So you have had a chance tonight to grill the poker management at Betfair, now wed like to take the opportunity to turn the tables and ask you a question.
In our forum Q&A in January, we said that we would like to get another forum event going in the UK in 2010. We know there is interest amongst you to start this again, and we feel that getting a forum event going will be another way to get your thoughts on how well were doing and what you would like to see improved.
To help us make this a reality, we would like one of you to work with us to put this on and be the voice of the forum. Were looking for someone who can help get the forums feel for choice of venue, tournament structure, buy in etc.
If you are interested in helping us put this on, then please reply to this thread. Or if you would like to nominate someone you feel will deliver a cracking poker tournament for the forum, then again, please reply to this thread let us know your nomination. We will be on touch this week to get the ball rolling
Right sorry I didn't read the initial post properly. I thought it was for someone to channel complaints through.
If it is for helping organise events then Klup is definitely the man!

mostly because it seems this person that started the thread surely doesn't work for betfair, and is in fact, stackers!

No offence taken at all - I met mandylou in BFWCOP and think he organised a smashing event - very well organised
I personally would not head to the south coast for a game though.

Klup & Highstacks with Mandylou and/or Duffs as advisor, (I assume they are too busy anyhow, but they are probably the most qualified in truth). Systems for the pre party. Zelda obviously gets a shout, perhaps could do ladies day/teams.

I woulda said Duffs/Mandylou too as they've both run successful tourneys before, however I too don't particularly want to travel that far (as much as I'd love to go to the club etc) when someone else could organise one that could hopefull be more central (and nearer to me) to us all. Plus, Betfair doesn't like one of them now as he told them too many home truths :) and the other is just a baldy anyway :) So as Klup seems to be doing a lot of things atm he seems the logical choice.
Also, as reigning consecutive 2-time champion ( :) ) I 2nd systems for the pool / pee-up night.

afternoon all sorry im late replying but been a touch busy
if you see the other thread i did try and gauge if anyone was coming down to the forum £1k challenge on the 13th march but it seems the interest has wained a touch Obviously if betfair are keen to respond to the forums request of the forum game then i would be only too pleased to help , i have no objection if Klup wants to do it either and what could work would maybe a joint organisation between us with any imput from betfair /others more than welcome if we are going to make it a 2/3/4 day event then there is plenty that could be incoperated into the weekend - we have made a few improvements at the club icluding function room /bar billiards and table football so the indoor championship could be resurrected there is also various racecourses close by and paintball/golf /go karting to consider as well anyone got any dates in mind , are we looking at a couple of month away which would give time for everything to be planned correctly ? i dont have knowledge of anyone high up at betfair poker at the moment so if anyone could point me in the correct direction
any thoughts from Klup or others ?

Dream team done their events in birmingham and frankly - everyone I spoke to enjoyed it there. hotel close to casino and shopping mall.
I mentioned earlier - i personally would not travel to the south coast - would actually rather travel to scotland!
so i am inclinded to agree with flop it -
I recon this has to be mid country to be honest.Dream team done their events in birmingham and frankly - everyone I spoke to enjoyed it there. hotel close to casino and shopping mall. I mentioned earlier - i personally would not travel to the south c
we had one in brum a couple of years ago and a couple in london itself and a lot of players are southern based , cheap flights to Southampton available as well ,plus the last duffs homie had 60 turn up to basingstoke so i dont see travel as an issue , obviously myself and tony need to be at the club and wouldent be able to travel but its the forums game so as per usual majority should speak

I think that the 'package' that Mandylou and Duffs would put on, making it an event weekend would outwieght the distance issue.
Us 'Southerners' travelled up, now it's time to return the compliment.

Its a done deal by the looks - klups a landslide in the vote and he's nion stated its birmingham as he wont go south.
hoping for a little more err flexability in other decisions!

Mandylou is the man as far as I am concerned re forum games.
I have no doubt they would put on a great event.
However for the sake of keeping the peace why not have 2 events per year. One oop north and one darn sarf?

I do agree with Keith A ... Mandy is tried and tested and has delivered - a north and south game would also be fair.
Im a bit wet behind the ears, but its also my kind of thing to sort out events and i would make a real effort to make it happen.
I guess it all depends on betfairs budget!

