Both of them need each other to survive ,and they both get stronger when they work together, but which is the boss in your head.?Which is the most important when gambling.?i think they are related.i wonder which came first, when you realized you needed both of them to be a successful gambler.Laugh

Some gamblers go into a bookie office, and they have'nt got a clue what they intent backing before the open the door of the shop.
They go in and expect something to jump out at them "ahhhhhhhhhh there is Ryan Moore riding a 1/2 shot.i back that.Crazy

Knowledge, Guts and Discipline are the trinity for any sucessful gambler.

Some have one, some have two but very very few gamblers have all three.

And biggest downfall for the majority of gamblers is Discipline as you rightly state Brass.
Report brassneck June 8, 2024 10:58 PM BST
And then they look up at the Bookies notice board and it reads "SPECIAL TONIGHT ,LEEDS TO BEAT HULL ON 90 MINUTES 1/2,"
"And they say to themselves"i will have some of that LEEDS @ 1/2"Laugh
And 10 minutes before hand they did not know Ryan was riding a 1/2,and did not know Leeds were playing.
And that's the average punters way of gambling,
NO PATIENCE , NO DISCIPLINE,and they expect to win gambling.

MAC,many years ago there was a guy named SCHALKE 04 who use to post very interesting threads.
One night he posted that "the most dangerous to do a bet is when you are after winning a big lump of money"
and that information alone will serve a gambler well.
"how many times has a gambler told you he was winning a good few hundred at 2.30pm and was broke at 5.30.pm.
and we all make the mistake of thinking it easy to win when we are in profit.
And punters only listen when they are losing.
its a crazy world.Devil

Patience is about what you do before you start placing bets, discipline is about what you do after the bets have settled.

That's my rough definition of it at least.
Report Hayden June 9, 2024 10:57 AM BST
Patience and discipline sound fine but shouldn't get in the way of taking every strategical opportunity when it presents itself.

I've gone a few days totaling a handful of bets on occasions and then found myself having over a dozen the day after because the opportunities suddenly appeared being totally dependent on what the race cards give you.

I don't have either, lost count of the times I have thrown away huge profits because I felt I was robbed on a photo etc, I get put on tilt so easily. 35 years of gambling and I still have no discipline.
Report stu June 9, 2024 12:31 PM BST
I have spent many younger years without either too, and it's been a gradual process of getting better at it, until these days I hardly have to think about it too much - I will sigh a lot when losing, but that's about it - just a good walk sometimes to get over annoyances. And never looking to win back money immediately in large amounts and stakes. I spent too many years doing that in the past.
Report brassneck June 9, 2024 1:00 PM BST
lets say you back fifty quid on a loser.your mind will tell you that you need to get the fifty quid back .This is the time that patience and discipline fly out the window. The average punter starts chasing his fifty quid straight away relying on luck.A guy with good patience and discipline will sit and think about his loss and plan his attack to recover fifty quid.
The point i make is that a guy can develop good patience and discipline is he plays the gambling game slowly.
but he needs to sit down ,have a cup of tea ,and have a serious think about his bad gambling habits."they can be corrected by thought alone"Shocked

Yesterday I did my usual thing of deciding early what races I wanted to study, then whittled each down to a shortlist of horses I might be interested in in each one. Eleven races produced just one bet in one of those races. But in seven of the eleven races the shortlist included the winner. I happened to land on one of them. It could just as easily have been a loser. So although I made a profit on the day, I'm sat there staring at six winners that I could have backed. Patience and disciple in spades, but was I brave? I ask myself how I felt? How would I have felt if the one I'd backed lost? (Plenty of experience of that scenario). The answer to that question is all important when it comes to long term profitability.

One of the secrets is knowing that the race cards aren't prepared for punter convenience , so the next 14 horses you should back personally that fit your selection criteria are unlikely to be 2 each day for a week , just as likely to be 5 blank days , 2 on another day and a dozen on the remaining day , controlling that mindset is a test of patience and discipline in itself.

