Not only coping with abondonments due to waterlogging i reckon crowds must be badly down on expectations

Market Rasen looks empty today.

More finanacial pressures on racecourses?

Who wants to stand out all day in this weather, only the poor bookies who have to turn up.
Report Ramruma April 10, 2024 3:53 PM BST
I'm pretty sure that bad weather explains Cheltenham's falling attendances better than domination by Willie Mullins. Paying through the nose to be cold and wet gets boring after the second or third year.
Report hulk23 April 10, 2024 3:58 PM BST
£34 to get in seems quite reasonable

Adult Admission
Race card
Red Rum Meal Voucher with Hot Drink
Pint of house lager/beer
Report jimnast April 10, 2024 4:43 PM BST
I would say definitely the dragon it’s certainly cut my days back quite considerably it’s not just getting cold and wet it’s the added dangers on the road.
Report jimnast April 10, 2024 4:45 PM BST
Ramruma

The domination of Mullins has been a poor excuse the majority who go the first 3 days just want to see the best horses and if Mullins has all the best horses so be it.

Student race day. Take out the students and there wouldn't be many there.

Report jimnast April 10, 2024 5:00 PM BST
Yes jumper I know it’s student’s race day I merely posted it as I thought it was coincidental when discussing small crowds I looked up and couldn’t believe what I saw.

7 million families are struggling to pay their bills. Similar amount of people missing repayments that'll hit their credit rating.
11% of adults have no disposable income.

JC announces 1.5 million cut in prize money, blaming Cheltenham attendance as a contributory factor.
Spaffed gawd knows how much trying to get Sunday evening racing off the ground during lean times only to find the only people interested are a handful of degenerate punters and old farts sat in their armchairs picking the fluff out of their navel.

We've been treated like cattle on racecoures since the year dot, getting royally fleeced into the bargain.Sad

And most of them seemed dressed for a nightclub rather than a racecourse.
Report Cider April 10, 2024 6:22 PM BST
leif, the first part of your post is typical liberalist trope. those same people don't appear to have an issue giving ronald mcdonald their custom, or mr uber, mr apple, or mr sky

most people who have no disposable income also have no inclination to earn an income (or visit a racecourse as a paying customer)

it's spot on jim, the amounts handed out on welfare nowadays are eye watering. but the old socialists still like to bang the drum about people supposedly living on dripping and a cold bath once a week.

reality is that it's a different world to when I grew up, and there is work for anyone who wants it. Minimum wage is now £11.44 an hour ffs, and the are jobs in abundance.
Report jimnast April 10, 2024 6:41 PM BST

Does the minimum wage specify a higher rate for overtime/weekend work? Genuine question. I doubt if many employees work more than 37 hours a week. Self employed of course work 70 hours and still can't cope with demand.

I was in Leopardstown today Jimnast and one of the security guards came up to me and said she was told they were expecting 7,000 students but she said it was more like 12,000 . My Granddaughter appeared after the 4th race and said she couldn't believe how long it took to get in and it cost 30e , she is in Collage but surely that's far to dear , talk about encouraging newcomers doubt many will be back at those prices ,for what was a rubbish card full of odds on shots . Shame on Leopardstown for charging so much....

No, but there are A LOT of mandated workplace entitlements. Auto enrolment, holidays, banks holidays, maternity/paternity and so on. Maternity is now huge, my place is six months on full pay AND accruing leave. So that's another month, and they still get full salsac contributions.

Bingo!

I don't mind admitting my disposable income is at an all-time low. I've had the highs and lows in life, particularly with finances. Life is just about ups n downs, isn't it!

Imaging winning every bet ? The fun for me would be gone.

I refuse to pay Racecourse prices and add to their shareholder profits. They don't care about US, they only care about  shareholder profits. Time for us All to vote with our wallets. You will feel better for it in the Long Run!
