slicer knows the score ,we are all guessing and relying on luck i openly admit on my threads "a lot of luck and guesswork needed " pre race betting one way or another ....we are guessing that today is the day , the jock wont fook up., the horse gets luck in running other jocks wont fook up etc ,the key is to get the pricing right ,better to guess at big odds than short odds obvs some knowledge is needed but luck plays a huge part . so much can go wrong as we have seen on a daily basis

When I was a nipper one of my uncles became very rich in the car sales game. He was obnoxious to everybody , his favourite saying 'I can buy and sell you' . His money and marriage fell apart , sad to see as was a relative .....there was nobody rallying around as he hit the bottom.

626 is wise enough to know that you WILL NOT WIN LONG TERM BACKING SHORT PRICES PRE RACE ........FACT! how many can not see further than the fav or 2nd fav ? plenty ! was at the counter in a bookies years back and the punter in front of me was putting his bet on and asking for prices in a multi when the cashier said h the price of his horse was 16/1 the clown said no scrub that it cant win at that price give the bet here and he put the fav in , i remembered the bet he did and in the afternoon he had 3 winners going onto the fav ......who won it of course the 16/1 shot got backed down to 8/1 and pished up!

for rico ^
Think he was around 200pts ahead to level stakes over a long period of time and 100s/1000s of bets. Add that to yesterdays 285k win and yes, I think shrewd is a fair description

but it dont matter winning and it will be a lucky year or so how have you done over last 39 losing and he's a mug punter that got lucky yesterday - even though virtually everyone on the forum knows that's not the case

Some of these posts remind me of the famous Kerry Packer story - there are lots of different versions but in essence legend has it that:
Packer had allegedly won 20 consecutive hands of Baccarat at a Vegas Casino - feeling that Packer was getting too much attention and that he himself was worthy of more attention, a rude, brash Texan oilman at the table announced that he himself was worth $100m.
Packer responded by offering to flip him for it.

Nah, you're a victim of the favorite-longshot bias. You could have backed ALL 5000+ recent favs at BSP and made a profit. With any decent system, you could have been winning at 15% ROI. Someone said 626 made 200 pts profit after thousands of bets, so

Someone said 626 made 200 pts profit after thousands of bets, so let's say that's 10% ROI with insane losing runs. So punter A bets 50 quid per fav at 15% roi = 7.5 quid profit per pick. Punter B bets 15 quid at 10% roi = 1.5 quid profit per pick. Even at equal ROI, the fav backer makes much more money due to higher stakes and shorter losing runs.

It's simple maffs, the top 3 in the market win 80% of the races, favs around 35%, well-selected favs 35-60% depending on the odds. Even something as simple as hitting 40% at average odds of 2.8 is enough for steady profits.

I'm not 58 nor a father of two and do not acknowledge the bureaucratic folly of Greater Manchester, I was born a Lancastrian.

closest I came to this was scoring £100 ish on Exch Multis (before they had an EW option) with a 3-winner longshot Yankee where the 70ish BSP shot came second by a SH!

Just read all the tread- again bloody amazing win and I salute you again, well played 626. You went from a no hoper who knows nothing to staking £96 and having too much money and don't know what to do with it to a long term loser Hats off sir, it's why we all do this game.

VWD, 626. Magical! Good to see a fellow Lancastrian do so well. I’ve been doing something similar in the way of trying to get long priced winners. Mostly with no success (apart from Freewheeling Dylan @350 he says aftertiming). A question... if you don’t mind ... do you find it’s the run of the mill midweek races rather than Saturday fayre that are more fruitful?

A 58-year-old punter from Greater Manchester who took William Hill for a mammoth £281,000 from just a £7 stake at Southwell on Tuesday could be set to own a racehorse of his own following his big win.
The customer had placed a series of 10p multiple bets totalling £7 on seven horses running at the Midlands track and, despite having three losers, went on to land a massive payout due to the lengthy odds of his four winners.
The 13-year-old Tiquer got the ball rolling with a 25-1 triumph before Schiaparannie followed up in the next at 8-1, a shrewd pick given the Jane Makin-trained nine-year-old went off at 11-4.
12.25: Tiquer 25-1 WON 12.55: Schiaparannie 8-1 WON 1.25: Silver Star 100-1 lost 1.55: Stunsail 25-1 lost 2.30: Alchemystique 150-1 WON 3.00: Radetzky March 25-1 lost 3.30: Irish Sovereign 66-1 WON
The punter may have thought his luck was running out when Silver Star (100-1) and Stunsail (25-1) were beaten in the next two, only for Alchemystique to stun at odds of 150-1 (SP 125-1) in the 2m maiden hurdle.
Radetzky March finished last in the next but the afternoon ended on a scarcely believable high when Irish Sovereign – who had been beaten a combined 237 lengths in his five previous starts – swept to victory under Nick Scholfield in the last at odds of 66-1 (SP 50-1).
A father of two, the punter said: "I had no idea they would be such big odds! I scanned through the racecards, picked out a few fancies and placed some fun multiples for the day."
Having pocketed a healthy £281,246.23p, the punter now plans to venture into racehorse ownership, but not before a well-deserved dream holiday with his wife.
He added: "I've always said that if I were to win big then I'd like to invest in a proper racehorse, so now's my chance. I'd like a nice jumps horse, maybe in training with Donald McCain as he's quite local, and the next dream would be to win the Grand National.
"My wife and I are also hoping to go to New Zealand and spend some time touring the country, a trip we've always spoken about doing."
Despite losing a hefty sum, William Hill were pleased for the lucky customer and his family.
Spokesman Rupert Adams said: "It's remarkable that he's not managed to pick just one or two big odds winners, but four, including a 150-1 shot and a 66-1 shot.
"He said he didn't pay much attention to the prices when placing the bet, which is probably a good thing as he might have been put off!
"We're delighted for him and the family. It sounds as though they'll enjoy the money with a dream holiday to New Zealand, and maybe a racehorse of their own."

Same here sixtwosix. What a win for peanuts. At a guess, one more winner and you would have well overtaken the £1,000,000 limit.
Sadly there are still the jealous one's who detest a winner and he's running out of friends rapidly...
Enjoy your winnings and have a great Xmas.
