I have been working with a company for last three months now and they have offered me a fantastic opportunity to run the whole Midlands area on a franchise type basis.
I need approx 10k to start it up (Includes buying the franchise and working capital )but don't have this and because of recent events with a previous company before Christmas don't have the best credit rating ( was ok before thou ).. Have approached banks etc but they cannot help because of credit rating.
The turnover per month would be at least 20k but probably higher and I have business pending which will return approx this over next three months also.
The company themselves have gone back to their bank In order to assist since they realise how successful this could be but they have only been able to reduce the initial costs down to the 10k ( was originally 20k),.. Bank has prevented them from pricing it any lower than this
How would I find someone to become a sleeping partner in this since I can run the whole thing and have the experience required to make a significant return on the initial investment.
I have seen the business plan for the franchise and the targets that need to be hit to sustain the venture and have nearly produced enough business in the last week to fulfil the quota for the month. ( Hence the 20k turnover will probably be lot higher.)
Is there any website where you can approach venture capitalists or private investors who would be prepared to at least listen to the proposals.
You shouldn't have too much trouble getting that kind of funding for a relativity small amount
Good luck and keep me updated

I'm as surprised as you on how guys on here have made offers to help but realise that it is all relative I suppose . To me and a lot of the people on here 1000 is hell of lot of cash but to others they might lose that in one night of drunken 3am poker or may be what they buy into a tournament with. (It still a hell of a lot of cash thou and still amazes me how this has gone)
I really only started the thread on here since I know the lads on here are pretty clued up on most things and have various occupations etc and experience in business. I was actually only looking for advice until dibs suggested the guys on here investing and Mandy mentioned it too..
I also spoke to mandy who gave me some great advice before he went away .
I always put things on the poker forum tbh since if you put this on chit chat it would fall off with all the garbage that gets posted on there :)
I have been on here for ages and have met a few off the forum at the POCCER tournaments but never really met anyone at the main poker games you guys run or attend since most of my playing was always done on line..
Some of the guys who have met me and could vouch for me are HONESTJOE, DON WARRO and another couple of guys who for the life of me cant remember their user names ..doh..!!
I have taken the advice ive been given by another forum reg on here and have altered the plan slightly to help make it clearer for the people looking into it..
The fact that you even thought about the other guys on here is precisely why I always post on here since you don't get the usual immature reply s that you would on chit chat or the footie forums...
shoot her in the face etc.. well not often :)
Thanks again
Sheriff

It was only that double post that i highlighted that that made me suspicious. I know you've posted on here regulary which is why i'd given it no thought untill then. In fact i was quite interested when you said you could give a £14K return on the £10K investment within 4 months :)
Anyway, if you are seeking advice from Dibbs/Carl then you are in good hands so i wish you the very best of luck with it.
:)

The reason they have to offer the business is because its all about area/territory...
Because quite a lot of it includes visiting client/customer in their home they need to have different franchise/agencies all over the country. They cant do that from where they are
Since they have seen the experience in this field I have, the contacts that they need and also having seen the volumes I have produced, they want me to get this as much as I do and did go back to their bank to tell them this, hence why they have been able to get this at 10k now instead of the 20k it was originally.
I did speak to them last week saying how would it work if I cant get the funding... The owner didn't even go into that... He said.. " We want you to get this"
Like I mentioned to JPJ , wouldn't blame people for being a bit sceptical but I've been on here years and some guys could vouch for me..
Regards Sir anyway..

Everything is up and running now, websites live, all new paperwork back from word-smiths and training in place for reps although half of them are ready to go already etc etc
The bank have agreed also to top up whatever I'm short but I thought I would give the guys on here a nudge if anyone else wanted to invest £500 or £1000 etc..

enji tells me that you said i'd advised you on this? ok, I think it's probably fair to anyone looking to invest that i didn't actually provide you any deep advice and nor did I see the revised plan.
here's the only piece of advice I gave you: "however, I'll give you the key bit of advice that I gave chop: where is the business plan? You need to be much clearer on the cost base, the return on your marketing investment and how likely (with evidence) you are to turn the initial set of claims into hard cash."
for the avoidance of doubt. I do not endorse the plan and, while I'm sure you haven't done it on purpose would be grateful if you'd not mention my name in connection with it in any way.
thanks and best wishes dibs

lol :D i have a reputation to protect!and I'm probably binning the law for a year at least. work is just too busy/tiring to give it the full attention.
so sorry dibs and anyone who may have been confused by when i mentioned dibs.
I appreciate all advice and that is actually all I was looking for from the forum originally since I know a lot of the guys on here have successful businesses already and are not the usual kind you get on chit chat or football forums sometimes etc
For the removal of all doubt, what I should have said was you gave me your opinion on it instead of advised me on it. My error entirely , it wasn't intended to mislead anyone, last thing I'd want to do.
Sad face etc :(

sorry couldnt resist. i just hope all the investors realise when you invest in a high risk short term business like this it is a high risk investment and they shouldnt be shocked if they lose their money. not saying they will but hope they do all realise this.

lol... ariston.... theres a gob stopper joke in there somewhere but i cant quite think of it..
I got the name from old guy i used to work with in factory... he was from up north and hard as nails even thou he was pushing 60..(face like a blind cobblers thumb ).. whenever us young lads started moaning about how hard the graft was, or how cold it was in winter etc he would always tell um "hey up lads...It's a press shop...not a sweetshop.."

Cases have been slower coming through than expected (solicitors waiting 14 days for cooling off periods and clients paying fees by cheque etc etc but are finally coming through. All investors were emailed today to explain what is going on and to give them an update and to let them know the state of play.
The poker tourney will still happen and I cant remember saying it was supposed to be held in may, if that was the impression I gave I apologise.
Like I've said before, with out these guys doing what they did I couldn't have got where I am at the minute. I have now got approx 15 reps in my team and they are submitting cases daily which again should assist in paying back the investments quicker than expected.
I also have numerous cases in the last stages so am confident I will be able to achieve this..
Regards Sheriff

it has gone rather quiet on this front... don't the investors want to tell us what a massive return they've made...
I know I'd want to rub the nose of the sceptics right in it...

it's a reference to me... but fret not davinchi. are you not in the least bit curious as to what happened? did any forumites actually invest money? if so, it would be polite to give an update to the forum but hey, what do i know.
if no-one else cares what actually happened to this £10k then fine, I'll cease & desist.

I'm interested but only because I'm a nosy git :) Plus I would've offered to invest if I'd been around when the thread was created (was on holiday at the time)

More or less left the site now. My hope is that the investors make that much money that they club together and buy BF1. We live in hope. Some more than others right enough.

I think 'scam' is a bit harsh. Very risky is how I saw it. When somebody asks for 10k/20k (whatever it was) via a poker forum it's got to be viewed as a last resort. Not a great sum of money and I'm sure that it could be raised through family/friends. Suggest's 'the well was dry' type of scenario. Anyways be good to know what happened.

Did anyone actually know sheriff personally or know who he were?
It may seem abit of co-incidence but there was a guy in manchester from months back at the G talking about fairly similar story and wanting an investment of 10k too up start his business!
Maybe a long shot but just sprung too mind maybe linked
