You are quite correct.  I find poker incredibly boring and that includes live play.  But I also find it profitable.  Friends keep getting on my back saying things like, "Why do you keep skiving off the poker tables to go and play chess.  You are terrible at chess and it costs you money.  You make money playing poker."
My answer is always the same.  Poker is dull, mind-numbingly tedious and I hate playing it, but I LIKE playing chess even though I am astonishingly bad at it.

jesusisback why dont you go play with yoyurself you tw@t. Not everyone loses like yourself and some poeple do actually enjoy the game like myself.

I would much prefer playing poker for 8 hours a day than having to travel to work and sit infront of a pc screen for 8 hours like I currently do.

Before you reply with another load of sh1t, have a quick think (If that's possible) and dont!

Is your post directed at yourself, or at other people who you have no idea how they live their lives?
Report wykhamist2 April 11, 2011 12:26 AM BST
The thing about online poker is that its great when you are winning, particularly a MTT. It all kind of seems worthwhile then.

When you are losing, particularly if you know you are doing nothing wrong, it is just depressing.

When you are just breaking even, eg if you have been playing SNG's for 4 hours and end up the session 10 p up or something, you ask yourself why on earth are you wasting your time on such a pointless exercise, basically just being a rake mule for the owners of the site.

Considering how often I end up in one of the latter 2 categories, even if I am making a slight profit in the long term, I am inclined to agree with the original post.

wykh do you think that applies to us all as the OP is suggesting ... peep play for lots of reasons and all have different circumstances
Report wykhamist2 April 11, 2011 8:17 PM BST
Oh I think the OP was just a wind-up really,  didn't take it too seriously.

You are correct people play for many reasons. Personally I don't like the game much, but I have time on my hands and as long as I am not losing money I dont mind to give up a couple of hours per day on it.

If you can make a good living from it then good luck. I must say though that I don't really understand those players who admit to losing hand over fist but still play because they 'enjoy it'.
Report chipfire227 April 11, 2011 10:28 PM BST
i cashed in 4 mtts on 888 last week, all with over 180 runners. as has been said getting deep is  really  enjoyable, especially like last night when its apat league one and you know you are playing decent players and you can play proper poker.

at the same time grinding low/mid stakes stts is horrible, even when you are in front. when you are on a downswing it's a living hell. how people do it to eke out a living beggars belief.
Report HarryHatless April 12, 2011 1:08 AM BST
@wykhamist2 who said, "I don't really understand those players who admit to losing hand over fist but still play because they 'enjoy it'."

I think those players enjoy it because they play a lot more hands than winning players.  It's probably more exciting to get all your chips in on the flop with just a flush draw than it is to have folded that hand pre.
Report wykhamist2 April 12, 2011 11:15 AM BST
It's certainly true that its more interesting to be involved with a lot of hands. If you play tight aggressive on a 10 handed table you are just folding nearly all the time early on and playing almost like a bot.

I guess it's whatever turns you on. Personally I prefer to play a boring game and not lose money, others obviously not.

Another problem with playing uber tight, as I do, is that you are banking on winning your big hands when you shove, nearly always with the best hand. If you lose them you are usually out of the tourney. This effectively increases your variance and leads to a lot of frustration when, as chipfire says, you are on a downswing.

Maybe we need to vary the games we play a bit?
Report chipfire227 April 12, 2011 7:01 PM BST
one of the good things about the old bf was that there was a decent selection of plo stts and lower end plo mtts running. i haven't seen a plo stt fill at any point on ongame. we were promised a plo community mtt at one point, it never materialised

the other option is to play heads up where you are a lot more active obviously, but who in their right mind is going to pay 10% rake for a heads up stt, which is at least double the cost anywhere else ?

you only have to look at this forum and the lack of threads/activity to see that the uk based regs have pretty much all fked off to other sites. Sad
Report akabula April 12, 2011 7:11 PM BST
variety as in everything else is the answer ... i go to ladds for razz and bfred for plo

Are the 30 player sngs unique to Ongame? I have enjoyed playing the $3, $5, $10 and $20 turbos and was wondering whether there was any info on strategy and how to play them?
Report chipfire227 April 13, 2011 1:05 PM BST
just played a 10$ 30 man. very first hand get kk in mid position. guy ahead of me limps, i raise to 100, button raises to 350, big blind goes all in. i call, so does the button.

bb has 88, button has a 10. flop comes 8 a 6. gg wp etc.

they are utter shyte fests, full of mediterranean super donks. i normally just play very tight aggressive, overbet any premiums  pre and likewise any flop i hit. under no circumstances even consider slow playing big/made hands, bet, bet, bet for value.

if you get a big stack early on dont think you can bully the rest of the table into submission with junk, because they will steadfastly refuse to buckle.

Firstly let me say, this post was not winde up.

At the time about 10 days ago , I had just come back from a m8's who had been playing for 2days solid.
He has/had a family n kids, she had just left him.

Now I know people win, but many more lose, and this proportion lose more than just money.
I play poker maybe 10 - 15 times a year live tourney, and i enjoy it, i think thats ok for me, not a good player but enjoy it and try to do my best n get lucky sometimes.

The guy im on about wins consistantly online, but loses everywere else in life, I was trying to get a point across regarding balance.

Good luck if you continue in the 8 hours(or more) grind, just reflect sometimes and the other things you have around you.

One last thing regarding win/lose, people on the race thread have a go at me for being just that,,a winner i mean, I post my bets they win, sometimes lose, have a fantastic SR but for some people they become so hurt by other people winning, it turns into nasty jelousy.
So now i just have 1 thread, which is over 200 points up after a few days, and still you get the sh!t, but i am now carrying it on for the few who want to know, and to winde the others up even more.

But good luck in your poker, Just think about the family/freinds sometimes.[;)]
