must admit i thought he'd made a disticntly different call re first day, it was clearly quicker than claisse would have opened with, but this 2nd day isn't going to be sitting well with him

Such a shame, I suppose if he was in doubt about the forecast he should have only put a couple of mills on instead of the whole pond.
The Irish horses will feel at home 1,2,3 there.Such a shame, I suppose if he was in doubt about the forecast he should have only put a couple of mills on instead of the whole pond.
Would the ground have been dangerous today if they'd missed the rain? I doubt it.
Weather is set fair from tomorrow. Why couldn't they have left the decision until this evening?

Rapid check of form required but not wanting to waste money on bad ground. Clerk should be hung from the grandstand by his rollocks. I suppose he needs to get used to the idiotic and uncontrollable drainage system bequeathed to him by bottom of the Claisse. He’ll have a never ending battle with fast drainage and artificial irrigation.

Anyone else remember 1981? Meeting was nearly called off after a very wet winter. We get half an inch of rain and the ground is worse than when flat bred Sea Pigeon won the Champion Hurdle. Absolute joke.

The paddock showed that it would have been heavy without watering. Assuming he did not water the new course, anyone like to guess the going for tomorrow? I would go heavy for the first race but good to soft for the last. Unless he watered it of course.

After the first race, Pullin decided to keep the ground as soft while reiterating that the 8mm of rain which had fallen on Wednesday was beyond what the forecast had suggested.
He said: "We'll stay as we are at this stage but we'll see. This rain is probably due for another half hour to an hour and then it should blow through.
"We've had 8mm now and it was the top end of what we were expecting. Yesterday I got the implication that there was a 30 per cent risk of that quantity. We'll go over that now so it's more than we were expecting."

Yes it did obv rain a lot today at Cheltenham but watering was a MASSIVE mistake Imagine if you had trained a horse for the last 12 months praying for good ground and you see the forecast for this week then the clerk of the course waters no wonder someone like Nicholls was not happy
