that's a surprise. Right then, get the message out to all players, especially in-running ones to get over there. Now rico, you're a wealthy chap , maybe you can fund an advertising campaign, it would keep you busy, and you never know you might get your love of betting back again. Everyone's a winner.

BF - £2 matched at 10.0 counted as £4 matched.
BD - £2 matched at 10.0 counted as £20 matched.

Precisely.  There is no consistency in the way different companies record this, and they are all wrong in my opinion anyway.  I think they should all record a back bet of £10 as £10 matched, 'cos that's what it is !

Report swiftynifty June 23, 2022 10:52 AM BST
the dealer, so the figures are very misleading then, and I know in-running amounts are pitiful.

rico, maybe Desmond will look at the issue with fresh eyes now he has rebought BD. Just need to get the message out there.

dustybin, I thought previously they had a PC model too but couldn't find anything out about it.

@BigDeal

"I think they should all record a back bet of £10 as £10 matched, 'cos that's what it is !"

is it though?  If your £10 back bet is matched at 5.0, it is matched to £40 of layers' money.

I cannot see any justification for BF calling this £20 matched, but BD would call it £10 which at least makes a kind of sense, to me at least.
Report sparrow June 23, 2022 11:24 AM BST
I have to agree with longbridge as obviously everyone on here is not a backer.
Report longbridge June 23, 2022 11:29 AM BST
But BD would call it £50*, sorry for typo
Report swiftynifty June 23, 2022 11:31 AM BST
If a max of £40 could change hands then it should show as £40
Report sparrow June 23, 2022 11:37 AM BST
Correct swifty.
Report longbridge June 23, 2022 11:39 AM BST
Swifty and sparrow - if the £10 backer then lays off @ 4.0, do you think the matched amount should then reduce to show that a smaller amount of money can now change hands?

I have mixed thoughts TBH.
Report BigDeal June 23, 2022 11:42 AM BST
OK thanks, can see the wider argument for differing methods and if it was recorded the way I suggested it is effectively just an aggregate of the backers stakes, but why not?  I place a bet of £10 (at whatever price) and you take that bet, so there is £10 on the table.  I place another bet of £10 later (at whatever odds) and there is now £20 on the table. I still feel that is the amount 'matched'.
Report longbridge June 23, 2022 11:45 AM BST
@BigDeal

" I place a bet of £10 (at whatever price) and you take that bet, so there is £10 on the table."

I don't see it.  If you back @ 4.0, there is £10 of your money and £40 of layers' money on the table, so £50 total on the table and (less commission) if either of you win you would take the £50 off the table, for a profit of £40 if it is you or £10 if it is the layer.
Report longbridge June 23, 2022 11:51 AM BST
It's even more obviously mad in binary sports like Tennis.

If I think Player A will win, I can back Player A for £10 @ 5.0 to win £40 - BF call this £20 matched.

or I can lay Player B for £40 @ 1.25 to win £40 if Player B loses, but lose £10 if Player B wins - BF call this £80 matched.

The two bets are exactly the same bet, with exactly the same payouts on the same outcomes.
Report swiftynifty June 23, 2022 1:25 PM BST
I can lay Player B for £40 @ 1.25 to win £40 if Player B loses, but lose £10 if Player B wins - BF call this £80 matched.

is that really right?

longbridge re. your laying off/trading point it always amazes me when people say £30million matched on a 20/20 match when in reality only a few thousand may actually change hands.

If i had a million on one team at 2.0 (that counts as 2mill traded?), then  I change my mind and lay it back at 2.0(another 2mill traded?) so 4mill in total and not a penny moves. Is that right?
Report longbridge June 23, 2022 1:47 PM BST
£80 - yes - BF's matched amount is twice the backer's stake to the best of my knowledge.

£4m - equally, that's my understanding
Report swiftynifty June 23, 2022 1:53 PM BST
so the numbers all sound astronomic bit in realtiy BF aren't making fortunes, hence they need their bots to pick up the slack.
