I gave a quid to the Uncle-Captain-Sir-Lord-Tom fund last year but only because the minimum bet on here was 2 quid. Given what has come out recently I feel like I want it back, is this possible?
The poor **** would still be alive if he hadn't been dragged to the West Indies on a BA covid flight.
Only give to charities with a closer personal link, Macmillan, Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK, etc.
Helping some auld slapper buy a seven bedroom house doesn't quite meet my eligibility standards.

Small animal charities & local hospices with the occasional to big cancer charities. I refuse to subsidise large luxury offices & massive salaries of CEOs of charities along the lines of RSPCA, OXFAM & the like. Thanks to my previous careers & my current pastime I can afford small donations.

Cats Protection, I like moggies. I'm tempted to do a dog charity now after seeing a few of that Lily Savage bloke's TV shows. Has me in bits sometimes.

It a bit like racing tv. All profits returned to racing. They just happen to employ four pundits and presenters for a mundane six race card on a Monday.
The majority of big name charities spunk so much cash on unnecessary expenditure, hardly anything goes to the front line. Most charities are pseudo scams, you've got more chance with the local ones of the cash being put to the use that the person donating intends.

The Samaritans .....they brought a box of food around when we had literally no money nor food back in the 70s.....I have never forgotten and am glad I am now in a position to thank them financially so they can help others.

The charity is currently being investigated by the charities watchdog after concerns were raised over its accounts and governance. I think your pound possibly didn`t reach any worthy causes DG.

We give to charities, have done for many years, RSPB, about £17 a quarter, although I don't like the way they kill crows. Like Saddo we are cat lovers, sponsor 2 cats at £6 a month with Cats Protection and just set up raffle and their lottery standing orders for about £200 a year, also pay Wildfowl and Wetlands, another Sussex one as well and done a couple of sponsored walks for Cancer hospitals that have raised over a grand.Had a family member die very recently so donated to a heart charity.

How on earth you can donate to the RSPB and a cat charity is beyond me. It is like sending money to both the National Front and the Socialist worker party.

Last week I donated to the justgiving page for the wife of Hartlepools manager Graeme Lee. Jemma Lee needs 5K a month for treatment for a cancerous brain tumour.
Before the cup tie between my team Crystal Palace and Hartlepool the page was posted on various C.P.F.C. forums namely Facebook, Twitter etc. The £60 grand target was surpassed in a 24 hour period before the kick off and many Palace fans contributed to appeal as I did.
I do contribute as and when but not in any standing order way, just when a cause moves me.

Big Issue sellers and what I presume are homeless people living on the street (you can never be sure how genuine some of them are). I only give when I’m not asked too. Food banks or local drink/drugs centres each Xmas.
Between Xmas and New Year my missus read a heartbreaking post on Facebook by a woman living in our town. Saying how she wasn’t getting paid for another three weeks, had no food in the house for kids and didn’t know what she was going to do. My missus asked if we could buy her some food and drop it off to her. When we got her address, by coincidence she lived very close to us. She was a smack head who I’d seen around from time to time, and I’m sure she’s never had a job, or got any kids.

Chavman, re: salaries-exactly as I posted before & x moneyx re: direct debits, I'm in total agreement with you both. That's why it should be small local charities on the whole & no direct debits. Battersee Cats & Dogs home collectors standing outside a supermarket. I approach to try to donate a fiver. No sir- we're signing people up for direct debits. I said sorry no chance. They tried to convince me so off I went. They got nothing. It was against my general principle of donating to big charities but I thought that I'd do it that time. Their loss. Celia Hammond was a top model & her Animal Trust does fantastic work in London. Always in need of donations. S.Kenbo-a typical story. Those poor beggars with their dogs are well organised by gang masters. In Central London you can see them being dropped off in strategic places from white ford transit vans- all latest registration! Must be good money in it!

These charities have mid to high 100,000,000 turnover. The CEO pay is well below that of private sector CEOs. Just sounds like a convenient excuse from people who were never going to donate in the first place.

Many years ago when playing football I won the club's Christmas Hamper in a raffle.
Going home by some small old folks bungalows, just knocked on one of the doors and when the old lady came out, asked if she would like the hamper and left it with her.
Just on impulse and still glad I did it.

Well done barstool, it's good to know the right people get things. A couple of years ago on a dark winter night I got out of my car in sainsbury's and a bloke suddenly appeared begging for any change, I gruffly said I didn't have any and he said he was sorry to have troubled me, anyway he was still around when I came out, I guilty for being rude to him so gave him a few quid.
I couple of days later I was going in the local Co op and he appeared there as well, he must have been doing the rounds, like a mug I gave him some more money.
Around the same time I had another young homeless beggar approach me, he knew my name and I recognised him as a mechanic who used to work in a garage that was a customer of mine, he said he was sacked due to being p1ssed most of the time, but he had given up drink now. I gave him £20 and phoned a garage who I knew was looking for a mechanic and vouched for him. When I saw the bloke who owned the garage a few weeks later, he said the lad was useless and kept turning up late so he had to sack him. Sometimes you can't help people it's like they have a self destruct switch in them that gets turned on.

I heard a programme on the BBC about charities decades ago. And they way very little of the money they collect gets to their target cause.
I've never given a penny since.
