If it had been a ten rounder would Wilder have won? Fury saved by the bell in one of the times he was decked apparently?

wilder was done after the 7nth...took a lot of heavy hits and he was pretty much immobile ....carrying too much bulk took its toll on his stamina
Report chavman October 10, 2021 5:00 PM BST
body builders dont make good fighters
Report stewarty b October 10, 2021 5:03 PM BST
But Fury was saved by the bell?
Report thurnscoe thunder October 10, 2021 5:09 PM BST
Not for me, wasnt even close.
Unsure of the scorecards at the time but arguably
1st Wilder 10-9
2nd Fury 10-9
3rd Fury 10-8
4th Wilder 10-7
5th Fury 10-9
6th Fury 10-9
7th Fury 10-9
8th Fury 10-9
9th Fury 10-9
10th Fury 10-9

Fury 96
Wilder 91

Wilder can bang, but he just played to Tysons strengths, even before the fight took place.
He looked in magnificent shape but was heavier than normal, so hed bulked a bit to counter Furys bulk and strength for me so he wouldnt be pushed around easy, which when it got scruffy he did anyway, obviously more power while it lasted i suppose but he totally gassed very quickly and in the last 5 rounds he didnt have the power and he was hardly even shuffling ive seen lame elephants move better.
Tyson was playing with him in the end.

Lots of heart and guts but no where near to have all the tools to be the size and condition needed to last a 12 rounder one the power went.

As for the knockdowns that 1st one shook him no doubt but he didnt go until sort of leaned on and the second i think again was a punch to the back of the head and a bit of a follow through pull over once rocked. I also think he took all the time allowed and was in control of the count obviously thats my opinion
Report thurnscoe thunder October 10, 2021 5:12 PM BST
Arguably you could have given Wilder one more of the middle rounds but it would have been a stretch to think more than that tbh
Report sixtwosix October 10, 2021 5:13 PM BST
I recall when Mr Fury took on Mr Klitschko .... I seem to recall all the so called experts paid by the media suggesting he was 'out of his depth' ...... clowns.

He has taken on and out boxed and out hit everybody.....and to think many thought AJ was would beat him.
Report stewarty b October 10, 2021 5:15 PM BST
Many thanks for that info tt.

I may do Foyles but one thing I can say for certain is this. Had he been fighting Ali, Floyd Patterson, Joe Louis or Tyson he would have been hospitalised.
Report thelatarps October 10, 2021 5:22 PM BST
2 judges had tyson  95-91 up after the ten rounds, one had him up on 94-92

wilder threw the dice, decked his opponent twice, his gameplan almost worked. I doubt anyone else could have got that close to Fury. Brave effort imo.
Report G Hall October 10, 2021 6:14 PM BST
If Mr Hearn thought for one moment in the last three years, that AJ could beat Tyson then the fight would have taken place, truth is he knows it will never happen, just trying to get as much  cash from the AJ charade.
Report chavman October 10, 2021 6:22 PM BST
fury after saying he was number 1 in the world and wilder no 2 100% correct
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 6:39 PM BST
Yet to be knocked down twice by a 36 year old hardly puts him among the better heavyweight champions we have known.
Report chavman October 10, 2021 6:44 PM BST
was tyson fighting a poor generation?...bowe,holyfield werent exactly top notch, lewis either for that matter, klitchsko wasnt ....name one youve seen

Report stewarty b October 10, 2021 6:54 PM BST
Fury wouldn't even have had to bottle to go into the ring with Frazier. 2 rounds maximum.
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 6:57 PM BST
Lewis, Tyson, Marciano, Holyfield would all have beaten him let alone Frazier, Ali and Foreman.
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 6:59 PM BST
The 1970s heavyweight division was by far the best of my lifetime and possibly of all time.
Report stewarty b October 10, 2021 7:01 PM BST
Some say Joe Louis was the best ever sparrow. A left hook from him would have killed me.
Report G Hall October 10, 2021 7:03 PM BST
Would Frazier or Mike Tyson have been too small to beat Tyson?
Report G Hall October 10, 2021 7:03 PM BST
* Tyson Furey
Report chavman October 10, 2021 7:11 PM BST
fury is unbeaten though ...32.31.1....and we all know he won the draw....you can only beat what they put in front of you
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 7:11 PM BST
Many people did say that about Louis stewarty.
G Hall...Jack Dempsey took apart Jess Willard to take the championship off him and he was a midget at the side of Willard.
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 7:13 PM BST
I would agree chavman but Marciano retired unbeaten afted 49 fights none of which went the distance

