Rank desperation

Gordon Browns suggestion for a Tobin tax would, if implemented, crucify the City of London. We are the largest foreign exchange centre in the world and that Brown is seriously suggesting hitting this industry is a sure sign he does not expect to be in government after the election.

It is the proposal that a British prime Minister should be dying in a ditch to kill off given that the City generates about a tenth of Britains economic wealth. The kind of proposal that might be aired by a Frenchman, purely to outrage Britain.

It is, of course, a trick: Brown knows it wont be agreed because it requires the approval of every major currency-trading country and that will never be secured. It has been explicitly rejected by the Americans, which was perhaps the intention. But everyone else at the G20 will see Browns proposal for what it is: the desperate vote-seeking move of a Prime Minister who knows hes going down.

There would be no loss of competitiveness as one of the pre-questite for introducing a Tobin Tax is that it is adopted by all.

It has been explicitly rejected by the Americans, which was perhaps the intention.

Americans are still angry with Wall Street, it would come as no surprise to me if at some stage of his presidency, Obama eventually endorses the Tobin tax.

Nonsense. If he was going to take a populist measure he would signal his intention to do it at the height of public outrage. If it has been nixed now then it aint coming back to the table and you know it.

Unelected, stupid and dishonest. An absolute embarrassment to the UK that he is prime minister.

Not sure about that Brown is probably what we deserve if our voting follows tribal lines without any allowance for intelligence ?