I really hope more people show up than did the two times I have been to Duffs place. One event, never mind 2, seems a bit ambitious in the circumstances.

I enjoyed going to Duffs last year but once hotel, travel and poker buy ins are paid for it is a very expensive weekend. And it is a shame but just don't think there will be the turnout anymore :(

you only have to look at the oldest post on this forum to see that hardly anyone posts here any more. maybe that should read plays, all the same really. small community base will inevitably lead to small groups of participants at live events, whatever betfair say about the number of players online

As reigning champ... :) cue Snap... I would love to see the return of the forum game
Obviously Portsmouth is best venue for us Bournemouthians..but tend to just come up on the Saturday, personally I prefer the weekend away
Pros and cons from all previous venues, namely
Big Slick Croydon more personal venue, but hotel and nightlife further away
Brum...casino venue lost the intimacy ;) but hotel close and nightlife excellent
Whatever or wherever it is, I shall hopefully be there

wherever is chosen there will be a cost involved of travel and hotels to 90% of the people attending as we live all over the place
A lot of old faces have gone from here so either the site or forums in general arent as popular however even me and deejay can keep in touch via facebook so between us all ,everybody of the "old school"should be contactable via that medium and we only need a 30/40% take up to get the best part of hundred people if you you look at attendees over the previous years of forum meet ups and duffs homies, it could all be monitored and run from here
Venue is difficult BTW because you have to have the facilities for numbers and privacy etc - we would be ideal for this due to the re structuring we have done but obviously i am biased, however in all the other previous games i had to travel and never got the game in Ponte
Proper organisation of an event such as this is hard work with a lot of obstacles and i have no wish whatsoever to get in a me V klup debate on who is best placed to make sure its done correctly i think it would be better as a joint venture for certain reasons and having met dinos (?) i am sure we could get it right between us if you want to contact me for a chat off forum then you can get my e mail from most poeple and we can speak that way if you wish
Main thing to do would be to get some sort of list of possible/probable/definite attendees and then see if betfair want to help with it all and wether its worth doing it , obviously it would be a bit vague until we had a decision on venue and dates
my view on a couple of points brought upwherever is chosen there will be a cost involved of travel and hotels to 90% of the people attending as we live all over the place A lot of old faces have gone from here so either the site or forums in general
Here is the question that might solve a huge factor- will duffs house charge betfair for venue hire?
If not then maybe we can get betfair to invest that part of the budget in another area, possibly subsidies other costs - making for a better event?
if we can get a day at the races or a dog track in - maybe do some PR for betfair as well. sponsor a small race or something -betfair poker forum race- Surely we need to give something back to betfair so that they see some roi on these forum events.
Agree 100% with mandylou that this is not a personal comp.
BETFAIR PR poster - can you at least email me or mandylou direct with what budget/ ideas you had in mind before you started this thread?

Whilst i think you've made some excellent points i don't agree with this.
IMHO Betfair have let their poker and forum decline, losing a lot of old, good customers. If anything they need to get these sort of things back on track if they want any sort of poker comunnity which they claim to want/have. If i was an existing or past customer then i would feel that they 'owe' me in some way.
That aside, i hope you and Carl can get something going as Betfair will eventually be the benifactor.
:) :)

Its a circle mate - sometimes you got to speculate to accumulate.
All old and new players alike would be welcomed to the forum event.
if we are down at the races all sporting some Betfair Poker gear - we raising the profile of the betfair community. If we get it in a day before the forum poker event - it will also be opportunity to promote Duffs.
The forum and the platform both need a boost, and if we like / love / enjoy playing poker on betfair, then we too should advocate the positive elements (such as a forum event) with the same enthusiasm we do when we critise them.

