Pairs/doubles sounds fine. Not sure if enough of each for mixed doubles. Could just randomly pair. Happy any way. Certainly decent idea for any giveaway promotion. As for Billynomates I'm happy to pair up with any unwanteds for this. So no need to worry. Other than I'm not doing well 1 week into 2011. Perhaps this weekend it will change.

If it's Betfair adding the prizes and us/ you running it, why not have a similar tournament to the last community forum games? It doesn't have to be much but Betfair could add a few spot prizes like they did before like the bubble milestones and bounties.
The rebuy tournament was fun so I'd like to keep that.
It keeps it simpler than forming teams and half the team goes AWOL yet gets rewarded for not playing.

Players / Teams declared in the forum by say 18 January. Once we know the teams, we can set up a game with a $5 buy in and a $2 rebuy (with password). The game can be played on Monday 24th January.
Maybe having the deadline much earlier than the game showing in the tournament lobby will help prevent those who look in the lobby from leeching off the forum game just because they saw it in the lobby. Thus forumites are more likely to benefit that way.
Winning team will get the tickets if there team was declared in the forum by the closing date?
If people dont like a 2 man team format, it could be any man for himself.
Alternatively we can all put our names in a hat and do a random draw to create 2 man teams (we will use online software like easysweep.com)

OK if it's a team event, take in my points above. Random draw sounds good but as an extra thought, the team that wins has a 25% stake in the winners of the seats, paid out as a freeroll if they cash?
I'm sure it could be arranged?
BTW Klup, if you're attending, I owe you a pint.

if you make it every man for himself the entire world will want to play at the last minute and make a million and one excuses for not registering an interest sooner on the forum.
personally i'd say 2 man teams, drawn on a set date, with no entries for stragglers once the draw has been made. otherwise you will just get random people seeing the game in the lobby, coming here for the password and demanding to be allocated to a team. once you accept one late entry you have to accept em all.

i like your comments chipfireball... i think forumites declare interest by a set date. We upload the names to a random generating sweepstakes site and confirm the teams.
We then have the game put into the lobby. I think we need the game password with a buy-in of say $5 with a $2 rebuy so that the winner of the game also gets some cash as we have been offered 2 seats (ie. not packages).
If one team member does not turn up / play, then maybe we should have a rule that if thats the case, a sole team member wins both seats for himself and a mate of his choice (like me for instance [;)] ).
1500 starting chips, 10 minute clock and 1500 chips per rebuy, with 2500 at add on stage?

what? random teams suck , why? because you could be paired with some realy bad fish or with a sitout or something like that , so you basicly loose the battle before it even starts , it would be better each team posting the 2 nicknames on the forum and thats that
but my opinion is that every man for himself is better
also 2 man teams means collusion , but by doing this we violate the T&C of Betfair

for people to win a game where its every player for himself - they can play the satelites ... whats the point of having a forum game if it doesnt have a bit of a twist??
Im very open to having people preselect their teams.

this sounds fun how about 4 games series with half going through each game a $5 buyin with the buyins making up the prizepool for final game with the tickets plus money up for grabs no paired teams so if u win u get to take who u want

the bigger you make the teams and the more games you play the more complicated it gets. and, as has already been stated, you could end up with a situation where one member only plays one game and fails to cash but gets a seat, wheras someone who has played 4 times and final tabled 4 times doesnt get one.
if theres 2 seats then teams of 2 is logical. whether teams are drawn at random or arranged by the participants themselves is irrelevant really. the main thing is that the teams are all decided and published before the game goes in the lobby, and once it is in the lobby, no more teams are accepted, which makes it more likely regular contributors to the forum get them.

2 man teams ideally, esp as only 2 prizes . personally, think random teams are better, and needs soring a squick as possible, only a 5 weeks till live comp.

im more in favour of a one off game to be honest. We are talking about 2 x $400 tickets and to host 4 games waters down the value IMHO.
Agreed - a ticket option is the preferred option , my only concern was - we then lose the ability to create a cash pool to compliment the seat.
Do we need the cash pool to compliment? Or are the seats on their own just fine?

Two man team to me is spot on with a cash pool added for people who dont live on the doorstep to pay for hotel on a one off game then it doesnt get complicated and makes it easier to run.

Hi, I like the idea of two man teams with a cash entry/prize structure....and on a Sunday night in a one of game.
Personally I'd prefer to select my own team mate, as there's more chance that both players will play on the night and it makes travel/accommodation easier to organise (for the live game [;)].
Might be better on 6 seater tables - to reduce the likelihood of team mates being on the same table?

Although two team mates cannot truly influence an mtt game unless 3 left and both still about imo.

Live tickets are transferable ... but would be down to the respective winners to sort out.
Seats cannot be cash in though - but as there are limited seats, im sure it will be pi$$ easy to sell.
I would be disappointed not to see someone use their seats.
PS - ovalman, im definitely going, ive bought my seat already off satelite final winner

Hi guys - i got some insight that Betfair could be looking to do a little forum promo to give away two seats to Betfair Live London
This is why Betfair should run it, straight forward one off free game, first two get a ticket. Not all forum readers want to or can afford to pay £20 in buy ins for something that Betfair WANT to give to their customers.

