In fact i would say retirement was the last thing on his mind before he started losing good rides for Gosden.
|

Frankie was in the doldrums between losing the Godolphin job and being picked up by Gosden.
|
By:
Dettori said, then - following the Godolphin split.
"I was at home with Catherine, and I said to her - What do I do now? ... Shall I ring my old boss, John?" Just then - The Phone rang .... It was John Gosden, offering Frankie a job. Talk about 'Falling off the Co-op roof, and landing in the Divi' But - Some people - just a few - go through life like that. While the rest of us just - Slug On. |

This is what i mean Big John was like a father figure to Frankie and when he started to Jock him off a few it was a bitter blow to him.It would be an absolute travesty if Frankie retired long before he has to....I am not a Dettori groupie either...Ryan Moore is my Man.

How about some grown up input rico?

The Barstewards agree with you acey, they were saying last night that he's like one of those rock bands on a "farewell tour" to rake the funds in but have every intention of carrying on! They reckon he'll take a big retainer in America.
Early 50s, presumably has enough money to last him fifty lifetimes, and in a sport that isn't without risk. Sounds like a good time to retire imo for a jockey. |
By:
We all know the guy is a born Showman George it would take one half decent offer for him to change his mind....And i dont think it is coming from Gosden.
|
By:
I mean Dettori V Shoemark ffs....Its laughable.

Shoulda cancelled Stockholm leg of the farewell lap
Horse trainer hits out at Frankie Dettori for ‘horrible’ ride and says she was left ‘gutted’ A TOP horse trainer has hit out at Frankie Dettori for his 'horrible' ride and said she was left 'gutted' after the jockey finished second-last. Dettori's global retirement tour took in Bro Park in Stockholm over the weekend. He toasted Listed success for trainer Annike Bye Hansen with victory on 8-1 Takeko in the Lanwades Stud Stakes. Victory there was worth a shade over £30,000 but it was the Group 3 Stockholm Cup that the duo really wanted to win. Hansen said she had no idea why Dettori wanted to race in the Swedish capital but was happy to have him jocked up on Hard One To Please… until the race started. The 11-4 chance won it last year but had no chance in this year's feature after Dettori admitted he had pulled off a 'horrible' ride. Hard One To Please weakened rapidly from three furlongs out after failing to find any cover in-running. He finished finished eight lengths behind winner Espen Hill, with Hollie Doyle and Archie Watson teaming up for second with Outbox. Hansen said Dettori held his hands up after the race - but she still stuck the knife in when speaking on the Nick Luck podcast. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/24002471/horse-trainer-hits-out-frankie-dettori-horrible-ride/#:~:text=A%20TOP%20horse%20trainer%20has,in%20Stockholm%20over%20the%20weekend. |

Has anyone noticed Big John is doing all the media interviews and his son is almost absent? It was the opposite last time.
|
By:
Yeah i noticed that imp.
|
By:
I heard that leif she was seething.
|
By:
She thought it was a steering job.
|
By:
Dettori is 24% for Gosden in the last 12 months and has amassed 2.3 mil in prize money.
20% Lifetime strike rate from 10,350 rides. not too shabby. |
By:
Yes so why is Gosden so keen to pension him off?
|
By:
how much did he get for turning up in sverige?
anyone who put him up on a track hes never seen is a mug and looking to be part of the frankiestein narrative. going off the geezer rapido i know nowt about horses or jokeys or gambolling or anything but someone who does says hes the greatest so i will take that. but the circus is becoming tiresome |

Shoulda cancelled Stockholm leg of the farewell lap Horse trainer hits out at Frankie Dettori for ‘horrible’ ride and says she was left ‘gutted’ She could have topped it off with the Snowy Wainwright classic line to Lester. "You will never ride for me again " |

Think this is more Thady wanting rid of Dettori and wanting a younger/Own guy in
|
By:
Who gives a **** what Thady thinks?
|
By:
Gosdens replaced him, doubt he'd go short of rides.
|
By:
Maybe Dettori told Thady where he ought to go.
|
By:
K Shoemark is the flavour …..ffs

Poor Frankie, feel so sorry for his predicament . Been well paid for a job he loves, can still be involved in racing as much as he likes because of his fame but now been forced into an extremely comfortable semi-retirement. Enough to make you cry!
|
By:
would you rather be riding Group 1 winners or waffling away on ITV...you're a long time retired
|
By:
Waffling on ITV Racing? No way alongside Mr Chamberlin. It's a severe downgrade and extremely boring; Racing UK unlikely too given it's too mundane and repetitive. Also, his probable signing-on fee is too exorbitant. The only option left is riding freelance eg in Group races as pay-per-ride jockey.
Maybe this could be the beginning of the end of retained jocks given the availability of Dettori. |
By:
Think 52 is the right time to retire, even the great Lester Piggott retired at 50, more mistakes would only creep in so why blemish an outstanding career. Frankie fully deserves to put his feet up and enjoy the rest of his life and share the great memories with his grandkids.
|
By:
would you rather be riding Group 1 winners or waffling away on ITV...you're a long time retired....Correct.
|
By:
I think 52 (Dettori is not Piggott) is too early to retire esp from something one likes to do bearing in mind 66 is the official retirement age. And, being a jockey is adrenaline-fueled, and as long as he still enjoys it keep going, but be selective to avoid undue stress and maintain physical and mental health.
|
By:
Everybody says he is riding better than ever i just dont think it will happen.
|
By:
I disagree, to stay top of your game you can't just flick in and out, Frankie admitted after the Stradivarius ride he hadn't been putting the work in so mistakes were happening, time waits for nobody.

I'd like to see some of the bookies paid horseracing journos retire for good. Some are absolutely pants in the their "profession". I think horseracing journos is one of the professions where no qualification is needed just interest in the sport. More importantly, who one knows can/could get one a position regardless esp these days; the quality of the hourseracing journos presently is sh1t - worst ever I've come across. They lacked independence and sincerity.

I bet the weighing room are counting down the days....
