We've made a change!

We’ve improved the way our Deposit Limits work!

The limit you set on your account has been updated to reset on a calendar basis, and take into account withdrawals as well as deposits.

For example: If you have a limit of £20, deposit £10 and then withdraw £5, your remaining limit would be £15.

Report zipperdidoda November 23, 2023 8:02 AM GMT
I received mssge too sparrow
Report zipperdidoda November 23, 2023 8:06 AM GMT
if you make withdrawal it's added to what you can deposit. i think
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 8:29 AM GMT
Obv only for those who have an already agreed deposit limit/time period.

So what have they changed, I thought that was how it worked anyway?
Report zipperdidoda November 23, 2023 8:35 AM GMT
seems it wasn't.
but i never intend to reach the limit anyway.
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 8:36 AM GMT
What has changed is a supposed limit reset on December 1st.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 8:37 AM GMT
That’s not what I read in the tc’s when the policy was explained to me by somebody who has the imposition.

It always reset the following month I believe.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 8:38 AM GMT
Did you think it carried over sparrow?
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 8:39 AM GMT
If you go to your deposit page it tells you of any limit it has set and here is mine......

Deposit Limit: A helping hand to do the counting - Active
Current Limit:
£10,000 per month
£10,500 remaining
Active since 10/04/2005 at 11:24
Limit resets on 01/12/2023 at 00:00

Report sparrow November 23, 2023 8:41 AM GMT
So nothing will change then dusty?
Report zipperdidoda November 23, 2023 8:53 AM GMT
it's not about being carried over, it's within the agreed time
mine is a week, as i see it
so if your dep limit is 10,000 and you withdraw 500
the current is 10500
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 8:56 AM GMT
I was just concerned as to whether my limit might be changed next month by Betfair.
Report zipperdidoda November 23, 2023 8:58 AM GMT
i wouldn't of thought so
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 8:59 AM GMT
Hopefully you're right, zip.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 9:05 AM GMT
That’s not how I read the info on it
It always said it reset at the end of the period

I still see no change sparrow

*I mean in the process
I don’t speak from experience, but looks the same as it was.

The worry in the terms is not this issue but how they use the language that could signify a limit to losses rather than deposits
Then there really would be issues.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 9:09 AM GMT
And a 10k limit doesn’t sound like one set by bf, that looks more like one set by the user.
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 9:09 AM GMT
Yes dusty, I see what you mean but we will just have to wait and see on that one.
Report sparrow November 23, 2023 9:10 AM GMT
It was set by me in 2005.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 9:47 AM GMT
Ultimately the disparity in the logic within how bf structured these limits has to be, in my mind, foreseeing the draconian implementation of AC by the GC.

It ultimately has to incorporate both deposit and loss limits.
How else will they square the following?

A pensioner has 10k in their bf account, had a net loss of -500 a week or so ago and sometime this week loses -1000 within 24 hours.
The operator is then obliged to trigger a more intrusive assessment, which comes back showing little income.
The user isn’t looking to deposit, what then?

The GC arn’t saying people need restricting the amount they deposit, they are saying you arn’t allowed to lose.

sparrow, if you're planning to lose £10,000 a month you need to get a new hobby.
Report dave1357 November 23, 2023 11:04 AM GMT
The GC arn’t saying people need restricting the amount they deposit, they are saying you arn’t allowed to lose.

One of the consultation questions was "when a AC is triggered should just depositing be suspended or also betting be suspended" or words to that effect. iirc they seemed to lead that their preferred option was just deposits suspended.
Report dustybin November 23, 2023 11:44 AM GMT
Well I hope it is.

But I don’t have a whole load of confidence in them getting it right from what I’ve seen up to now.

The very element of distinction between ‘deposit’ and ‘spend’ worries me as it probably should others.

No that was not the plan, swifty.   It was just at that time I did on the odd occasion sometimes have a four figure bet. After all I'm only a retired bus driver.

I can't see many respondents demanding that accounts are completely suspended, so hopefully that is the way it goes. The million dollar question though is, what happens when someone ignores the requests for AC info? (Telling them to fck off not recommended in these circs)

I got message too.

I thought it because I set a deposit limit.

I set deposit limit because I was worried about
all of the hacking stories, and don't like leaving
money in gambling accounts over and above what
I might need, and certainly didn't want my bank
account lost to some random card game whilst I slept.

This seems to be a good move by betfair, and
would appear to benefit those managing their account.

"certainly didn't want my bank account lost to some random card game whilst I slept."

I self-excluded from poker/slots/casino/arcade etc about as soon as I opened my BF account - if you don't play those games you may as well do the same.

And I have 2FA set up on the account.

I don't quite get the deposit limit as a defence against hacking - depositing, even having hacked your account (which shouldn't happen if you have 2FA) requires card details which criminals could equally well use to more directly profitable purposes?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- November 23, 2023 5:15 PM GMT
Yep, I've a bit more security than just that these days

But, if they get my phone they might have got my wallet too
and with it card details.

(I don't carry them in same pocket...)

I excluded from casino stuff but can't imagine
Betfair hacking me.

It was more the p2p stuff that looked dodgy, and
never knew if some random had be given access
in the past, as likely happened with phone companies
and broadband suppliers, energy companies, etc
outsourcing customer services to India and elsewhere. .