My point was I know quite a few fourm/betfair poker players that would never get invovled in these team things because the buyins/prizes are to small and not worth the effort.
Would be nice to see a decent team strucuted event once in a while with something worthwile to play for.Im sure this wld entice a lot of the old regulars back and they then may get a few to even stay.

Reasonable comments Joffy - but in terms of the volume of people interest at higher stakes is much lower.
That said, when I did try to organise another WCWSOP styled team event with big packages on offer, Betfair didnt take it up. Maybe the one i did didnt tick all the boxes for them.
Anyways,as badbeat have just announced DreamTeam VI there is no real window of opportunity to introduce at the moment.

I remember betfairs attempt at the dreamteam lol. Keep trying mate,a decent team event on a Sunday night wld get a bit of interest I think. That night BF have their higher end tournaments on which wld be a perfect night to play as people wld play them also if there on the site.

If you go with 2 man teams then surely it should be an average score of both your places combined to make it more fair and interesting.
Also having rebuys isnt a good idea imo if you are doing random teams as you might get stuck with someone who doesnt rebuy, so should def be a freezout imo

If betfair are looking to do a little forum promotion, Wouldn't it make more sense to offer something that appeals to more people rather than just do a promotion that appeals to the locals and travellers
I dont mean to sound ungrateful, But all online poker players wanna win money. And not all poker players want to win seats to somewhere which is inconvenient
Surely the majority of people would have to spend more in travel and accomodation for some of these events
They could easily spend less money and buy in to a game with the equivilent payouts online
I like the sound of some of the games, But for the reason above the prize is worthless to me

"betfair have done a promotion in glasgow which suited anyone up north", not true, de1, not to pick a fight but glasgow is just as much a pain in the ass to get too as london is for me, i dont think u can please everyone and the promo is designed to get more bf regulars into the london game, i dont think its everyones cup of tea and i read a comment earlier about $20 being too expensive a buy in for some, but if 20 is too much then london isnt for u, as a cup of coffee is that. anyway gl to those who play and win

Right lets get this on my final suggestion is to have a one off tourney on a sunday with a $20 buy in to pay for hotel and travelling expenses making it a nice little tourney to play in with good crack and if betfair wants to add hotel and tavelling expenses all the better. Good luck anyone who gets me.

That sounds like a good suggestion to me :)
Kulp - if it is everyman for themself then I agree the winner(s) should get the prizes but if it is a team game, then I think the best performing team should get it. I dunno maybe others don't agree I would obv go with the majority but I would of thought I'm not alone in this. If it is 2 man teams and one team came 3rd and 4th and the team that actually won, his partner was the 1st one out in 384th place (or however many runners it is) then it completely goes against any "team" ethic
Personly for me, I would like to see the suggestion above or some other everyman for themselves tourney as I don't know anyone on here I could ask to be a 2 man team (sad billy no-mates I know) :(

HERE ARE WHAT I BELIEVE ARE THE GUIDELINES I will start a NEW THREAD TOMORROW NIGHT once people have had a final chance to respond to my guidelines) and we will go from there.
1) Two man teams - RANDOM DRAW (MOST VOTED FOR THIS) I will co-ordinate this on easysweep.com and we can watch the live draw on Thursday 20 January at 8pm!
2) Game to be played on a Sunday 23 January 2011. 8pm UK time (Sunday was requested and nobody obected)
3) Players interested in taking part must declare their EXACT poker alias by 8pm (UK Time) on Monday 17th January
3.1) Entry will be by ticket only (to stem the flow of non forumites raiding our value).
3.2) NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED - NO EXCEPTIONS (to stem the flow of non forumites raiding our value).
5) Winner of the tournament will win both seats for his team (if we go on an average score, then first to get knocked out will immediately have removed all hope of winning a seat for his team and then the team mate can spoil the game by going all in all the time as he will have nothing to play for)
6) If one team member does not show / play the freeroll and the one man band wins the freeroll, he will win both tickets and can choose what he/she wishes to do with it.
7) If the winning team actually attends and plays at the London Live event (and dont sell their tickets) I will ensure that at least $300 (£200) is paid to partcially contribute towards expenses. If Betfair dont agree to pay this, I will.

i dont think you can have ticket entry with a buy in. Using a buy in with password will ensure we have unwanted intruders.
If betfair can do a "ticket plus buy in option" then i will ask for a $10 buy in value supported by a ticket.

All sounds good. I'm not objecting at all and agree to everything, you obv put alot of effort to get this off the ground so nice 1. But just wanna point out that it is not stricly true about the first player out making it impossible for thier team to win. If there was 50 runners and team 1 had a player out in 50th and 2nd and team 2 had a player out in 48th and 40th, team 1 would still obv have the better average score and would win. Average score is the finish of each player divided by numbers of runners (I think) Just seems more of a team thing then if your choosing a team game
