Had a walk next door to Sir Mark Prescott stable, the green doors were open to the yard, i never went in as i wouldn't want someone wandering around my garden without permission , my wife and i just had a walk around the entrance where the tablets are on the walls telling us all the great horses that were trained there since 1862, and another about Spindrifter on the other side of the entrance, from what i could se, it was absolutely beautiful. so well kept. I'd love to have a proper look one day
What was the hotel like? I've gone past it a lot and often wondered.
You can visit Mark Prescott's stable this year as he's - reluctantly- opening on Newmarket Open Weekend Sept 21-22.. The Sunday is for visiting the stables. They take turns now year on year off, so one year they open, the next year they can opt out.
Parking is easy down the Hamilton Road on the grass verges, lots of stables open there. Crisford's etc.. buy tickets in advance from the jockey club website, or pay on the day. We had a great time last year.

The hotel was nice Smoky, Nothing Glamorous but ideal for the Gallops and Heath House and Albert House stables the other side of the Hotel,They had a nice bar and a Chinese buffet , i don't know how much it was as my friend paid for it, as it was his
smoky, I've been staying in it for 15 years. Very good indeed. Some of the rooms are a bit funny as you have windows which look out onto a corridor, not the outside. But priced commensurately. They have a restaurant which does great a breakfast. Evening meal if you wish - very reasonable "pub grub +". Big bar. Racing on if you ask. 50 yards from warren Hill. The Rutland Arms has long gone now and this is really the only "proper" hotel in town centre (the rest are pubs or Premier Inn).

The Hotel was nice smoky, nothing glamorous, but great access to the gallops 100 yards away. Albert house stables is the other side of the Hotel. The staff were very friendly and i'd recommend for a short stay, lots of photos of Saeed Suhails horses as i believe he owns the hotel.

I visited Sir Marks stable with the Racegoers. He met us and personally did the tour. At the end he stood outside and shook everyones hand and thanked us for visiting. Class act.
