Dettori would have happily have carried on for another four or five Years imho but the sh1t he got from Gosden losing good rides and what have you knocked the guy for six.Anybody in there right mind knows Dettori is nowhere near ready to retire and i dont think he will.
Dettori said, then - following the Godolphin split.
"I was at home with Catherine, and I said to her - What do I do now? ... Shall I ring my old boss, John?"
Just then - The Phone rang .... It was John Gosden, offering Frankie a job.
Talk about 'Falling off the Co-op roof, and landing in the Divi'
But - Some people - just a few - go through life like that.
While the rest of us just - Slug On.

This is what i mean Big John was like a father figure to Frankie and when he started to Jock him off a few it was a bitter blow to him.It would be an absolute travesty if Frankie retired long before he has to....I am not a Dettori groupie either...Ryan Moore is my Man.

The Barstewards agree with you acey, they were saying last night that he's like one of those rock bands on a "farewell tour" to rake the funds in but have every intention of carrying on! They reckon he'll take a big retainer in America.
Early 50s, presumably has enough money to last him fifty lifetimes, and in a sport that isn't without risk. Sounds like a good time to retire imo for a jockey.

We all know the guy is a born Showman George it would take one half decent offer for him to change his mind....And i dont think it is coming from Gosden.

Horse trainer hits out at Frankie Dettori for ‘horrible’ ride and says she was left ‘gutted’
A TOP horse trainer has hit out at Frankie Dettori for his 'horrible' ride and said she was left 'gutted' after the jockey finished second-last.
Dettori's global retirement tour took in Bro Park in Stockholm over the weekend. He toasted Listed success for trainer Annike Bye Hansen with victory on 8-1 Takeko in the Lanwades Stud Stakes.
Victory there was worth a shade over £30,000 but it was the Group 3 Stockholm Cup that the duo really wanted to win.
Hansen said she had no idea why Dettori wanted to race in the Swedish capital but was happy to have him jocked up on Hard One To Please… until the race started.
The 11-4 chance won it last year but had no chance in this year's feature after Dettori admitted he had pulled off a 'horrible' ride.
Hard One To Please weakened rapidly from three furlongs out after failing to find any cover in-running.
He finished finished eight lengths behind winner Espen Hill, with Hollie Doyle and Archie Watson teaming up for second with Outbox.
Hansen said Dettori held his hands up after the race - but she still stuck the knife in when speaking on the Nick Luck podcast. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/24002471/horse-trainer-hits-out-frankie-dettori-horrible-ride/#:~:text=A%20TOP%20horse%20trainer%20has,in%20Stockholm%20over%20the%20weekend.

She could have topped it off with the Snowy Wainwright classic line to Lester. "You will never ride for me again "

Poor Frankie, feel so sorry for his predicament . Been well paid for a job he loves, can still be involved in racing as much as he likes because of his fame but now been forced into an extremely comfortable semi-retirement. Enough to make you cry!

Waffling on ITV Racing? No way alongside Mr Chamberlin. It's a severe downgrade and extremely boring; Racing UK unlikely too given it's too mundane and repetitive. Also, his probable signing-on fee is too exorbitant. The only option left is riding freelance eg in Group races as pay-per-ride jockey.
Maybe this could be the beginning of the end of retained jocks given the availability of Dettori.

Think 52 is the right time to retire, even the great Lester Piggott retired at 50, more mistakes would only creep in so why blemish an outstanding career. Frankie fully deserves to put his feet up and enjoy the rest of his life and share the great memories with his grandkids.

I think 52 (Dettori is not Piggott) is too early to retire esp from something one likes to do bearing in mind 66 is the official retirement age. And, being a jockey is adrenaline-fueled, and as long as he still enjoys it keep going, but be selective to avoid undue stress and maintain physical and mental health.

I disagree, to stay top of your game you can't just flick in and out, Frankie admitted after the Stradivarius ride he hadn't been putting the work in so mistakes were happening, time waits for nobody.

I'd like to see some of the bookies paid horseracing journos retire for good. Some are absolutely pants in the their "profession". I think horseracing journos is one of the professions where no qualification is needed just interest in the sport. More importantly, who one knows can/could get one a position regardless esp these days; the quality of the hourseracing journos presently is sh1t - worst ever I've come across. They lacked independence and sincerity.

Eddery summed up his attitude to the sport by saying, "That's all part of the game, going to the Folkestones and the smaller tracks, because it's not Royal Ascot every day. You've got to be out there every day working those muscles, riding in every race if you want to be at your best. There may be more money for a Derby than a seller but that doesn't make you try any harder. A winner is a winner."[

Fallon -51 Carson -54 Mercer -51 Richards-50 A little over a year later, he broke his pelvis and four ribs when being thrown by Abergeldie in the Sandown Park paddock on 10 July 1954. This enforced his retirement. He had ridden 4,870 winners from 21,843 rides and been champion jockey twenty-six times.
Frankie 53 in December, he knows it's the right decision, question is whether he can resist a silly offer to keep riding- time will tell.

Perhaps. Maybe Dettori ought to just get on with it, and not ask or wait for a big offer for his service to arrive. If one's retirement is dependent on money - he's sufficiently rich already - then one is a phoney.

if he keeps himself fit, which i fully imagine he will, attends meetings, most probably, then he will be back in the saddle before ascot.top sportsman, winners, always want to carry on and they think they can still do the job.anyway, why not? if i was him they would have to drag me off.

Agree, oil money is crazy. $1 increment per barrel = 50 yrs horseracing funding. This is being exploited by the aged football mercenaries in Saudi Arabia.
If only oil is found in Africa, and not such quantity in the Middle East. Maybe then there will be lesser starvation, lesser illegal immigration into Europe and lesser boat-people crossing the English Channel into UK Plc.
Come on mad Putin. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Never take any notice of anything Gosden says after his excuse for Rainbow View's odds on defeat in the 2009 1000 guineas when he claimed that his jockey Jimmy Fortune said the ground was like a road. Later that afternoon he had a runner which would only run if the ground was right and this previous Good to Soft ground winner actually ran and won the race.
