Stott now 2 winners from 37 rides following another tactical nightmare on Buccanero Fuente. Typical of Amo racing to demote a class jockey like Rossa Ryan, for an average jockey like Stott, how did he get the job?? He's with too near the pass in fast run races, or out the back in slowly run races. Lacks any tactical awareness. Went to soon in the Derby , can't see how Amo will keep him as No1 given their record.

Report blackbarn September 10, 2023 9:24 PM BST
Oil-wells? Not really that relevant.  The interesting bit is the reason for the decline in Godolphin's fortunes. Lack of funding? - a bit, Declining interest by SM - Yup.. Issues with previous sheikha - Yup and related to declining interest.  Contrast with smaller scale Shadwell pretty striking now.

Report impossible123 September 11, 2023 9:07 AM BST
The owner of AMO is a football agent, correct? And, with the surgence of Saudi Football League I think this source of income could be prolonged at least for the near to middle term.

Stott did make a couple of elementary errors on King Of Steel, so did Ms Doyle; Coolmore was gifted the race on saturday. Maybe Mr Dettori could be "paid" to ride for a set-fee (dependent of status of the race) plus a percentage of breeding/disposal fee. That could tempt big owners including Coolmore (to deny others for his service).
Report sageform September 11, 2023 9:15 AM BST
The spending power of Amo is their own private information but the costs of having that many in training is enormous and if they don't keep winning, the pot might run dry.
Report ladycarla September 11, 2023 9:37 AM BST
Kevin Stott will no longer be riding as retained jockey to Amo Racing after revealing he had been sacked by owner Kia Joorabchian in a text message on Monday.

Stott, who began working for Amo Racing at the start of March, has enjoyed considerable success for the increasingly powerful operation this year, most notably aboard Derby runner-up and King Edward VII Stakes winner King Of Steel.

However, Joorabchian was unhappy with Stott's ride aboard King Of Steel in Saturday's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes, in which the pair finished fourth. Joorabchian said in an RTE interview that Stott had "made a couple of mistakes" on King Of Steel and that the Roger Varian-trained three-year-old "wasn't given the best chance to win" at Leopardstown.
Speaking to the Racing Post on Monday, Stott said: "I was informed this morning that I will no longer be riding for Amo Racing. It was obviously very disappointing news but a reason for the decision was not given to me, so there isn't a lot I can say.

"I do want to thank Kia and all the Amo trainers for the opportunities given to me this year. There have been some incredible moments, one of them being riding Amo's first Group 1 winner.

"What has happened is disappointing but I'm still looking forward to the rest of the year and beyond."

Stott becomes the second jockey to leave the Amo job in controversial circumstances. Rossa Ryan announced he had split from Amo during last year's Ebor festival but that was refuted by Joorabchian, who only confirmed the termination of their association a number of days later. That relationship was revived this year when Ryan partnered 150-1 Amo second string Valiant Force to land Royal Ascot's Norfolk Stakes.

The 29-year-old Stott, who rode as principal first-choice jockey for Kevin Ryan until opting to go freelance last October, helped Amo break its top-flight duck when Bucanero Fuerte won last month's Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

Stott has also struck at Pattern level for Amo this season in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, Oak Tree Stakes and Craven Stakes, while he came within half a length of winning the Derby aboard King Of Steel, who followed his Royal Ascot triumph by finishing third in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Stott has ridden 81 winners in Britain this year and was on Sunday declared to ride one Amo-owned runner at Leicester on Tuesday as well as a two-year-old maiden for Ryan.

The Danish born rider, who enjoyed a career-best 116 winners in 2022, gained his first Group 1 success aboard the Ryan-trained Hello Youmzain in the 2020 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

On Walsh about Doyle it was the mildest of criticism, more perceived than anything. He only really commented about where she was on the track.

I think Osborne looks a lot more tidy than Doyle, in fact most jockeys do. She seems to have a problem keeping horses straight and getting them settled, but as you say the cheerleaders can't see any wrong.

Report truehoncho September 11, 2023 12:54 PM BST
If he thinks it's bad he should ask small breeders how they are treated by the sales companies. Set that aside, he is doomed to fail. He wants to become a 'big' player but he is just far too poor. You can't get sustained success by buying a horse for £1m+, you need to buy 10 of them.......every year.
Report Joe Lampton September 11, 2023 1:10 PM BST
Just had a look at AMO Racings filings with Companies House, Here are the rough figures from March 2016 onwards showing the net assets/liabilities (i.e net value of businesses as going concern):

16 -£216K
17 -£383K
18 -£216K
19 -£437K
20 +£455K
21 +21K
22 - £5.6M

So if the company was wound up tomorrow there'd be £5.6M light in terms of paying their creditors. They really started investing from 2019 onwards with assets (presumed to be horses) going from £2.7M to £11.9M. They started to take on some serious debt to fund this buying spree. Accounts don't say who it's owed to (described as "other payables") and it may be to the director but even if it is this isn't sustainable long term. To me it's very strange anyway and shows a degree of arrogance. How many owners structure their activities in this way aside from the commercial breeding operations. If I was a creditor I'd be concerned.
Report Vubiant September 11, 2023 1:27 PM BST
Just looked up the form record. It tells me that Augeste Rodin has met King of Steel 3 times and won each time
...at 3 different distances , on 3 different types of going , from the front and from behind.
I can't help getting the impression that AR might actually be the better horse. Unclear what a jockey is expected to do to change that.
Report impossible123 September 11, 2023 1:53 PM BST
I'd have agreed if the Irish Champion Stakes was 12f. Then perhaps King Of Steel would be outstayed again. But, over 10f (he led the winner at Epsom) tracking the winner several lengths further back he'd allowed the AOB contingent (and winner) a head start; the winner needed every yard at Epsom to beat him and win.

I'm not advocating King Of Steel would have won. But, the position Stott took had made the task many times more difficult; he only lost by a length after being many lengths behind prior.
Report truehoncho September 11, 2023 1:57 PM BST
If a jockey gives them that kind of lead and wins, he's a genius. Loses by a length and he's on the dole.
