I just purchased a pack of rolos - something I've not done for about 20 years as I wanted to see if they were as good as I remembered.
Well, I thought the pack looked a little shorter than it used to but anyway , I ate one. Ate another , and another . Then thought there arent many left in the packet, and there were 3 left.
6 measly rolos in a pack.
Talk about shrinkflation - a pack / tube of rolos used to be long and you eat a couple , offer them round and have a long tube left for next time.  Not now.
6 in a packet.  And I think they are different to how they used to be.
Didn't seem as chewy.  You used to be able to chew the caramel / toffee , now it was gone in one bite.

Has anyone experienced a non horse related sweet / chocolate disappointment recently ?

I think I'm going to have to go back tomorrow and buy something else  and work my way through a list of my childhood favourites !

Think Mars was one of the first to start this scam when they started putting Believe on the wrapper , advertised at the same price but no mention of the shrinkage.

Wife just tole me that Munchies are similar to Rolo in that there's far less of them.

Worst value ever though is a bag of crisps , most expensive fresh air on the planet  Grin

I had a Toffee Crisp the other day. It bore no resemblance to a Toffee Crisp from 50 years ago

Harden that's funny as I was looking for a packet of munchies originally but couldn't find any hence landed on the rolos. Thanks for the heads up, I won't bother looking again.
Your crisps comment made me laugh as my kids keep opening bags and saying daddy daddy look there are only 'x' many in the packet.

TTtiger, another one that has been changed.  Though You've made me curious nzw, I'm going to have to buy one and try it.

years ago there were these sweets I used to buy my kids when they were young, fizzy chewy things about the same size as opal fruits and about a dozen in the pack roughly the same size as the opal fruits, probably about 8 inches in length the pack ,anyway years later  when my kids had got older about secondary school age my son brought a new pack home and the pack was about the same size but they had put the sweets side by side and instead of getting 12 you got 8 .....Laugh

This seems like a great experiment to undertake, and or / a good excuse to buy lots of different chocolate bars.

This needs to be a joint effort undertaken on the forums' behalf in order to compile an official list of the top ten choccy bars.

If anyone criticises our fatness we just say we were doing it for the greater good.

I quite like the idea of this ExcitedGrin

Didn't every sweet seem bigger when we were all kids?

Or maybe companies did shrink them (I know that's also true)

Bit of both sadly in changing our experiences of sweets - then again, at our age we also probably shouldn't be eating them for our health reasons too Laugh

have a look at those quality st and roses tins of chocs you got many years ago about 8-10 inches deep ,now they are plastic and about 4 inches deep ,plus they have changed the wrappers on the chocs and they are in kinda like little air filled packets so they take up more room in the tin/box and you get  even less .

Wagonwheels used to seem like they were the size of a steering wheel when I was a kid
Don't know if that's because my hands were smaller
(that could apply to other things as well)

Agree that crisps are the biggest con
And what about these "fun size" chocolate bars
Gone in one bite... Where's the fun in that?
Report Regbutler September 12, 2024 9:27 AM BST
Just remembered another one...
Got my grandson a sherbet fountain from a retro sweet shop near me
The sherbet came about a third up the tube
What a con

The Chunky Kitkat. I used to love this plenty as a student. But, I do not think it's the same Chunky Kitkat I used to know. anymore. It seems to be lacking the crunch for some reason. I also think it's not as thick anymore. Maybe this is the reason for its lack of crunchiness.

Callard & Bowser's butterscotch were the nuts.

They came wrapped in thin silver foil and were a bit pricey compared to other sweets but worth the expense. If I was broke, as a youngster, then I seem to remember half inching them on occasions.
