Having to give personal details to Bookmaker's to have a bet/widraw funds is having a dramatic affect on how the sport is funded !!
This is without question, an infringement of people's rights to privacy, and how THEY SPEND THEIR MONEY !
Personally, the Gambling Commission, and there lack of understanding of the industry ( they are totally obsessed with ''money laundering'' ) have had a massive downturn in betting turn over ! There almost ''blackmailing'' of the ''big chains'' to comply, or have there licence's removed is having a grave affect !
I have a friend who's husband ( great candidate (sic), no expereience whatsoever of betting, or how the Levy works ) is ex RAF, and she tells me they spend most of there day trying to criminalise people for money laundering !
Our parliamentarian's for the most part aren't interested ! RACING AS WE KNOW IT... WILL NOT SURVIVE UNLESS THE POWERS THAT BE ADDRESS THESE MATTERS URGENTLY !
So this is what they should do.Every race course should purchase a state of the art ambulance for their race course. When there is no racing at their course they can rent their ambulances to the health board for a grand a day.
This will give every race course hundreds of thousands of pounds each year. And everyone will say "thank god for the racing industry ,they save thousands of lives every year supplying Ambulances. THANK GOD WE HAVE HORSE RACING THAT HELPS THE NATION ON A DAILY BASIS.AND SAVES LIVES.

And, I know the total is up by 2.5%-3%, but inflation has been between 6-8% !
The poor prize money at the lower ends of the sport mean it's not financially viable. More owner's syndicates appear to be the way forward.

Govt has told racing and bookies to agree a new levy arrangement that offsets money lost through affordability checks (primarily media rights payments). Bookies want to make increased payments for promoting racing better which sounds sensible in the long term.
Funding has been a problem as long as I've followed racing (40 years). Some periods it's been better than now some a lot worse eg in 2011 Class 6s were worth 2500 and class 5s 3500. They're worth 2 to 3 times that now and inflation was not 100-200% over that period. Killer now is that other countries are well ahead and taking owners away.

If the bookie's have to pay more they will add that cost to the punter. Then the Levy yield will fall again.
Racing betting is on a spiral staircase, downward, unfortunately.

Race courses have a big part to play, the costs at this years Festival were scandalous !
If they made their pricing reasonable, I believe attendances would go up appreciably !
And, perhaps Cheltenham should revert back to a three day meet for the Festival.
