At the risk of sounding like an absolute idiot, I will suggest that both An Cathaoir Mor and Major Finnegan are a lot closer to the main Irish hopes here than the betting suggests. I have no idea of their form relative to Take The Breeze but I will be backing both at double figure prices.
Report An Mhi January 23, 2010 11:04 PM GMT
The thing about sports lne is you have to trust trainer's high opinion of him. He has nothing in his chase form like others in the race, although i believe the two he beat in navan will with 2 or 3 races before the end of the season. I think they believe he's very good but the capt cee bee form is as solid as you will get and cathair mor and zaarito are likely to be right there. Cath mor won the race is a few strides the last day and is rapidly improving.

Its a race i would try to learn from rather than plough into
Report chopper636 January 23, 2010 11:08 PM GMT
Sports line and take the breeze both only know 1 way to run and that is to make all. I have backed Sports line but I am worried that these 2 could slit each others throats and set it up for Zarito. Any thoughts?
Report Prospero January 23, 2010 11:13 PM GMT
Major Finnegan is another likely front-runner to throw into the mix.
Report chopper636 January 23, 2010 11:15 PM GMT

an caothoir mor ticks the right boxes...had a proper run only a week ago so will be fit as a flee...would not be runnin in a grade 1 unless it would do itself justice, and would have a handy yardstick in sizing europe,
Report bobby.s January 23, 2010 11:26 PM GMT
Major Finnegan will snatch an early lead, Sportsline in hot pursuit followed closely by TTB, Zaarito and ACM will follow a few lenghts back.
Before 4 out TTB will push on will reel in Major, Ruby following AP's every move, Zaarito and ACM will keep within 4 lenghts.
Hit 3 out both up front are goin well but niggled at Major has ran its race Zaarito keeps closer orders tracked by ACM.
Aproaching 2 out Sportsline goes on TTB is joined by the cruising Zaarito ACM is pushed along to keep up.
Approaching the last Zaarito still crusing joins Sportsline and its a 2 horse race, Zaarito snatchs a lead at the last the race is over in a few strides wins comfortably and a new superstar has arrived!!
Report An Mhi January 23, 2010 11:31 PM GMT
The race will then suit an cathair mor/zaarito I think. Good point on the front running. I think sports line is suppose to be very head strong and if him and TTB go flat out on that ground its going to play into the hold up horses hands.

Just watched too Capt cee bee zaarito naas race. I think Zaarito will be very hard to beat
Report Prospero January 23, 2010 11:31 PM GMT

Report An Mhi January 23, 2010 11:38 PM GMT
prospero - if you look at naas run, he was finding off bridle with cee bee but couldnt reel him in, he galloped all the way to the line. That is serious form and the best on show in tomorrows race as cee bee would have won well last day bar a fall and is arkle fav and correctly so. If you look at this through the form book he is value at 3's

To back up An Mhi's comments there CCB snatched a 2 lenght lead at the last on Z and ACM as both made msitakes and both were very slow away from the fence so the 2 lenghts was more like 3 imo Zaarito got within a neck ACM 5 lenghts back.
ACM was very well backed that day, Zaarito to put 5 lenghts into ACM in a furlong was very impressive imo

Interesting point of view here lads..

AN CATHAOIR MOR SHOULD GO FOR ARKLE AT LEOPARDSTOWN

Sprint finishes are more common in races for novices than in those for experienced chasers. Sp it was disappointing but not that surprising the runners went off at a very modest pace in a good 2m 1f novice chase at Fairyhouse.

In fact the leader Cousin Vinny reached the halfway stage 10.3 seconds later than the leader did in the Normans Grove Chase over the same distance one race earlier. He picked up a bit from there but still reached the fourth last 15.7 seconds later than they did in the Normans Grove. It was only from the fourth last that they really started racing properly, and they got from there to the finish line 3.4 seconds quicker than they did in the Normans Grove.

Thanks to the fact they were sprinting, the finish turned out to be rather a scrappy, tight affair. And it's clear the winner AN CATHOIR MOR (10) would have won more clearly if the pace had been stronger and he hadn't been forced to switch quite dramatically when short of room running up to the last.

For such a big horse An Cathoir Mor certainly found a good turn of foot to get up on the line. He'd appeared set to win a shade comfortably until his jockey suddenly realised there wasn't much of a gap for him to jump on the inside just a few strides before the last.

One good thing about the sprint finish is that it means the race cannot have taken much out of An Cathoir Mor. So it looks like a good idea for him to come out again in the Arkle at Leopardstown this weekend, especially when you take into account what his trainer Henry de Bromhead has said about him. A year go he told reporters "He's a bull of a horse who takes a savage amount of work." And more recently he said in connection with going for this weekend's big race "if there is one horse in the yard you could run twice in a week it's him as he seems to take his racing well."

Last time out An Cathaoir More looked to be going just as well as Captain Cee Bee and Zaarito two out when upsides that pair in one of the fastest novice chases of the season. But he made his only mistake when hitting the last and lost a lot of momentum to finish third. He still earned a pattern class speed rating from me.

It could very well be that An Cathaoir Mor blew up through lack of fitness in that race too seeing how hard he is to get fit. In this regard it's interesting to note that he's failed to win in seven starts before the turn of the year but scored four times out of five between January and March. My best guess is that in a truly run race and with a clear run at the last he'd have earned a rating of around 38 from me for this win. That puts him in with a real shot in the Arkle at Leopardstown.

Jock ?

I can't see any reason why this fella's not favourite the other 2 are priced up on potential alone.

ACR - great ride yesterday, won't go useless it bottomless, also stablemate.
Sportsline - I thought he ran very well for on his 2nd chase start(in a G1), set the race up for the winner, being by Norwich you'd expect him to like better ground. He def goes for the Arkle, and although he's up against it, i'd give him a place chance.
