0 which then morphed into bringing democracy to the poor mites and freeing Women from oppression, finally becoming protecting us at home from the endless onslaught of Taliban suicide bombers who have been plaguing Kent for years.
The reality is this was all planned long before 9/11

You're comparing the Palestinians with the Nazis?
Surely it's Israel who are the aggressors in the Middle East, Kent?

No, certainly not. There should be a state set up for the Palestinians for the sake of peace and self determination, rights etc, but for those reasons themselves... But to say we must do it to placate Al Qaeda, Iran and assorted hostile groups is wrong and only leads to more trouble later.
(Always unfortunate bringing up the Nazis, really I was bringing up Czechoslovakia as the example that was sacrificed!)

Thats sort of the point. Palestinians should be given a home land because they, as people, should have one. Lets not ordain terrorists with a religion. The "Christians" of the IRA did nothing in my name.

I agree. That's why we should do it in the name of justice and democracy.

So what oil would that be? Olive oil? Last I read they don't have any oil that is why they import over 4000 barrels a day
You don't know what a fact is!

Afghanistan has no oil production at present according to World oil production figures there is mention of Agnot oilfield in the north which is non productive at present and apparently not worth tapping. At the turn of the century there was some high hopes for it. Nothing has come of it.
The pipe line for oil is only a conduit crossing Afghanistan. There is also a gas pipeline proposed.
By Ian McWilliam BBC correspondent in Kabul An agreement has been signed in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat, paving the way for construction of a gas pipeline from the Central Asian republic through Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Pipelines The project has been around for some years The building of the trans-Afghanistan pipeline has been under discussion for some years but plans have been held up by Afghanistan's unstable political situation.
This follows a summit meeting bringing together the presidents of the three countries last May when the project received formal go-ahead.
The pipeline would represent the first major foreign investment in Afghanistan in many years.
Alternate route
With improved regional security after the fall of the Taleban, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan have decided to push ahead with plans for the ambitious 1,500-kilometre-long gas pipeline.
President Karzai (R) with Foreign Minister Abdullah (L) and Pakistani Foreign Minister KM Kasuri (seated) Pakistan will be the terminus for the pipeline The leaders of the three countries have now signed a framework agreement defining the legal aspects of setting up a consortium to build and operate the pipeline.
The trans-Afghanistan pipeline would export Turkmen gas via Afghanistan to Pakistani ports, from where it could reach world markets.
India is the largest potential buyer and the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, said Delhi was welcome to join the project.
Turkmenistan has some of the world's greatest reserves of natural gas, but still relies on tightly controlled Russian pipelines to export it.
Ashgabat has long been desperate to find an alternative export route.

The pipeline from the Caspian Sea can and probably is pumping 1 million barrels of oil a day. It comes west, not east.
The pipeline avoids Afganistan which is convenient for western markets. They didn't want it going east to supply India, Pakistan and China.
Whatever the exact reasons for the war, Afghanistan is right at the heart of the 'problem' of moving the vast, and I mean vast oil and gas resources in the Caucasus region.
It could be said that this region holds the key for the world's energy resources for decades to come.
