Long story short they have associated it with money laundering which I play no part of or they would have closed my account.

We at Barclays have become increasing concerned about
your deposits to betfair.Although betfair have stated
that you are a master of aftertiming, sadly your p&l

the decision to put restrictions upon your account before
the inevitable happens and you go kapoot.
We have noticed you occasionally become obstreperous

Got the dreaded letter...:(

As you use your account to pay in cash, we wanted to let you know fr‌om ‌1 July 2024, we’re introducing a maximum £20,000 cash limit you can pay into your personal accounts each year. This will restart each January.

If you have more than one personal account with us, this means the total amount of cash you can pay in across all of them is £20,000, including any children’s savings accounts.

This doesn’t include cash you’ll pay into any business current account you might have.

If you run a business but don’t have a separate account for it and need a higher cash deposit limit, search ‘Barclays business banking’ to find out more about our business accounts. It’s important to keep your business and personal accounts separate.
Why we’re doing this

The National Crime Agency estimates that over £35 billion has been laundered in the UK. Introducing our cash deposit limit will help us fight financial crime.
For joint accounts

Any cash paid into your personal joint account counts towards the yearly cash deposit limit for each account holder.

Here’s an example of how the limit would work if you have a joint account and a sole account with us:

If you or the person you’re sharing your account with pay £16,000 cash into your joint account, you’ll both have £4,000 cash remaining to pay into your joint or sole account for the rest of the year

Any cash you pay into your sole accounts will only count towards your own cash deposit limit and won’t affect the limit for anyone you share a joint account with.
Post Office limits

There’s already a £10,000 cash deposit limit at the Post Office, which will still apply. Any cash you pay in at Post Office branches fr‌om ‌1 January 2024 will also count towards your yearly cash deposit limit of £20,000.

This means fr‌om ‌1 January 2024, you could pay in £10,000 at Post Offices and fr‌om ‌1 July 2024, up to £10,000 in our branches each year

Or you could pay in all £20,000 in our branches, but then nothing at a Post Office.
How your cash deposits count towards your limit

When you pay in cash at one of our branch counters or self-service devices, it’ll count towards your overall cash deposit limit.

When you pay in cash at a Post Office, it’ll count towards both your overall limit and your Post Office limit.

We’ll also let you know when you’re near your limit. For help setting up notifications, search ‘Barclays free alerts’.
If you need help

To see other ways to receive money into your accounts, search ‘Barclays pay in cash’.

If you need more help, search ‘Barclays contact us’ to see how you can get in touch.

Your Barclays team

Presumably to prevent money laundering, but mightily inconvenient if you need to legitimately move a lot of cash around for some reason.
