A dark cold morning and the first of the two year olds are having their first look at the gallops , you hide in the bushes binoculars focused on the one in front as they gather speed you notice a bay arrive on the outside and pick the leader up as if it had stood still. Blood pumping and the dream begins again , is it the one that brings home the bacon .
You refocus your bins , note the trainer and with shaking hands pencil in the date and hopefully exit without been spotted . I'd imaging that's how work watchers spent their early mornings in the late 40s and 50s, what a life . Don't know what brought that on...

I was 11 years old when Abernant got done on the line in the 2,000 gns. Think I had 6d ew. Turned out to be a cracking sprinter.