Fury is a very underrated fighter.
Perhaps 'cos people don't take to him.
Some of the old heavyweights would have
been a good bit smaller than him aswell.
It's the every thing was better in the old days syndrome again.
Report chavman October 10, 2021 7:16 PM BST
joe calzaghe went unbeaten but hardly goes into the pantheon of great fighters
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 7:23 PM BST
Joe Calzaghe was the best pound of pound British fighter in my view I have seen, just ahead of Lennox Lewis.

The trouble is penzance that some people always think their generation is the best but I just cannot rate Fury anywhere near those that have been mentioned.

Things have changed in heavyweight boxing, the big guys in the U.S from the black community now mostly go into American football & basketball which wasnt really available to them in a big way untill Late 60s/70s

With regard to size take a look at this video of the Dempsey v Willard title fight.

Marciano would've been nearly a foot
shorter than Fury and weighed about 14st.
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 7:37 PM BST
Alhough never beaten I would not put Marciano among the top 4 or 5 I have seen but others might well disagree. One thing for sure Fury would need his weight advantage because Marciano was a battering ram against a fighters body.
Report tobermory October 10, 2021 7:47 PM BST
No, Wilder could not have won after ten rounds.

The fight was easy to score as the rounds were clear, and pretty much everyone had Fury 5pts up after 10 rounds.

You can argue Fury was saved by the bell in the 4th, but Wilder was saved by the bell in at least 5 different rounds.

Mayweather is unbeaten but hardly a great fighter ..technically superb but hardly a great fighter

Now those middleweights in the 90s…benn,Collins Eubanks….and then Duran ,hagler, hearns in the 80s…all these guys could fight not pose around the ring
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 8:25 PM BST
Yes chavman that was the best era of middleweights 80s and 90s although once again many would put forward Sugar Ray Robinson as the best but I would not be one of them. You missed out Leonard by the way.
Report G Hall October 10, 2021 8:37 PM BST
Sugar Ray Leonard was my favourite how would you rate him sparrow
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 8:49 PM BST
Well Leonard has to be up there as in the best along with Hagler, Ray Robinson, Roy Jones. La Motta, Hearns and Hopkins. For me Hagler and Robinson were the best but its a hard one to pick.
Report sparrow October 10, 2021 8:52 PM BST
Speaking of favourites mine was Alexis Arguello who was World Champion at 3 different weights in the early 80s.
Report chavman October 10, 2021 8:58 PM BST
Leonard was a top notch boxer…could he have it to to toe though?..de la Hoya the same…

I did like Roy Jones jr though…real fluid and fast hands,he could throw a combination
Report chavman October 10, 2021 9:01 PM BST
And Leonard fought hagler when hagler was way past his best
Report G Hall October 10, 2021 9:04 PM BST
So many brilliant fighters, if Roy Jones junior retired unbeaten, as he could/should have, I'm sure he would have been regarded even more highly.
Report sageform October 10, 2021 9:04 PM BST
Only seen a few photos but Fury looked like he has never trained in his life. Several spare tyres round his waist but he still wins.
Report chavman October 10, 2021 9:10 PM BST
Think he trained to the optimum for the 2nd to outbox him, came into this fight over his best fighting weight for power to put the thing to bed once and for all

Which he did
Report tobermory October 10, 2021 9:12 PM BST
Hayler was past his prime in 1987 by about 2 or 3 years.

Leonard was a good 5years past his own prime though.

Greatest fighter ive ever seen live was Tommy "Hitman" Hearns.
The 3 rounds with Hagler probably the best 3 ever consecutive rounds in boxing.

Tommy won World Titles @ FIVE different weights.

yet you praise Marciano who was knocked down by 38 year old Archie Moore and 38 year old Walcott yet criticise Fury for being knocked down by 36 year old Wilder- hilarious stuff, probably best to know your boxing history. BTW 36 isn't old for heavyweight boxing
