3 declared runners and one of them from Ireland. The week before York  so surely rich pickings for some shrewd yards with their up and comers, no thanks apparently.
You can often criticise courses for not making the effort, not on this occasion. Game's going down the plughole quicktime, BHA barely looking up from their free lunches. Sickens me to the core to watch the sport wilting slowly before our eyes.

spot on SS. A disgrace. And yet there is a field of 25+ in the sales races when half of them are 66/1+ and couldn't place if they started 2 minutes b4 the rest. As a small syndicate owner (not qualified for this race my horse) I would be livid. Especially if it was a filly!

Forecast going was good/firm but we have had some rain overnight here in Somerset about 30 miles away. It is another nail in the coffin of pattern races at Salisbury though.
Report roggrain August 14, 2024 12:57 PM BST
So a runner could be 3rd by 30 lengths and get black type! (and pick up £4304 for the exercise!).
Report roggrain August 14, 2024 12:59 PM BST
Also 6 races only. If they ran a 6 race card anywhere else on the planet no one would show up!

I'm watching but keeping my Betting bank ready for York

Easy solution. Less horse racing which would give less opportunities and therefore increased field sizes
Report barstool August 14, 2024 1:46 PM BST
Interesting little race nonetheless.

Maybe the outsider of three?

Bookmakers would love it.

the media keep saying horseracing is on its last legs, yet a forty grand race attracts only 3 runners. There are plenty of horses rated 60 and under that
their ownwers are happy to pay to keep in training. Plenty of horses are being bought for over 200k ! The one area I think money leaves the game is the sales
arena. I woder how much Goffs,et al are taking out of the game .

Too right, blunder. About time there was a redistribution of prize money in our sport.
Report stu August 14, 2024 2:12 PM BST
Agree barstool - still an interesting race, as market is showing with uncertainty - I'm laying favourite, just on value as both others could be very decent.
Report CagliariG August 14, 2024 2:24 PM BST
Blunder, how do you work out that the sales are taking money out of the game? The vendors/ breeders benefit and the purchasers then contribute via training fees etc so the sales actually generate income for the sport regardless of any profit they make.

Same as football. It's all about the money, honey! Distribution of wealth is screwed in this country. Try not to give your hard-earned to these rich business people, or at least really think about who you want your money to help!

Parthenon for me. I wonder why he's not odds-on with Moore onboard too.

Clearly Luther cannot win this horse race.

Could not be more wrong. The slow boat traded at 1.5 but finished very last of 3. What a wasted trip?

The O'Brien dog looked a horrible thing, head high, tail all over the place
Report impossible123 August 14, 2024 3:35 PM BST
Well done backers. Thank-goodness the jolly was not a price boost. It'd have been more painful, if so.
Report sageform August 14, 2024 3:36 PM BST
Money following reputation again. Coolmore, O'Brien, colours so must be a Group horse. But the winner had the form in the book. Sea of Roses for the double in an hour.

3rd surely needs deep ground?
Report sparrow August 14, 2024 3:42 PM BST
Sage, I always think you need to respect the Balding stable at Salisbury right back to a certain Mill Reef making his debut here.

Trident you could be right but why do you think he needs an excuse? He might just be well behind the other 2 in ability. Sparrow, Salisbury has always been the Balding back yard. Ian was a director there once he handed over the training and I remember Passing Glance winning a Group race there as well as many other stable stars. Jeff Smith is also a director and if Balding and Smith have a runner there, look out. Today might not be outstanding form as Luther was closing all the way.

Not one of Oisin's best rides. How on earth did he expect to win from last place?
