It’s a funny old game not that long ago we had a July cup winner which had previously finished last of 8 finisher’s over 2 mile 1 furlong around cartmel.

Sounds a bit ominous, Group 3 winner on the Flat, part-owned by The Queen, being sent up to Sedgey for its hurdles debut? Hmmm.

Mind, that said, who can name the last horse to win a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield and then win a Grade 2 on its next start?
Report jimnast February 7, 2024 9:51 AM GMT
Great question george my guess would be the great brindisi breeze but it is only a guess .

Look forward to the answer
Report GEORGE.B February 7, 2024 10:41 AM GMT
jimnast, we're not going to need to Ged for this one, as it's fairly recent. McTigue for that miracle worker Emmett Mullins, who won a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield before going on to win the thick end of £60K in a Grade 2 at Auteuil in October 2022.

Scriptwriter, won Grade 2 nto, on 12 Nov '22 at Cheltenham.

The one before that was Mahler Mission who won a Grade 2 nto, on 29 Jan '22 at Doncaster.

Sir John Chippendale "Chips" Lindley Keswick (born 2 February 1940) is a British merchant banker and member of the Keswick family who control Jardine Matheson, founded by William Jardine. He was chairman of Arsenal Football Club from June 2013 until his retirement in May 2020

Very few Sea the Stars progeny with the dams by Sadlers Wells have won on GS/S ground over hurdles rated over 100/110, this horses dam only ran over 7fs/1m on flat and best on Good/GF ground, hasn't had a runner over hurdles before either.
Schmilsson itself has only ran on easy flat racecourses over hurdles and has been readily outpaced and may well find Sedgefield t0o stiff a course as well.  Am tempted to lay both for a small loss in the hope there could be an improver amongst the horses that ran decent bumper races or ptp.
