By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 08 Oct 12 10:11
Well done Kavvie for cracking one of the hardest.
Bassanio is correct in his Oaks winners and Snow Bride is a winner albeit it took the disqualification of Aliysa

Q14.Forty connects two Champion Hurdle winners
These are recent winners and think of anniversaries for the cryptic part of the clue.
Q22.Where most of us grew up in Aintree
Not a good clue but these are two Grand National winners that are connected by their sire, the leading sire before Vulgan.
By:
Bassanio
When: 08 Oct 12 10:44
I assume then that Ruby is the connection and it is Hurricane Fly and Rock on Ruby.

I don't deserve anything for that as was nowhere near it until that clue was given.

I was off down the road of Hardy Eustace and Hors La Loi thinking that Dean Gallagher and Conor O'Dwyer might now be 40 but that was wrong.
By:
Bassanio
When: 08 Oct 12 10:51
They are both by the same sire?

I know that Rag Trade and Hallo Dandy were by the same sire but that is after Vulgan.

Cottage sired a few winners but the names escape me and I am not resorting to looking them up.

By:

When: 08 Oct 12 15:58
You have it cracked Oufies Pal.
The Run For The Roses is the nickname of the Kentucky Derby, the original is the Epsom Derby so the answers are Derby winners, the floral connection is they are flower names.
Bassanio is a short head away from answering Q22.
Q25.These two revolutionaries fought out some Newbury finish.
The key word here is revolutionary,it can mean something that is turning but in this case it means rebellion.

14 Persian War Katchit Triumph hurdle winners who followed up in the Champion.
By:

q.26. distant view/ distant relative.
By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 09 Oct 12 07:43
Red is the colour of a revolutionary and the great Newbury finish was fought between Red Rum and Red Candle.
Well done Workrider you never let me down,I don't think I have ever posted one of these quizzes without you weighing in with at least one correct answer,I wouldn't be surprised if you were there that day.

Q1.Side by side Derby winners
The answers are geographical
Q22.We have already established that the answers are Epsom Derby winners that are named after flowers, sorry this clue is for Q21.
Q22. Again. We have already established that these are Grand National winners by the same sire who was champion before Vulgan
Q28.These two are Grand National winners and place names in Ireland they date back a good bit
Q29.The bet 365 Gold Cup used to be the Whitbread so the connection is alcohol, three Dubois answers
Q30.Men of my vintage will remember the ads of the sixties and the one for the bright beer was for Phoenix ale, that is the race, the two horses were trained by Aidan OBrien.

For Dubois read dubious.

By:
wildmanfromborneo
When: 10 Oct 12 11:00
Four more correct answers and finally we have got Q1 out of the way,so well done to the mercurial Icchantika.
Blakeney and Morston are two villages beside each other in North Norfolk, also the names of two Derby winners out of the mare Windmill Girl and were bred owned and trained by Arthur Budgett.
