I'll be keeping an eye on the likes of Bianchi, Bird, Maldonado and Perez from GP2. At least 2 of these will be in F1 next year. Also my personal favourites Gutierrez and Haryanto for a few years time.

How old is Gary Paffett.....he seems to have been "tomorrows man" for about 5 years now...

I reckon he'll become the next Dario Francitti.....the big thing that never got the chance and he'll make a big name in DTM and end up in Indy Car or Mascar...

Late 20s i think, will be surprised if he ever gets a race drive now tbh. the sports moving towards younger drivers and he doesnt have the financial clout to force his way in.

end of day 1 times.

headlines of the day:-

Jean-Eric looks like the real thing, that's a good lap time from him even in an RB

Fabio Leimer is on sparkling form, his is the best performance of the day for me - the man is riding the crest of a wave, we'll see how close gutierrez gets to his time tomorrow....

Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey are not F1 race driver material and mclaren are comfortably the biggest team not testing a potential future talent - paffett is over 30, this is meant to be a YOUNG DRIVER TEST. just further incompetance from thickmarsh!

roll on tomorrow, this is far more interesting than the GP!

FYI it's actually pretty shrewd of McLaren, with Button tied up and the best driver on the grid Lewis Hamilton likey to stay for a while why pretend to test a young driver HTH.