So i give you all the 90 day challenge.
1=get a quid
2 =double it 15 times.
3=that's giving you 6 days to select each bet.
4=£20,000 awaits you after 90 days and you have 6 days to double each stage.
5=if things go pear shaped you lose £1.
now thats fun.Grin

Patience, you’ve got to put the hours in, to be really successful it’s a full time job and more, I’ve found a system that does need patience but I don’t put the hours in but it does make a profit  maybe a few bets a week laying not backing and I have the odd win bets when the draws are in my favour, my biggest bsp was yesterday 200/1 draw bet, think that’s once in a lifetime outcome
Report comingupthehill June 9, 2024 3:22 PM BST
The biggest problem is patience, discipline v guts.

You’d never have a bet if you wait for perfect conditions has every bet has risks attached.

Your strongest selection will probably lose, then with discipline, why risk your 4 th strongest selection compounding the problem.

There’s always tomorrow, racing never ends.the opposite to that,is. Your first bet wins,so you bank the profit, then sit and watch 3 more bankers win.

So you can put hours in to identify a good bet,it loses, then a hunch bet in the next wins.

That’s why it’s the hardest game.
Report brassneck June 9, 2024 3:35 PM BST
try this system to test patience and discipline.
ITS CALLED GRAB A GRAND'
1=GET £10
2=ROLL UP THE £10 FOR SEVEN DAYS
3=ONE BET EVERY 24 HOURS ON AN EVEN MONEY SHOT.
4 =IF YOUR SEVEN SELECTIONS WIN YOU WILL HAVE £1280 NEXT SUNDAY.
5 =ITS A GREAT SYSTEM FOR TESTING PATIENCE AND DISCIPLINE AND YOU WILL FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE STEEL BALLS.Grin

The David ashworth system.

So basically.

10 win Monday.lose.
Watch some box’s sets till next Monday
Repeat, then maybe have a bet on a Tuesday.

So Cheltenham,Chester,York,ascot pass you by.

Good system if have no interest in horse racing.
Report comingupthehill June 9, 2024 4:00 PM BST
Brass neck, how long should one spend finding an even money shot each day.

Others say,you need to put the hours in.so how many hours to turn 10 into 20.then 20 into 40.

Then lose.wait 5 days,then try again.

I reckon you’d probably get it up once every 10 years.

This sounds like a great system to help people stop gambling.youd spend so long waiting for the next Monday, you’d probably find another pastime.

YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN EVEN MONEY SHOT UP IF YOU LIKE.
eg. a horse to be placed
eg.a team is a player down.
eg a 1/2 +1/3 =1/1
but you must bet every 24 hours and stop as soon as you double your money .you need discipline and patience to complete the seven day test.
its rich rewards if you are successfulHappy
Report comingupthehill June 9, 2024 4:18 PM BST
So basically 5 mins research.

So then sit back and enjoy royal ascot on itv,cos your Brazilian under 21 s reserve game was 0.0.passing the day waiting for trap 6 not to place at Sheffield the next day.

Or do you think, that the even money shot at royal ascot will lose, cos the 10/1 shot looks to have a great chance,
The 10/1 shot wins by 5L.whilst you cheer the even money shot coming 4th.
Your day is over,so start to look for your next even money shot tomorrow.

You actually spend more time having a piss each day than on this system, and probably get more relief or fun out of it.
Plus if you piss in the same pot,you could sell your piss to clothes makers to burn the hairs of their hides,so it might actually make your more profit over the long term.

and most of that 8% are bookmakers.ShockedShockedShocked

Yes,none or a tiny few win.unless traders,bookies etc.

But I think getting a job,or selling stuff on eBay, is a better way to make a profit ,than your 5 mins a day, wait a week if lose on Monday system.

It basically has nothing to do with gambling, has you’d have so little interaction with betting that it would be pointless doing it.

Serious gamblers you say.laying a dog at 11am at Sheffield to not place, then letting royal ascot and the euros play out, whilst you wait for another even money shot.

You’d never back a horse or lay one, there’s got to be easier even money shots.

Your system might be better daily,7 even money shots.

Serious gamblers who want to make money gambling ,

To this I'd add another vital element - a betting bank. Large enough to accommodate your chosen level of stake x LLR.

Without a racing bank any idea of making a profit is a pipedream.
