Here we are ,nearly in 2010,and the coke braziers and picket lines are with us yet again.
Many firms have had to make redundancies,many firms have told their workers there will be no pay increases for 2010,many firms are struggling to survive,yet the unions will still call strikes.
Surely in our present situation this is not the way to go.
Binmen strike a possibility!!

Do you think that is acceptable ????, would you like that done to you ?????, would you stand up for your rights, dont forget this was agreed in 2007. Now, whether they listen to egotistical union men, as you put it or not, is their right. I am not a postman................I can see this becoming the norm if the bosses can sh1t on workers and get away with it. You may be next............................ |

layem&payem, car manufacturing was automated 20 years ago. It doesn't take a great stretch of the imagination to see the collection of a few bins automated. So yes, they should be grateful to have a job.
I have never been a member of a union in my life so standing shoulder to shoulder with my 'brothers' around a coke brazier is never going to happen. |

Mubil..........................I sincerly hope you never need anyone but if you job was under threat who would help you. I was actually talking about the postman, I dont know much about the bin men in Leeds but the priciple is the same, if they can divide then they will conquer. |

The pay review is being carried out by Councils nationwide following a court ruling that thousands of women Council employees were underpaid for years. Councils face bills of millions to put matters right and began reviews of pay structures. In Leeds the bill is around £3m. In Leeds 45 per cent of the Council's 35,000 staff will not be affected, and 47 per cent will receive pay increase. But eight per cent - about 3,500 workers - face pay cuts. The council says that over the next three years it will continue talks with the unions to explore ways of avoiding pay cuts. I have no experience of unions but from the outside this is how it looks. 1) They continue to strike, and eventually win a short term reprieve on existing contracts. - The council still need to cut costs so would probably speed up 2 / 3 weekly collections leading to redundancies. 2) They accept they have led the life of Reily for many years and are totally unskilled so back down on condition that 2 / 3 weekly collections are not phased in for xx years. 3) They continue to strike and the council fill the temp vacancies they have advertised on the new salary. The strike rumbles on for years until all strikers have melted into the night. |

Why isn't all bin collection all outsourced by now? Councils are all about backhanders for planning consents-they know nothing of refuse.
The specialists can do it cheaper and better and can be sacked if they don't. |

If these brothers are so loyal to one another shouldn't the tiny minority be happy the majority are going to be better off?

The majority should look after the minority out of their pay packets- solidarity brothers.
Or perhaps the real world doesn't operate on these utopian lines? |
