Asks the Question, is it time to break the law?
Don't know much about this bloke but think he does wildlife programs on TV, also i've seen him a few times recently on Gogglebox. Comes over as an arrogant, conceited man who thinks he knows everything, tonights program he's asking ,is it time to break the law to protest climate change?
I thought these Just Stop Oil and other groups were already breaking the law, ie) Obstructing the highway, J Walking, blockading oil terminals etc.
So how far does this man think it'[s ok to break the law about something he objects to, is it time everyone who doesn't like certain laws decided to break those laws, ie) Is it ok for homeless people to break into people homes and take over and live in them, is it time for poor people to rob well off people because it's their right etc, could go on and on but sounds as if this pillock could be trying to start a precedent of breaking laws you don't like.

What laws exactly? He is defending the right to protest.
My understanding is that he is asking, about the ethics behind breaking the Law to protest about climate change.
The trailer being shown on C4 gives the impression he's going to sabotage oil/gas infrastructure. Seems he is encouraging some sort of eco terrorism. Not sure this is right and maybe plod should be knocking on his door along with his cohorts.
Is he the one that always bangs on about being autistic? I think Greta Nutjob might be the same.
I like Packham. Comes across as honest, knowledgeable and prepared to stick his neck out and say what he believes in. Also has impeccable taste in music!

Whatever your views on whether climate change is man-made or not, there can be little doubt human actions have polluted the air, the land and the seas to such an extent that we are as a species going to kill off this great planet.
I don't agree with law-breaking but there has to be a platform for these views to be expressed and to encourage the masses to act (and as a whole, not as individual nations)

I'm with you Pixie. Always liked him and really enjoyed that series of Springwatch where he introduced Clash song titles into the narrative whenever he could. Was waiting to see how he could engineer "I'm All Lost In The Supermarket", into the script but he managed it. Will watch the CH4 program tonight to see what all the fuss is about and fairly confident he won't be advocating breaking the law.

Can't stand him and won't watch anything he's on. I like wildlife programmes but wouldn't watch him. My fear is he will take over from David Attenborough but with a bit of luck he'll be in jail by then.

I doubt he actually believes the Climate Change con but has seen an opportunity to make a few £s so until I see the documentary will hold my opinion on it. Look back far enough on here and I mentioned the cattle and livestock emissions first mentioned by my brother over 40 years ago.

Cattle numbers have significantly reduced within the UK in fact most live stock farms have, the exception being poultry. Could it be something else is driving climate change than cows? Obviously this is within the UK, but if it truly is livestock then perhaps we should encourage food produced within the UK at supermarkets or local shops, as it does not seem to be the UK farmer which is causing the problem as they have been declining in numbers since 1975.

Chart 5 and Table 2 (appendix) show trends in the total number of cattle on farms. Despite
some year-on-year variation, there was a consistent upward trend for the first 100 years shown
here (1875 to 1974), over which time the total number of cattle increased from 6 million to
15.2 million. Since then, the number of cattle has fallen by almost 5 million; or 32%. More
recent falls associated with BSE and foot and mouth disease have magnified the downward
trend. Much of the underlying decline in numbers since the 1980s has been in the dairy herd as
a result of restrictions on milk production from milk quotas.6
2.2 Sheep
Chart 6 and Table 2 show trends in the total number of sheep and lambs on farms. In the
period up to the early 1970s the only clear patterns were sharp falls during and just after both
wars (due to an emphasis on crop production), followed by slower periods of recovery. Outside
of these periods, numbers varied between 25 and 30 million. While this is a large range in
absolute terms it is relatively small compared to the change since 1980 when the CAP for sheep
meat was introduced and profitability improved. Numbers increased by 14.6 million, or almost
50%, to their highest recorded level of 44.5 million in 1992. The outbreak of foot and mouth
disease affected sheep numbers more than cattle; in the year to June 2001 the total number fell
by 13% or 5.5 million. The numbers have yet to recover.

pattern in the number of pigs, when compared to cattle and sheep, is the volatility in numbers.
This reflects the ability to respond to prices more quickly and the dominance of meat in the
value extracted from pigs.

expanded rapidly to 4.6 million in the mid-1930s. A dramatic fall in numbers took place during
the Second World War, owing to reductions in pigs’ main food supplies of cereals and imported

rapid as the decline with a four-fold increase in the seven years to 1954. After then, the
expansion in numbers continued more slowly and more erratically, peaking at 9 million in 1973.

... these ''right on'' climate change zealots never discuss the world population being 8 billionish.... in 1961 it was 3.1 billion !! Tbf to Phil The Greek, he highlighted this 60 years ago !! There are too many of us... all the great & the good should ask to be euphanisiaed when they get to three score years & ten !
Humans should build up "credits" by maintaining good social existence i.e. contributing to society positivity. Anybody above the threshold can continue to live with termination of non-performing members once they have dropped below the threshold. The higher the score built up the older one can live. Eventually age will catch up, but who really wants to live once independence physical/mental has waned? Problem is, with humans predisposition to predilection and corruption, who could be trusted to run the system?

I use to watch Chris when I was a kid on something called the really wild show and I've enjoyed Spring/Autumn watch too. I personally have a love of wildlife and nature myself. I've recently moved and I've reserved an area in my garden for Wildlife and added a pond. Unfortunately, there won't be a BBC TV series and accompanying hardback book documenting the process of this journey. But that's OK, because I don't expect to profit from this and then I can be sure my ego won't encourage me to start making ignorant comments on things I know feck all about.
