I know there are only a handful of punters that are being slowed down closer to the off when trying to place a bet but does anyone know of a fix to stop it? Its so annoying and its costing me!!!
loads of free ram, its all timed to coincide with the race time....everything works fine in the lead up to the race but as it gets closer to the off time the lag starts, whilst the other races remain lag-free

Is your computer scalping all the data and unable to cope with the increased volume of bets?
If you place bets manually with other software switched off are you still slowed down placing bets.
Might help find out what's happening to you.

How do betfair create lag on your account - revs Nov 23 14:41
revs 19 Nov 23 15:10
taking 20 seconds to place a bet -----------------
Come on - revs - Betfair would probably have to have the capacity of GCHQ - to pick out, and SLOW Down individual Accounts - and ...
Just what BENEFIT would that be to BETFAIR, anyway ? ..... A Totally Irrational assumption, surely.
I appreciate that you have checked your RAM - Tried different Browsers etc - But it is surely something on your Computer/Tablet(s) or whatever.
Who is your ISP (internet Service Provider)? - Do you live in a Rural Area? - or Tower Block of Flats Sharing Internet Access, or something?
The issue (which I find hard to accept can exist as a Betfair induced action) - seemingly, affecting just you - (Solely, in such an extensive Individual and Isolated scenario) - has the hallmarks of an ISP transmission issue.
Try/DO a 'Speed Test'
This one returns the Results more immediately than most others - and completes within the 20 seconds - suggested...
You predominately want the 2nd Reading - the UPload Speed
Try the 'Speed Test' - when things are Normal - THEN ...
The - Next time when you have a "20 second delay" - Have a spare Browser Window open, with that Sped Test page open on it and ready - and immediately DO a Speed Test THEN .... and compare (with the normal activity Speed Test).
One other thing - You haven't got some sort of unnecessary set-up on your Systems like - 2 Firewalls open at the same time - 2 or Multiple Anti-Virus Programs - such as Norton, McAfee, MalwareBites 'Live Protection' etc running - ALONGSIDE the built-in Windows Defender (which is all that you need).
Although, that being said - If you do have such a Dual or multiple situation - it would likely SLOW down your System much more of the time, on Download too.

Have the same problem, it is betfair specific, interactions with other bookie sites and sites in general completely unaffected.
System usage, cpu/ram remains normal throughout these episodes as does internet speed d/u and latency etc which are occur solely at betfair peak usage times.
Right now for example the US horse markets close to the off are absolutely fine. Come lunchtime tomorrow the problem will be present once more.
This is using the regular betfair site no third party interface, tried multiple browsers, no joy.
Obviously not wilful but a problem exists.

Lux,also been having this problem for several months, as you say works better in the evening but shortly after logging in early afternoon gets slower and slower, sometimes shutting everything down clearing cookies etc logging back in helps for a while before it then starts to get slower again. Iam only using a fairly basic chromebook, but its worked fine on betfair for years up until recently and still works fine on all other sites.

nonsense, can easily flag certain accounts & allocate treatment accordingly

Starts off ok, then by about mid afternoon after a few races computer grinds to a halt, and everything starts to freeze up and lock, betfair becomes unusable.
The racing post website used to have the same effect, so I stopped using that at same time, but it’s still happening. Seems to be the betfair site that causes the problems.
As mentioned above, the only cure I have found at present is constantly closing and reopening, clearing cookies etc. that helps for a bit, until it inevitably grinds to a halt again. This is mainly on Firefox. Changing from windows 10 to 11 made no difference either, possibly even making things worse.
I been getting this a lot recently too. Starts off ok, then by about mid afternoon after a few races computer grinds to a halt, and everything starts to freeze up and lock, betfair becomes unusable. The racing post website used to have the same effec
its almost certainly not targeted, the site is working as it should right now for me, but when it gets busier from early afternoon until early evening this is when it gets slower and at times almost unusable.

For me everything is ok for a bit, then stuff like graphs won’t open, can’t change market, nothing updates, then computer becomes totally unresponsive and just freezes/locks.
When it unlocks, or task manager finally works, close down betfair and everything works again.

It could be sparrow. I have software running at same time as betfair website.
But have done for years without any problem.
I’ve also noticed it happening when I’ve just had betfair webpage open, no software.
Works for a while, slowly grinds to a halt, then makes PC unusable.
Also website seems better if using apple, but does still lag from time to time.
Definitely worse on windows though.

I've got a very old computer and to get it working quick I have to clear history/cookies etc each day before racing and then it's fine for the afternoon. But would likely need action again if I kept playing evenings.

vei worked with dozens on tracks/office last 20yrs..non done any maintainence on their device and rarely did they have any probs untill the dust around the processor/PSU caused it to overheat...

I've had similar problems with it slowing close to the off but never 20 seconds. I've always put it down to caching of data and the fact Betfair's servers are under a much greater load nearer the off. Probelm I have is more like stuttering with the odds, noticeable but certainly not 20 seconds

Yes - Ghetto Joe - "momentarily" - happens for everybody - myself included - as it does from time to time on all websites ...
racingpost.com - being a website that can have 'a mind of it's own' at varying times, and almost every day.
However - "momentarily" - is a mile away from revs - continual, "20 seconds to place a bet" claim - along with some others - far too frequent, claims.

amazing how many times during the "20 seconds to place a bet" scenario the price will disappear, not in your favour obv. £40 at 11 please.
20 seconds later, nah. it's 9.8 now. Soz.

I'm clearly not the only one experiencing this..betfair have ignored my concerns so I'm left to investigate this myself. For the people experiencing this issue, do you generate profits each month on the whole? Be honest, nobody is here to judge. Do you use/have you ever used Bet Angel? Only by eliminating possibilities can I start to uncover whats going on.

i've timed it at 8 - if you check back i've documented this on here (and been pilloried for it, maybe not so much now that others are appearing from the woodwork )

If you were winning anything worthwhile from it, you'd be paying PC and he'd then be helping himself to a considerably larger slice of the pie than he's currently getting, so yes he would want you locking in a guaranteed profit.