If its a betfair event and not a forum one, they have used "The City Bunker" in Canary Wharf. DTD in Nottingham could be an excellent choice as well as its central and close to an airport with plenty of hotels nearby. Just 2 extra options to think of.
Any game needs to have Satellite's and a direct buy in through the poker software, I think previous forum games were missing this and numbers were never certain until the day of the game.
Finally, plenty of time is a must (for me anyway)

a forum game without carl organising it just isnt a forum game for me.
carl knows already the budget they have spent on past events which imo should not be discussed on an open forum dinos. most players at the first few forum games wont have even realised how much money it cost betfair to run them.
to have any chance of getting a forum game together I would say carl has to organise it not klup. you got enough on your plate with your site, wsop team events etc dinos and carl is running a venue which would be perfect for the get together and will already have all knowledge of local ammenities for golf/ pool/ bowling whatever. the fact they also have the heads up machines at the club will also help.
i vote carl and a game in portsmouth and will bring along a few of the old faces from up here with me.

ovalmans right - most important is getting a date with LOTS AND lots of time to spare.
the early and most successfull forum games over the years found early september was best, dunno why but always seemed more folk were free then - gives 6 months which imo is about right.

Ariston already the budget they have spent on past events which imo should not be discussed on an open forum dinos
I agree ... i did say email direct and never implied that it is for open discussion - i was just saying that if duffs ain't going to charge, then there could be room to invest money elsewhere. Which is a way of suggesting that carl can organise something there. As indicated ample times no objections whatsoever regarding carl organising this -
but it would be incorrect for me not to add that a fair few players have caught up with me at tables and on msn to say they dont want to go south. But the reverse has also been said and will be repeated.
ALSO A TEAM EVENT WITHOUT ARISTON wont be a team event either - so get a team together! We have 13 now and 2 more brewing (one from punters lounge and the other from former players on here that)

tell them to get there a$$es on the forum and voice there oppinions - only way this has any chance of success is if people actually post - no cliques/originals/newbies devides on here everyone welcome and all oppinions count imo.

As mentioned before it is imposible to please everyone over the venue issue , i remember one year we put up two venues and put it to a vote and it was almost 50/50 split so half of the punters were pi$$ed off before we start
we do have facilities and amenities down here to suit anything from a 1 - 4 day meet up for the hardcore and i can sort all those and hotels
Re cost , the main cost is providing dealers and food - in the past betfair have always covered those plus the room hire . we would sort dealers at hourly rate , food could be covered with buffets at virtual cost or meal vouchers given for our usual menu again cheaply and of course there wouldent be a venue charge
one year we did have a holding tank on here and had a big sattelite into it ,from my point of view i would have no problem in this happenning again - this way betfair get new customers opening accounts and we can plan better
Numbers were always approx 90% turn ups of those on the list
date - september was popular because most people werent on holiday (school hols finished) however as with the venue you will have some people it doesent suit whatever date you choose Maybe it would pay to go for glorious goodwood week as it then opens up options for a day out on the thursday/friday ? probably what would be best is have a good look at the poker calendar and work out available dates as you wouldent want to clash with and wsope, wsope, gukpt and possibly ept dates especially if betfair do intend to get involved
Team event again wouldent be a problem
again to answer a couple of points As mentioned before it is imposible to please everyone over the venue issue , i remember one year we put up two venues and put it to a vote and it was almost 50/50 split so half of the punters were pi$$ed off before
DTD isnt the only place in notts it could be held. Alea was used before for a Betfair event and that was amazing. There is always Circus casino in town as well that has a good poker room. Plenlty of options either way if it were in the midlands.

We have time to have something decent made ;) I could look into that as I have someone making my tops / jackets etc for my site.
As its a forum event, we can make our own stuff and stick duffs full house on the gear as well. If we are a group of say 30 or 60 at the races - we will be seen and heard.
If we combine it with a team event, and have the tops branded with our individual alias it could be good and we can get some banter in early.
Its not that expensive to do embroided tops - depending on the tops we choose, its only going to cost around £10 - 15.
My reasoning is, we all want the forum and poker skin to pick up again, so we should also try use an event like this to help raise the profile a bit.
This place is no fun if there is noone posting. Yes betfair have got flaws and yes most of the damage made is self inflicted.
But they are trying to get this community feel back so we should accept it at face value and do our bit too.
I seriously think there is some real good value on betfair at the moment and a lot of the promos in last few months have been great.
Credit where credit is due
Carl - my contact at betfair is out of office today, but soon as he replies, i will email you at you membership email address.

Klup V Mandy one way to settle this, is one to organize the southern section and one organize the north and then we could have the final in the midlands.I would like to join in but I will not be in the uk till 21st March. if any one pulls out around that date i would be happy to take their place

We will guage from there what we can arrange and sort something out.
Ideally a September timetable is on.
