Yet another new opportunity for criminals to fleece gullible people that depends on the internet. I know that I am using the net to write this post but like many older people who managed a fairly successful life long before the internet was invented, I view everything on it with deep distrust. There is no going back of course as everything from Government down (or up) relies on online services but the level of supervision and legal recourse is still no better than in the days of Robin Hood.
At a much lower level, a secure key that I am obliged to use to access my bank account has failed and I have been waiting 5 days so far for a new one. It has not cost me anything yet but it easily could have if a bill was due but not paid. The nearest branch in which I may or may not have been able to make a payment at a counter is 20 miles away.

Many people's idea of progress, sageform. And they will be along shortly to defend it.

Some of them because they use it for nefarious purposes. I wonder how much X will charge Government Agencies to use their websiteCrazy

if you're silly enuff to experiment with a 'crypto casino' then caveat emptor.

Isn’t it your idea of progress, Sparrow? It’s kept you out of the bookies for thirty years!

sage - which bank are you with?  all the ones I once had physical security devices for now offer a smartphone app instead - much simpler than having to replace the physical device when they inevitably fail.
Report sageform September 19, 2023 10:17 AM BST
they do have a smartphone app which I would trust as far as I could throw my phone and as I live in an area where it is necessary to take the phone outside of my house to get a signal, I have never used it. The device had worked fine for 5 years as I took the trouble to write the date on it when it arrived.
Report longbridge September 19, 2023 10:26 AM BST
I just use the smartphone app to generate security codes for using on the desktop - it doesn't need signal to do that (much like it doesn't need signal to generate 2FA codes for logging into Betfair).

I might consider that thanks.

You can still do your attendance allowance claim by post, sageform.

I had begun to use a phone account quite some time before other options arrived but I get your point about bookmakers themselves rather than their shops.

Bookies sponsoring kids games? I can’t see that. What’s the game and who is the sponsor?

Let me guess. You can’t remember!
