Yep, and to think some race planners were paid to create this mess. Cry
Report tantpis June 3, 2023 5:29 AM BST
Ruined the whole race, lets face it who wants to watch the Derby at 1.30pm,the general public will probably still be out shopping or having lunch. These so called planners must have known that the FA Cup final was on today. They probably would ask some furniture to be delivered knowing they are on going on holiday, just like the rest of controllers of British Horse Racing they havent got a clue.
Report elisjohn June 3, 2023 5:34 AM BST
and who actually other than some of the teams  fans is interested  in the cup final anyway, bloody hell man u didnt enter it a good few years back, anyway time for The derby to go back to wednesday .

The whole race card looks a top heavy mess today. Glad I went yesterday this year.

Is the big gay tent pumping and rocking with drag queens yet? Grin
Report sparrow June 3, 2023 9:55 AM BST
Hard to believe what they have done to completely wreck Derby Day this year and who knows for the future.
Report mokegibboni June 3, 2023 11:17 AM BST
They're always having cup finals!!
Report G Hall June 3, 2023 11:50 AM BST
The big stables and big owners Coolmore, Godolphin, Johnny G etc, should threaten to boycott the race next year, until discussions are held to elevate the race show that it once again becomes a showpiece of the British sporting calendar.
Report Cider June 3, 2023 12:16 PM BST
The irony is that the fa cup used to be a showpiece of the British sporting calendar. Nowadays I couldn't even tell you who was playing in the final in any given year.
Report stu June 3, 2023 12:22 PM BST
It's true that most of the showpiece sports events have lost their historical standout status these days - partly due to blanket sport being so available 24/7 though I reckon.
Report JJmbe June 3, 2023 12:26 PM BST
Hidden away on itv4 at 1.30 pm no less how has it come to this ffs.
Report Cider June 3, 2023 12:30 PM BST
Yes it's a different world, mainly due to internet access, globalisation and availability of information.

the boat race, the open, the derby, the fa cup, the British grand prix, five nations et al were signposts of my sporting year.

all changed now.

RA, Cheltenham and Aintree have all held up pretty well. it's the classics that appear to have diminished in horse racing terms for some reason.

Nice! They can run the Derby at 1.30pm every year.
Report stewarts rise June 3, 2023 2:34 PM BST
Hardly had time to get a paper, look at the runners and have a bet, didn't seem like The Derby at all, just as bas as running the GN at 5.15, clueless people making these decisions, f@ck the football, there's Cup finals every other week, and the 2 finalists don't really give a toss about the cup, but there's only one Epsom Derby.
Report stu June 3, 2023 2:40 PM BST
But is the gay tent good this year - that's what really we want to hear about...??

Gone down well with punters?
Report elisjohn June 3, 2023 3:27 PM BST
Was the King , or any royals at the Derby ?
Report sparrow June 3, 2023 3:36 PM BST
All the family were oop for the cup!
Report Cider June 3, 2023 4:23 PM BST
Plenty of queens apparently, elis.
Report Cardinal Scott June 3, 2023 4:30 PM BST
DECLINISM has affected both of the big sporting events today, both were enormous all the way through into the 80s.  But at least the FA Cup is not sponsored by BetThread.  It's a differnet world now. I agree Cheltenham Festival seems as big or even bigger than it ever was, the marketers have done a superb job down there.
Report Cider June 3, 2023 4:43 PM BST
If the Aston Martin brand are happy to associate with racing and sponsor races on the day, it's a bit odd that they can't or won't sponsor the major race. I realise there's a (very) loose association with speed in the dashes, but it's a pity they can't get more aspirational branding for the blue ribband.
