I still manage winning runs but a lot harder now for some reason. I vowed I wouldn't after Black Saturday but it looks the way forward for a 2-3 month trial anyways.

I criticise the AW but why should I not take advantage of it? If I do decide to give it a go there are always races on the AW with plenty on your side and although akin to backing odds on mostly I can't do much harm sticking to a few bets per week.

Some will say it's all relative but I think not when it comes to the AW and other races obviously.  I know the pitfalls of being on both sides of the fence and for me it would be similar when going through the cards. I know which races to avoid.

Any sensible thoughts welcome and yes, I am aware that either way it's a 100% book.

Bearing in mind I have an income and any money made on here is a welcome bonus

*And, as in backing you can always dutch. Two 3/1 jt Fav's in a handicap on the AW and you have your even money if both beat and not so sore if one wins. (As in backing)

ive tried laying more than backing ,its not as easy as it seems ,despite having so many runners on side ,its uncanny how often the lay wins ,again luck plays a role i suppose.

freddie, I told the forum about it a few weeks back. I was in a bad way and luckily someone loaned me a lot of money and I managed to repay after seven months but I was prepared to down size had things went pear shaped again. I'll bring the thread back up if you wish.

snowy, tell me about it.

If you read my opening post freddie it's not always been a bed of roses.

I'll decide next week. None of this paper trading malarkey.

One other good thing about laying is you can always have a dud jockey on your side. The Black Saturday I speak about I was laying horses ridden by Fallon and AP just to name two.

For those not familiar with the overround you can still get your even money laying a 2/1 and 5/1 in the same race.

You've been here for 20yrs and still need 2-3 months to see if something works or doesn't work.

I know exactly what an over-round is, but the above is confusing.

I have an automated, iron-clad, high-volume 18% ROI lay system at BSP. Today at 13:30 it chose these three horses

13:30    Ling    Smart Connection
13:30    Ling    Forge Valley Lad
13:30    Ling    Doonbeg Farmer

I hate laying multiple horses in one race, it feels wrong no matter what the numbers say. Laying is not for the faint-hearted.

I do like backing but sometimes I just get a lot of second places. Just now I had Rainbow Fire marked as a cert and he went from 200 IR to 1.21 and lost in the photo.

No offence Gaze but....gee, you think?

When I got blooterd that Saturday I gave it a week to think things over.

As previously stated I saw where I was going wrong and the money I borrowed was paid back within seven months. Christ, it's hardly a Harry Findlay story.

The only thing that can keep you from building your bank steadily is 'rush.'( taking into account you have a proven edge )

That's why it's best to have an automated system, the bot will lay 1000 poor value horses and you will always come out on top. But when you manually lay a 15/1 shot and watch it steam to 5.0 IR after a minute you already fear the worst. It's best not to watch.

ZEALOT, very true. Why have six bets in a day when 2 or 3 per week can suffice. That's why I'm thinking of going back to laying.

just take A+ lays ONLY , even if it means 1 a month !!!!!

One way of looking at it is - IF YOU ONLY HAD 10 LAYS ALL YEAR , WOULD YOU PLACE THIS BET ?

Slow and steady is the only way .
