Rode him straight up the backside of the horse that had already started going backwards. Cost him 8L lost by 2L.   Utter garbage.

He could have pulled the horse out a few strides earlier. Can't see how he can bemoan bad luck when it was his own fault.

Or just followed the fav on his run.

The checking masks the dominance of the winner, before westover got checked you momentarily saw the two of them level but the winner had that instant turn of foot, westover never had that , yes he stayed on and closed down, but the winner had just used up the winning move...and in the end eased down to win.

He was with the winner all the way until he had to check. So frustrating to watch many of our

jockeys' naivete.

Winner took off  , Westover would have to have taken off to stay with Him

St Leger winner imo

Westover doesn't have instant acceleration (watch his trial) he takes time to get going & gets faster and faster.  Had he followed the fav on his run he'd have easily outstayed him IMO.  The aerial shot (they never showed us) might demonstrate that. Or the next time they meet.

DC was pulling double when Westover started to make his move - should have been clear second though.

2 rags in the first 4 how poor was that field?

The winner was much the best. He was always travelling, quickened up smartly and the race was immediately over. He could be very good.

Westover shaped like a Leger horse. He picked up the pieces when the race was over. I actually cashed out my bet because he was in such a state beforehand. That isn't a great trait going forwards.

So possibly a very good winner. All prices will no doubt have gone, but will Stoute be able to mind him until the Arc? My guess would be take out the winner, and possibly the third, and this will turn out to be a pretty average renewal.

Obviously, Westover franked the Sandown form. What has happened to Cash? Not even in the King Edward? Injured?

Without the brain bogglingy stupid fireworks and on a more conventional track the one Id take out of the race is NAHANNI

The Derby third was clearly hampered and held up in his run. But for him to have challenged the winner would mean we have two 3yo's of the ability and potential of the winner in the same year - and that doesn't happen often.

Also, the third was beaten last year at Pontefract in a conditions race. Not classic winning form, IMO.

Lastly, was the third making rapid headway on the first two or was Desert Crown very eased and the second running out of steam?

It is not what they look like when they run but what they beat and the times they do it in.

Third will never beat the winner anywhere imo, the race was put to bed 2 furlongs out.

I would like to see them meet again on a different track . It looks as though Hornby wanted to challenge on the outside if possible as perhaps he was worried about his horse drifting into the rail . It did move left after a crack of the whip , but also showed serious acceleration . How much that was magnified by others stopping and how much the winner had in hand is the question .

Westover was unlucky in the race nevertheless I firmly believe Desert Crown will confirm his superiority on any in the Epsom Derby, any track and any day, all things being equal ie health-wise. I'm more certain of this than Emily Upjohn (EU) against Tuesday, and I'm confident EU can turn the table on Tuesday should they meet at The Curragh on 16th July or in the Arc.

As such, I shall put my money on both, singly and doubly.

Watching race I thought the winner won fair and square.

Not sure he had much left if challenged, but didnt
get challenged.

3rd would have won in extra furlong, assuming he
would go past.

Could be a very interesting eclipse!
