EPT Berlin - Armed robbery?

EPT Berlin stop has just been robbed by five gunmen with machine guns. It is alleged that they have made off with 5 million euros from the poker tournament. One of the guards was injured trying to capture one of the robbers. It seems everyone is okay except for the guard who was injured in the head. Panic and chaos ensued throughout the tournament as seen in the video below.

all i know is its day 4. and an armed robbery just happened!!!

Lately there have been a lot of reports about home poker games being robbed by masked and armed men, but now the thugs have turned their attention to the bigger stages. EPT Berlin is the latest victim with over €800,000 being stolen and hundreds of people left shocked and in utter disarray. Below you can find the current rumours and details on the events which have taken place, as well as a video of people fleeing the poker room and pictures.

A rumoured gang of five masked men armed with guns and weapons suprised the three unarmed guards who were guarding the €800,000+ prize money. Questions must surely be asked at why only three guards were guarding such a vast amount of money, especially with none of them being armed. The gunmen are rumoured to have burst in and stole the money in the ballrooms of the Hyatt Hotel where the money was being held. There have been rumours that one of the guards captured one of the robbers and was involved in a struggle with him, with some rumours even suggesting the other gunmen went back for their accomplice and shot the guard (we must stress this is a rumour and in no way are we stating that this happened!).

Everyone at InternetPokerHub.com want to let all the players and staff know we are thinking of them and hope they can get over this shocking incident. We have spoken to a few players who suggested they will be leaving Berlin and unsure as to whether they will travel and compete in Europe again unless extra security is provided.

unbelievable this, tho not totally unsurprising, just glad everyone is ok, but with such huge sums of money floating around it was bound to happen and hopefully a lesson is learned, and security tightened in future

with few exceptions (USA) security at casinos is always woeful considering the cash that is behind the cages- the Vic has been robbed three times in two years with a security van being held up only 3 months ago

defo need better security when it must be such a soft target for gangs

Why did they ahve such a large amoutn of cash in a ballroom? It is insane. 'Europe'. good to see that the whole continent isn't being blamed for one hotel's failings!

Don't want to belittle what happened but having such huge sums in cash sitting around is typical of the bling culture that Poker wants to associate with, typified by the hideous rings they give out to winners.

I will never see a final table, never mind sit at one, but if I was I think I would prefer a cheque.

After a thorough investigation, Betfair poker has decided that there was no collusion involved in the incident, and that the lowering of balaclavas, the brandishing of machetes and the driving away of a stolen vehicle at high speed was merely coffeehousing.

Crazy why can't you buy in by card . Whats the point of having huge amounts of cash swishing around the place, when this sort of thing has happend before. Its just asking for trouble.,
