only a few days to go to the big game, hopefully the cats wont win although tipp arent many peoples favourites either. tipp have the hurlers to win whether they blew their chance last year - they may have to wait for another year or two to let this kilkenny start to falter. they deserved an all ireland last year - they have dropped their level of intensity this year while kilkenny have risen it. waterford couldnt have played much worse in the semi and tipp did everything to keep them in it. shefflin or no shefflin - there will be only one winner imo.

1-10 Tipp 1-9 KK HT.

Tipp threw everything they could possibly plus one or two easy frees from the ref and still only a point in it, plus the breeze. Fair play to KK IMO.

Kilkenny must be a fair call at the same odds prior to match starting with that breeze. In the last 15 minutes that could tell a lot.
Report Anyska September 5, 2010 4:18 PM BST
the last 5 min killed tipp. i cant see tipp scoring enough against that wind. tipp will give them another 20 minutes but i think kilkenny will hammer them late on.
Report crespogol September 5, 2010 4:25 PM BST
I wouldn't read too much into the wind, in croker it's blustery and rarely totally favours either side.  I think kk at 1.45 are a super lay, they've been outplayed and whilst only 1 pt down at present, they're still behind.  Corbett has to really come into the game yet too.  I'm not saying that tipp will walk it, just that 1.45 in no way reflects how the game has gone imo.

Report thegalwayman September 5, 2010 5:26 PM BST
What are the benefits of a lap? The speech is a chance to thank those who contributed and pay tribute to the losers.
Report downallstar September 5, 2010 5:30 PM BST
That can be done at the dinners.
If they had the presentation, lap to the singing, to a full house would be a great atmosphere imo.

Was at the match today and without doubt the greatest sporting event i have ever attended, The rendition of galtee mountain boy was simply incredible. As raw an atmosphere as i have ever seen. Sensational.

On another note, how Padraic Maher was not on RTE team of the season is beyond a joke.

Apologies to most but for the benefit of the slow ones down the back.....

I am against pitch 'invasions'. I never intended to 'invade' the pitch yesterday or claimed I was going to do so. However I did strongly hope and tried my best (to clarify for those with the extreme imaginations, this involved joining an orderly queue and requesting on a number of occasions to be allowed onto the field) to be 'part of' the celebrations from the 'grass on the pitch'. My position has not changed from last week to this (even though I was 40m away from where I would like to have been yesterday).

In fact, the behaviour of the fans has reinforced my opinion that if the GAA simply requested that all fans stay off the field until the players and officials are in a cordoned off area that they would do so and that they would then enter in an orderly and safe manner that would give them the best viewing point for the presentation. Yesterday also showed that the stereotypical portrayal, on here and other places, of a GAA fan as a salivating yahoo of a wild man couldn't be further from the truth.

I was glad to see the presentation taking place from the Hogan Stand as this is a special privilige for a player. I'm also glad to see TGM holds certain traditions as important (fair play to Seán Ó Conghaile). It is a pity thought that the minor captains are no longer allowed to make speeches imo and that the decision makers prefer to blare out music before the cup is even handed over once Christy gives it the go ahead.

I was disapointed to hear that a prominent Tipperary club chairman missed the presentation as he had left his seat in the Upper Hogan to get an actual view of it being presented but he wasn't allowed to re-access any part of the ground and was forced to miss the whole event.
I'm sure the hierarchy would put this down to crowd control and health and safety considering their mute points regarding Jones Road but yet they encourage 81,000 people to attend the GAA museum after the game. Why is that I wonder?
Report thegalwayman September 6, 2010 11:20 PM BST
I believe your logic was that you could not invade something that you are part of. This was nonsensical when placed in the context of your argument so it is understandable that people chose to ignore it.

I like traditions that don't involve stampedes.

It would be too late at the dinners das. It is a fine time to recognise contributions and pay tribute to the losers. I am a major fan of the speech and won't be altering my view.
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby September 7, 2010 8:02 PM BST
Well said TGM.
Incredible hearing Pat Kerwick singing Galtee mountain boy and the crowd joining in. A hair raising moment, i'll never forget.

Had a good think about the speach issue - there are some good parts to them, the nod to the losing team, and the "Sam/Liam is finally coming home...." rousing part are worthy.

Its the thanking everyman and his dog - which could be kept for the dinner imo.
